The claim for the article is that there is nothing special about energy drinks. The author of Energy Drinks Promise Edge, But Experts Say Proof is Scant supports the claim in many ways by stating various facts about the research done by experts on energy drinks. Such as the energy drink industry being in scrutiny by the Food and Drug Administration after various reports of serious injuries or even death that could very well be linked to the amount of caffeine in the drinks.
The research that has been done on energy drinks always ends up leading to the conclusion that there are no real benefits besides a short burst of energy. Energy drinks tend to be very hyped up, like “Red Bull gives you wings,” and Rockstar is “scientifically formulated”

...things to maintain a balanced equilibrium, homeostasis. Within this unit, we covered cell parts, cell transport, effect of energy drinks on cells, how the excretory system uses cell transport, and positive and negative feedback to keep the body at homeostasis. These concepts are covered in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) High School Life Science (HS-LS) 1-1 A: Systems of specialized cells within organisms help them perform the essential functions of life and multicellular organisms have a hierarchal structural organization, in which any one system is made up of numerous parts and is itself a component of the next level. This is also covered in HS-LS 1-3.A: Feedback mechanisms maintain a living system’s internal conditions within certain limits and mediate behaviors, allowing it to remain alive and function even as externa conditions change within some range. Feedback mechanisms can encourage (through positive feedback) or discourage (negative feedback) what is on inside the living system. There are several learning targets for students in this unit: 1-identify and describe the functions of each organelle, 2-identify and describe the functions of the cell membrane, 3- describe how substances move across the cell membrane, 4: explain how the kidney uses cell transport 5- to plan and conduct an investigation to provide evidence of how energy drinks affect the fluid balance within cells, and 6- to describe positive and negative feedback mechanisms for maintaining homeostasis...

...artistic appeals as means of an effective persuasion. The argument surrounds a careful and logical analysis of past failures and successes backed up with statistical and visual references designed to “inform, provoke, challenge and inspire” the audience (Kent 2009), followed by an orderly presentation of numerous strategies on how they will shape the future as the leading “business of non-alcoholic ready-to-drink beverages.” (119) The appropriate artistic and inartistic appeals applied in the speech not only polish the essence of an effective argument, but also increases credibility as an influential speaker. It is evident that Kent tries to avoid using pathos, an appeal of emotion, as a form of appeal to prevent logical scrutiny from the audience. Instead, the speech follows a strict pattern of stating logical reasoning after presenting each inartistic proof and thus, succeeds in gaining compliance as a credible speaker. Apart from impressive statistical numbers on its company’s accomplishments, the content of the speech relies heavily on ethos, served as appeals to values and speaker’s credibility, exerting a strong and dependable impression on their corporation. One of the major proofs Kent constantly uses is expressing the common notion the company has made in the past years. For example, Kent reminds the audience that they are a system that have always been, and always will be a “business of non-alcoholic ready-to-drink beverages…where we lead, excel and create value.” (119)...

Strategic Management Coca Cola

...Coca Cola global business and marketing strategy. Given guidance in terms of opportunities or threats they may pose for the company in the future. Lo; illustrate how marketing decisions are affected by various forces in the external business environment “WATER is to Coca-Cola as clean energy is to BP.” So declares Jeff Seabright, Coca-Cola's manager of environmental affairs, when asked about the firm's new global water strategy. The fizzy-drinks maker unveiled that strategy as part of its annual environmental report, released this week. “We need to manage this issue or it will manage us,” says Mr Seabright. At first sight, the analogy with oil may seem odd, but it is not so far-fetched. Big Oil has long been the target of activists clamouring for action on global warming. BP stole a march on its oily brethren by accepting that climate change is a real problem, making smallish investments in clean energy, and grandly proclaiming itself “beyond petroleum”. Coca-Cola has also been targeted by activists, but over the issue of water rather than energy. The firm has been hit hardest in India. First, experts from Delhi's Centre for Science and Environment, a green think-tank, tested various soft drinks and determined that they contained high levels of pesticide. It turned out that Coca-Cola was not the cause of the problem. But its inept handling of the accusations left the firm exposed to a much more damaging allegation: that it is aggravating the growing global problem of fresh-water...

Abstract In the field of business ethics, there has been much written and discussed about ethical matters in areas where there is a distinct right and wrong, but relatively little written about how to make decisions when the ethical issue isn’t as black and white. When marketing a product, it is one’s hope that ethical issues are typically not inherent to the marketer; however, when one has the unenviable task of marketing a controversial product, it becomes a true question of “grayarea” ethics that makes marketing decisions more difficult to make. Companies depend on marketing...

...Analysis of an argument 1. The following appeared as part of an annual report sent to stockholders by Olympic Foods, a processor of frozen foods. “Over time, the costs of processing go down because as organizations learn how to do things better, they become more efficient. In color film processing, for example, the cost of a 3-by-5-inch print fell from 50 cents for five-day service in 1970 to 20 cents for one-day service in 1984. The same principle applies to the processing of food. And since Olympic Foods will soon celebrate its twenty-fifth birthday, we can expect that our long experience will enable us to minimize costs and thus maximize profits.” Discuss how well reasoned you find this argument. In your discussion be sure to analyze the line of reasoning and the use of evidence in the argument. For example, you may need to consider what questionable assumptions underlie the thinking and what alternative explanations or counterexamples might weaken the conclusion. You can also discuss what sort of evidence would strengthen or refute the argument, what changes in the argument would make it more logically sound, and what, if anything, would help you better evaluate its conclusion. Citing facts drawn from the color-film processing industry that indicate a downward trend in the costs of film processing over a 24-year period, the author argues that Olympic Foods will likewise be able to minimize costs and thus maximize profits in the future. In support of this conclusion...

...Mark SMith 9/24/13 Eng 226 (MM1) bill paxton Rhetorical Analysis Is It In You? In 1965, on a hot summer day at the University of Florida, researchers developed a new sports drink to help replenish player’s bodily fluids that they sweat out during athletic competitions. The new drink was named Gatorade, giving reference to the schools’ mascot, the Florida Gators. The drink contained water, electrolytes and a carbohydrate that helps boost players bodily fluids back to normal. Gatorade is now the most popular sports drink on the market and can be found for sale at almost any convenience store. One way Gatorade became so popular is their advertisements. Gatorade works to persuade their customers in their ads by making the consumer believe in themselves, by showing how drinking Gatorade is the best decision and by using professional athletes to promote their products. The specific Gatorade ad I am breaking down makes the consumer want to drink Gatorade before, during and after sports events and shows how Gatorade gives you everything you need in a sport drink. Gatorade has been replenishing and refueling athletes for some time now. In 2010 Gatorade introduced their new G Series line of Gatorade, which has three different segments of Gatorade: The Prime 01, the Perform 02 and the Recover 03. I will be discussing the G Series in specific. The ad shows athletes from different sports, drinking the segments of the G Series at the appropriate times. Underneath each of the athletes...

Is It Possible for the Old to Resist Cola

...resist Pepsi cola? CONTENT Introduction 3 Definition 4 The study 5 Discussions and analysis 6 Suggestions 9 Conclusion 10 Introduction Since Pepsi Company was founded in 1902, managers in this company have always endeavored to improve Pepsi cola to make it adapt to the changing market and then to seize the market further. They occasionally distribute questionnaires and make surveys to know about consumers’ psychology as managers attempt to change the production method and find appropriate advertising ways to satisfy consumers’ needs (Bowles Jr et al, 1984).
