Essay 1
Game Day that was No Game Day
I remember it like it was yesterday. I had moved to College Station to attend Texas A&M and to find my freedom. On a hot, humid game day I was ready to sprout my wings and fly like a college student, or so I thought. From the time I was accepted into Texas A&M until this defining moment, I thought college was all about partying and drinking on game day and that everyone did this, no matter what your age. I found out rather quickly that this bad assumption on my part would lead me to learn a hard and valuable lesson about life and consequences.
It started out pretty innocently. It was a night game so we had plenty of time to pre-party. My friends and I had decided to pre-party before the big football game. We had the golden ticket, my roommates were 21. They bought the alcohol and we helped consume it. What started as a typical Saturday ended on a sour note. After drinking in our apartment and getting hyped for the big game, we decided to head out to Northgate and carry-on with our revelry. Northgate is known as the party area of College Station and usually there is lots going on. This day was no different. Our first stop was the Chicken. After hooting and hollering with other A & M fans we moved on to the other hot spots for more partying. After our Northgate shenanigans we decided to head back to our apartment to cool off. This is when our great plan went astray. We all knew that the police in College Station have a reputation for paying too close attention to college students and making sure that there is not underage drinking going on. But hey, this was game day.
On our way back to the apartment, we were clearly too loud and too obvious and were stopped by College Station’s finest. They asked us if we had been drinking and we thought honesty was the best policy, as Mom always told us, we replied yes. They asked for our ids and clearly some of us were underage.
What happened next was not fun. I was asked along with my other underage buddies to have a seat in the police car. It got worse when they started driving, clearly we were headed to jail! My buddies and I could not believe how this day had turned out.
I think the trip to the jail was more for affect because when we got there, we all received MIC (minor in consumption) tickets and were allowed to leave. This was the ultimate rude ending to our big game-day festivities.
I am not sure what was worse, getting the ticket or having to tell my parents about getting the ticket. This ticket became the end of my time at College Station. Looking back I realize how much those beers really cost me that day.

The event is held every July in an area of Maine known as the mid-coast, which Wallace describes as, “…from Owl’s Head and Thomaston in the south, to Belfast in the north” (Wallace.2004).
