Ernest McSorley the captain of the Edmund Fitzgerald, had nothing to do with the sinking of his ship he did what was in his control and could not beat the weather on a bad night. He was a good honest hard working man that lived a rough life on the lakes moving from ship to ship and being away from home most of his life. He was 63 years old when he died along with the 28 other crew members on board. Growing up in Canada and later moving a small river town in New York he was very familiar with the Great Lakes.
