...Stedman 1 ! Jack Stedman February 15, 2015 Ms. Rindler Exploratory Essay Should we be worried about abrupt climate change and the resulting effects? Climate change is an issue that has been the talk of the last decade. It is an issue of great concern, and in my opinion there should be more news coverage and awareness of what is happening on our planet. In a study done by the China Center for Climate Change Communication (jointly established by the Research Center for Journalism and Social Development of Renmin University and Oxfam Hong Kong) where they called and surveyed 4,000 Chinese adults they reported that "93 percent of respondents say they know at least a little about climate change. 11 percent say they know a lot, 54 percent know something, and 28 percent know just a little about it. 7 percent have never heard of climate change"(Kim 319). Personally, I find this to be abysmal. I feel it should be educated in every school. In this essay, however, we will explore whether we have to be worried as to what is going to happen to our home planet, Earth. In the article, Storm Warnings: Extreme Weather Is a Product of Climate Change, from Scientific American, the author, John Carey, explores the effects that climate change has had on our weather. John Carey is a freelance science writer and editor. He was the senior correspondent for Business Week magazine for 20 years. This article is the first part of a three-part series, and Carey goes on to explain that in the past few years...

...Climate change is a modern fact of science that can not be denied. It is slowly shifting and changing the environment around us and we are not merely innocent bystanders to the whole affair. California’s as well the world’s dependence upon fossil fuels, largely oil and natural gas has only contributed to the increase in carbon in the atmosphere hastening climate change and its effects. It is with this knowledge that therefore California must look towards means of alleviating its contributions to climate change as well as fighting it. The state of California along with the entire United States of America, must shift from the dependence on fossil fuel and non-renewable energy to renewable energy sources by the year 2050 to deal with the...

...According to the CSIRO and Garnaut Climate Change result, climate alteration is expected to have numerous effect on many species, regions, activities and much base and areas of the saving and public wellness in Commonwealth of Australia. The Stern Report and Garnaut Review on balance expect these to outweigh the cost of mitigation. Sustained climate change could have drastic effects on the ecosystem of Australia. For example, rising sea temperatures and continual eroding of the coasts from higher water levels will cause further bleaching of the Great Barrier Reef. Beyond that, Australia’s climate will become even harsher, with more powerful tropical cyclones and longer droughts. The impacts of climate change will vary significantly across Australia. Not only that but the Australian Government released a detailed report on the impacts of climate change on coastal field of Australia, finding that up to 247,600 houses are at risk from flooding from a sea-level advance of 1.1 meters. There were 39,000 building located within 110 meters of 'soft' erodible shoreline, at risk from accelerated erosion due to sea -level...

...discussion on the issues of wars in the middle east, tensions in the 38th parallel, new viruses infecting people at different corners of the world, the iPhone and the Facebook. Of all the issues that have taken center stage of debate worldwide in recent decades, one issue, ‘Global Climate Change’, stands apart from all the rest; the reason being the sheer magnitude of the consequences it can have. There is no greater substantial threat to the earth that we know today, than the climate change. Though there is some debate on the theory of global climate change being driven by our civilization, there are enough evidences that prove it’s not only too late to question its reality but it might already be too late to reverse...

...Climate change has only been a major issue for a few decades, but has quickly become one of the most important problems facing the world today. Many solutions have been proposed including renewable energy usage and decreasing carbon emissions. The latest solutions are pushing the boundaries of modern science to the extreme to come up with a way to remove the CO2 that has already been emitted as we approach a “point of no return.” Scientist around the world are rushing to come up with a way to take CO2 out of the atmosphere and turn it into a useful fuel. The most recent development involves using sunlight to create electricity to split CO2 into CO and O2 and H2O into H2 and O2. Most of the leftover energy is then used to heat the CO2 and...

...Climate Change: Debate Unit Research Design Journal Marco Palomares [Working Families] Mr. Delcambre Professional Communications 1B April 20th, 2017 Introduction Since the 1760s, fossil fuel has become the primary source of energy. We used fossil fuels for over two hundred years. Today, fossil fuel such as oil, powers most of our modes of transportation. Then coal and natural gas powers our electricity. Over the two hundred years we used fossil fuels, it has developed a problem that only got bigger over time. A problem that we face not only as a nation but as the human race. The problem is climate change. Climate change is caused by natural or non-natural greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere. Modern human activities have increased the release of non-naturally occurring greenhouse gases because we have boost our demand of burning more fossil fuel. The following design cycle explains my point of view [Working families] on climate change. Criterion A Need for...

...Scientist around the world have joined forces to explain and discuss in numerous ways, on how climate change has been affecting our very own planet for the past few decades. There have been, and maybe always will be, people who just will not listen and turn a blind eye when given irrefutable facts on the situation; arguing that the other side of the argument is completely wrong. Why is that though? Are we, as human beings, to deep within our own selfish motives to even think about the environment around us and the destructive forces that we are capable of? Although there are many organizations around the world such as the United Nations Environment Programme, Carbon Disclosure Project, and the Environmental Defense Fund, we should continue...

...this contoctic effects changing drastic effects in the mathematicaldistribution of patterns over time of ranging from years to years. The historical backgroung of the scientific invention of climate and climate change began in start of 19th century when ice ages and other natural changes in paleoclimate were first suspected and the natural greenhouse effect first identified. (Neumann, 1985). In second half of 19th century, scientists first argued that human emissions of greenhouse gases could change the climate. Many other theories of climate change were advanced, involving forces from volcanism to solar variation. A brief History on the negotiations for climate change are discussed below. 1960 - Human population reaches three billion. (Chamberlin, 1899) it’s a minute...

It creates massive problems for countries around the world every year. But do you know what Global Warming is? Climate change is considered a global problem, because when the temperature increases, the ice will melt. This cause floods in countries along the coastline, therefore threatening lives of millions of people. Because of the gradually melting ice up the...

...A full-fledged climate war is brewing on the horizons of human civilization; one that pays no regards to political borders neither to the conceited significance humans place on wealth and power. To the world's dismay, there will be no negotiations and no avoidance of its consequences. Guided by the means of industrial revolution, humans are extruding a catastrophic level of fossil fuel born greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, enough to instigate dramatic disruptions in meteorological and climate patterns. However, the situation is exceptionally far greater in complication. This global epidemic has saturated the Earth with geological disasters, whether it be the scorching wildfires of Northern California or the wrath of Hurricane Irma, climate change has strong, even direct ties to these devastations. Additionally, climate change...

According to Regan Patrick’s The Politics of Global Climate Change, the rate of Republican concern for global warming is hardly increasing, no matter what age they are. ...The Global Climate Risk Index 2014 analyses indicate that less developed countries generally face the reality of climate variability more than industrialised countries (Kreft & Eckstein, 2013). According to Population Action International(PAI, (2013), countries currently experiencing high rates of population growth having either high projected declines in agricultural production, low resilience to climate change, or both face widespread poverty, low levels of education, limited access to health services, food and water insecurity and gender inequality. The Philippines with a -1.7% projected change in agricultural production, 1.7% population growth rate, and 22% unmet need for family planning is considered a “hotspot" of population and climate change (PAI). The increasing population and poverty have put additional pressures on resources (DENR, 2001). According to Kreft & Eckstein, in 2012, the Philippines along with Haiti suffered the most from extreme weather events pointing to the country’s vulnerability to climate change phenomenon as it works towards achieving economic growth and alleviating poverty (2013). In the VIP marine key biodiversity areas, the rising sea level and surface temperature, pronounced storminess and unpredictable rainfall patterns are disrupting...

...Anthropomorphic Climate Change is highly exaggerated, and the effects that we have on weather patterns, is negligible. The carbon-dioxide concentration in Earth's atmosphere, has a concentration of 400 parts-per-million. Carbon Dioxide, in minute numbers, cannot trap much heat at all. Climate change does occur, but naturalistically, and over the course of thousands, if not millions, of years. 50,000 years ago, ice measuring around one mile high covered most of the Northern Hemisphere, before most of it had melted. Roughly 1,000 years ago, there was a major warming period, to where the climate was warm enough that there are records of vineyards growing in England. A few hundred years later, would be known as the Little Ice Age, as temperatures were cooler than they were today. I would also argue...

...What is climate change? Climate change, or global warming, is the gradual increase of the temperature of the earth. Climate change has been a topic that has been talked about for awhile now. If it is happening, if it is not, if humans cause it, and if it is happening naturally. Humans could be causing it by the many things we do, but the earth could be going through natural cycles which is causing climate change. There is evidence to support all of these arguments. Even scientists are having arguments about whether it is occuring or not. It’s weird to think that so many people, like scientists, disagree on one thing. Some people think that climate change is caused by humans. Some ways humans can cause climate change is by deforestation, burning fossil fuel, driving cars, even breathing. Of course breathing isn’t the biggest contributors to climate change but it contributes some. And then some people think that climate change is happening naturally. Things that would cause this would be volcanoes, and some of the natural cycles that the earth goes through could cause climate change. Then, there are people who think that climate change is not happening. I am going to tell you everything that you should know about climate change. There is a lot of evidence that shows climate change is happening yet some people still believe that it is not happening....
