...Design options Option 1: Design option 1 was to build a generator powered by a closed system steam engine which is power by wood that is abundant in the area. This design is easy to build since the only two major components would be the engine and turbine which we chose to be basic and easy to use. Other than those are just piping and a container for the water. The steam engine will be accessible to specific members in the village which will be trained for minor maintenance in case of a fault. More than one steam engine would be built to fulfill the electrical usage of the village or at least the minimum requirement that is needed. The engine will produce power to houses for daily use such as lighting cooking and probably heating. The downside of this option is the amount of resources needed to produce energy to convert the water into steam, of course once it starts not a lot of energy would be lost, rather some of the energy will be used to maintain the heating of the water thus reducing the amount of wood needed to keep it running. ...Recommendation Throughout the entire case study Paus failed to recognize the need for cultural adaptation, training and awareness and the importance of utilizing local resources to assist with cultural issues. Due to the two different cultures and generations now there is a clash between the old vision and new vision of doing business in China. Olsen and Li stand for the old and traditional way of doing business in China regarding to the Chinese values. In their view Eurochem Shanghai should carry on with the old system because relationships are overriding and values still remain strong, otherwise they will lose even more customers. On the other hand Paus is going the young and innovative way arguing that China will change one day and they have to adapt the marketing system to the new market conditions. So, is Paus right or wrong? In order to find an agreement and not to suffer, but to benefit from the diversity and different approaches of leadership, a meeting of all participants is needed at the end of the case. All persons involved should negotiate about different possibilities in order to create better situation. First of all, there have to be taken several steps in order to prepare the negotiation process. The foundation of sustainable agriculture is soil fertility , a term that encompasses the soil’s nutrient content, the amount of soil organic matter, the soil structure, its PH balance and the presence of microorganisms(IFA,2012). Most soils lack at least some plant nutrients , and growing crops remove nutrients from the soil. Soil nutrients must be replenished when removed and supplied when deficient. It takes years and sometimes decades for natural processes to restore nutrients in the soil, which means that they no longer suffice to support global agricultural production. Traditional methods for restoring soil fertility, which entail long fallow periods and shifting agriculture into new areas, may contribute to deforestation, given current pressures on land use. Although historically sustainable, these practices no longer suffice to meet the needs of the current and future population levels and density. Organic sources of nutrients provide fewer nutrients than most people think, but they are usually excellent for improving other aspects of soil fertility.
