...Theory Primary vs Secondary Market The primary market is direct from the company issuing the stock or bond to the buyer. The secondary market is after the initial public offering, people buy and sell on the stock exchange, NASDAQ or over the counter market or the pink sheets. For example, IBM issues some new stock. Someone buys it (usually an underwriter, but maybe the public). Assuming IBM sells direct to the public and I buy it for $50 and it goes up to $ 60 and you want to buy it and I want to sell it. So I sell through a broker and you buy through a broker which represents a sale in the secondary market. The word "market" can have many different meanings, but it is used most often as a catch-all term to denote both the primary market and the secondary market. In fact, "primary market" and "secondary market" are both distinct terms; the primary market refers to the market where securities are created, while the secondary market is one in which they are traded among investors. Knowing the functions of the primary and secondary markets is key to understanding how stocks trade. Without them, the stock market would be much harder to navigate and much less profitable. We'll help you understand how these markets work and how they relate to individual investors. Primary Market The primary market is where securities are created. It's in this market that firms sell (float) new stocks and bonds to the public for the first time. For our purposes, you can think of the primary market...

...UNIT 10: Marketing Research ● Give two examples of appropriate primary research methods Primary research is research collected directly from the research subject/area, by the researcher. It usually involves the researcher going into the market place (field) to find the information they are looking for. If the researcher does not go into the field they may send or place something into the field to record information for them. Examples: Primary Data Collection Methods Primary data collection methods include observations, interviews and trials. The appropriate method of research will depend on the aim of the research and the time, money and resources available to the researcher. Each research method has its limitations and margin of error; research analysis will need to take these into account. Observations Trained observers or cameras will record how people behave in a certain situation e.g. how consumer respond to an organisation's customer service Interviews Face to face interviews will take place between an interviewer and the respondent in their home, a location chosen by the interviewer or a public place such as a shopping centre. The interviewer will ask the respondent/interviewee questions and record their responses. Interviews can also be carried out on the telephone; for telephone interviews the researcher will ring the person they would like to interview or make a number of random telephone calls so that they have a varied selection of respondents...

...There are many differences between the juvenile court system and the adult court system. While the primary focus in juvenile court is treatment, rehabilitation, and community protection, the primary goal of the adult system is punishment, and not rehabilitation (PBS, 2014). Limitations are also placed on public access to juvenile records because of the belief that juvenile offenders can be successfully rehabilitated and to avoid their unnecessary stigmatization. While juvenile hearings are closed to the public, juvenile court proceedings may be closed to the public. In contrast, open public records are required for adults and adult courts are open to the public (PBS, 2014). There are no jury trials in juvenile court and the cases are heard...

...Comparison of open source OS and closed source OS Ted Wallick University of Phoenix The definition of closed source Operating System(OS), is any OS made but it's code and functionality is private to the vendor that made it. The end user can neither look at it's core/kernel or change it in any way. If an end user needs a change made, a change request has to be sent to the vendor to get adjustments made. This is how most commercial software is developed. Microsoft Windows OS (PC and mobile), Apple OS X, IOS, and UNIX, are primary examples of closed OS. Closed OS has some Pros and Cons. Pros: * Vendors have complete control over hardware and functionality. * The vendor gets to set some standards with how software and hardware are developed to work with the OS. * Vendor controls Versions and updates * Vendor controls any security issues (personally I would not want this hot potato) * Vendor has some control over what 3rd party developers make * Easier for the OS vendor and 3rd party developers to make money. Cons: * Response to system exploits (things that allow hackers to do whatever) is slower than open source OS due to a limited amount of code monkeys that have intimate knowledge and access to the OS code base * Closed OSs cost end users money hand over fist. Major upgrades will cost money. Most 3rd party software will cost large amounts of money. This is only fair to the people that put great time, effort and money to develop the tools...

...Ethical Considerations in Primary Research Summary: Primary research involves collecting data about a given subject directly from the real world. This section includes information on what primary research is, how to get started, ethics involved with primary research and different types of research you can do. It includes details about interviews, surveys, observations, and analysis. Contributors:Dana Lynn Driscoll, Allen Brizee Last Edited: 2012-09-21 10:05:43 Primary research is conducted all of the time--journalists use it as their primary means of reporting news and events; national polls and surveys discover what the population thinks about a particular political figure or proposal; and companies collect data on their consumer base and market trends. When conducting research in an academic or professional setting, you need to be aware of the ethics behind your research activity. Here are some specific points to consider: * You should have the permission of the people who you will be studying to conduct research involving them. * Not all types of research require permission—for example, if you are interested in analyzing something that is available publicly (such as in the case of commercials, public message boards, etc) you do not necessarily need the permission of the authors. * You don’t want to do anything that would cause physical or emotional harm to your subjects. This could be something as simple as being careful how you word sensitive or difficult...

...when the word "investment" is batted around. Ownership investments are the most volatile and profitable class of investment. The following are examples of ownership investments: Stocks Stocks are literally certificates that say you own a portion of a company. More broadly speaking, all traded securities, from futures to currency swaps, are ownership investments, even though all you may own is a contract. When you buy one of these investments, you have a right to a portion of a company's value or a right to carry out a certain action (as in a futures contract). Your expectation of profit is realized (or not) by how the market values the asset you own the rights to. If you own shares in Sony and Sony posts a record profit, other investors are going to want Sony shares too. Their demand for shares drives up the price, increasing your profit if you choose to sell the shares. Business The money put into starting and running a business is an investment. Entrepreneurship is one of the hardest investments to make because it requires more than just money. Consequently, it is also an ownership investment with extremely large potential returns. By creating a product or service and selling it to people who want it, entrepreneurs can make huge personal fortunes. Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft and one of the world's richest men, is a prime example. Real Estate Houses, apartments or other dwellings that you buy to rent out or repair and resell are investments. The house you live in, however...

...never thought about how complicated these procedures are, and also how closely they are related to our daily lives, I could not believe that there are so many examples to support the concepts in order to facilitate learning. Although we think every day, we are not thinking consciously all the time, the subconscious process is an interesting concept to look at. According to Travis and Wade (2012, p.283), subconscious processes lie outside of awareness but can be brought into consciousness when necessary; this concept explains the existence of multitasking, however, due to limited capacity, the divided attention illustrates that we can only effectively handle one attention-consuming task at one time. In my understandings, handling two tasks at the same time could better utilize time. When I was studying in primary school, I used to watch TV while doing homework, then we discussed with our classmates on the next day about how we were capable in “multitasking” in order to make the time more meaningful. However, from time to time, I have found difficulties in focusing on homework or revision while I am watching TV or listening to something else, I thought that was because of the declining ability, in fact, it is related to the level of attention required for the tasks. For instances, when I am teaching a group of primary students as a private tutor, I usually fail in multitasking that I could not handle all questions from students at the same time, handling everything at the...
