Chapter I
The Problem and Its Background

Introduction
Students spend one third of their 24 hours to study. A high school student spends 8 hours to school. For college students, sometimes they need longer time because of library research and extracurricular activities. (Molmisa, 2011)
If the students spend more time in school than at home they should learn much from school. But why does some student get failing grade and some get passing grade?
The student’s performance or academic achievement plays an important role in producing the best quality graduates who will become great leader and manpower for the country’s economic and social development. (Ali et.al, 2009)
This research will be conducted to find out what affects student’s academic performance. The focus of this research is how student’s performance is affected by factors.
Student’s performance is affected due to social, psychological, economic, environmental and personal factors. These factors strongly influence on the student performance, but these factors vary from person to person and country to country.

Theoretical Framework This chapter presents the relevant theories about Factors Affecting Academic Performance of Bachelor of Science in Immaculate Conception International College of Arts and Technology in Sta. Maria, Bulacan.
The factors affecting academic performance of a student has many reason why it is happening. Thinking skills will affect student’s learning facilities if they will not learn what they need to learn. If teachers do not know how to catch attention of a student, the more the student cannot make themselves be attended to that subject. The student gets lazy because it has a subject that they think that it has no relevance to their course but yet they study it.

Specifically will answer the following questions

Significance of Study
Hopefully, this study will benefit the following:
Students – understand better how the factors can affect academic performance. They will be able to improve their academic performance for future career.
Parents – they will be able to understand and help their sons/daughter regarding the school matter and give support to them.
Teacher – this study will help them to understand their students that have problem with their grade. They will find alternative action on how to handle the students.
School Administrators – the results of this study may help the school administrators. They will be able to promote thinking skills assessment in their school, letting their teachers understand the influences of their student’s preferred learning styles that will promote adequate learning opportunities and effective instructions.
Future researcher – this study will help them to have idea regarding factors affecting the academic performances of tourism students. This will also help them in their future study.

Scope and Delimitation
The respondents of this research were the BS tourism student
According to Anderson et. 2001 research over the last 40 years has confirmed that synthesis and evaluation are at the same level of difficulty but use different cognitive process. it is more likely that synthesis/ creating and evaluation/evaluating are at the same level both depend on analysis can a foundational processes . Since, the research included synthesis as one of level of thinking skills, evaluation level was excluded.
This study focuses on the factors affecting academic performance of BS tourism student’s questionnaires will be used to gain information regarding academic performance the study has respondents with the age bracket and conducted in ICI Sta. Maria, Bulacan

Chapter II
Review of Related Literature and Studies

Local literature
(Rafael 2003) learning styles were found to be related to the student’s performance on higher order thinking skills. Identifying and subsequently teaching to students learning styles has been shown to be beneficiary, as well as classifying the learning styles of students with will enables educators to provide an environment that facilitates learning. According to him the often used learning strategies by the student helped in the development of their higher order thinking skills as this was found to be strongly related to their performance.
(Ronald Molmisa) grades, rather than education and integrity, have become a major focus of many students.
Foreign literature
A student’s academic performance depends on the regency of exercise. All the things that are newly learned are easier to remember. (Thorndike, 1913)
Local studies
Students’ performance on measures of higher order thinking ability has displayed a critical need for student to develop the skills and attitudes of effective thinking. There is yet another major force behind the call for improved thinking skills and instruction. Educators flow generally agreed that it is in fact possible to increase student’s creative and critical thinking capacities through instruction and practice. Students gain or loss in their academic achievement is one of problem face today (Ma. Elena Teresa R. Domingo 2008)
Foreign studies
Year 1983, an American psychologist, Howard Gardner presented his theory about Multiple Intelligences. Gardner argued that there is no one underlying general intelligence. We have, instead different intelligences, each a part of an independent system in the brain. 1. Linguistic Intelligence – It was found to a person/people making novels, poems, essays. Ex: Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe and Rizal is part of this group. 2. Logical-mathematical Intelligence – Physicist Albert Einstein is good end example of a person exhibiting this kind of intelligence. 3. Intrapersonal intelligence- critical thinker and ability to give solution to issues and reality of life. Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Mohandas Gandhi have this kind of intelligence.

Chapter 3
Methodology of the Study
Introduction
This chapter presents the methods used by the researchers in this study. it involves the research design, the research instrument that will use to gather information with who are the participants of a studies was is statistical treatment will use in this study and what kind of procedure will used in data gathering.

Research design
The researchers will use the descriptive method of research design because it is use when the studies is design primarily to describe records and interpret facts the researcher will use questionnaires and surveys because it will be much more comfortable for the respondents to give answer about factors affecting their academic performance.
Participants of the Study
The respondents will receive questionnaires with regards to this study.
Our respondents are the first year to third year BS Tourism students of ICI Sta. Maria. Hence, the students shall be in a good condition and capable to answer questionnaires and survey with all honesty.
Research Instrument
The research instruments that will use in this study are questionnaire and survey. These two instruments will help our researchers to gather information from our respective respondents. The questions in the survey forms are about personal information and their perception about the factors affecting their academic performance.
Data Gathering Procedure
The questionnaire and the survey will distribute to the first year to third year BS Tourism students after explaining the purpose of the researcher on this study.
