FACULTY BULLIES
Presented by
NAIA OWENS

Workplace bulling refers to repeated, unreasonable actions of individuals, or a group directed towards and employee or a group of employees, which is intended to intimidate and creates a risk to the health and safety of the employee(s). Workplace bulling often involves an abuse or misuse of power. Bullying includes behavior that intimidates, degrades, offends, or humiliates a worker, often in front of others. Bullying behavior creates feelings of defenselessness in the target and undermines an individuals right to dignity at work.
Bullies do not run good organizations. Staff turnover and sick leave will be high while morale and productivity will be low, Stress, depression and physical health problems result in time away from work that is costly in terms of workers’ compensation and lost productivity. The breakdown of trust in a bullying environment may mean that employees will fail to contribute their best work, don’t give extra ideas for improvement, do not provide feedback on failures and may be less honest about performance.
Creating a zero tolerance anti-bullying policy, can and will help contribute to effective change management. This policy should be part of the wider commitment to a safe and healthful working environment and should involve the appropriate Human Resource representative. When witnessed or reported, the bullying behavior should be addressed IMMEDIATELY. If bullying is entrenched in the organization, complaints need to be taken seriously and investigated promptly. Reassignment of those involved may be necessary (with and innocent until proven guilty approach).
Structure the work environment to incorporate a sense of autonomy, individual challenge/mastery, and clarity of task expectations for employees. Include employees in decision-making processes. Hold awareness campaigns for EVERYONE on what

...Marisa Cipolla Mrs. Fader Day 2 Block 1 January 29, 2013 All Summer in a Day 1) At the Beginning of the story how did the students feel? Find two details from the story the prove your thought. Explain. All of the children were extremely excited for the sun to come. They knew it only happened once every seven years. The last time almost everyone saw the sun was when they were two years old and don’t remember anything about it or what if felt like, or looked like. They believed the rain would stop and they could finally see the sun. 2) Explain how Margot’s experience of the sun is different from the experience of all of the other children on Venus. Find at least one specific detail to explain. Margot has a different experience with the sun, because she was born on Earth and brought to Venus later in her life, all the other kids had been born there. So Margot had seen the sun every day until she was around four years old. For Example, “...She remembered the sun and the way the sun was and the sky was when she was four in Ohio. And they, they had been on Venus all their lives, and they had only been two years old when the last sun came out...” She had been able to see and feel the sun for four years of her life while all the other kids only saw it and felt it for one hour seven years ago. She is the only one who knows and remembers what it looks and feels like. 3) What Point is made about Margot when the story says that rain had “washed the blue from her eyes”...

Uni University and Its New Erp System

...UNI UNIVERSITY AND ITS NEW ERP SYSTEM 1) This case illustrates the complexity of the relationship between technology and organization in the context of knowledge work. Some famous theories, indeed, demonstrate that there are important, complex and reciprocal causal relationship between these two aspects to the extent that different type of technologies can be associated with different form of organizations (Woodward). When you decide to introduce a new technology system in your organization you can’t think that it will carry automatically positive changes because it is difficult to predict in advance the outcomes of this type of implementation. The way technology is used and its efficiency depend on complex interactions between technology, organizations, users and context: individuals and groups can enact the same technology in different ways. This is the reason way the role of human agency in accomplishing technologies is so important. You have to plan this change, you have to manage it and you have to communicate with employees, explaining them how and why the change will be implemented. 2) The major problem was the lack of a correct communication between Uni and ConsultCo: they, initially, aimed to achieve the same goal sharing their skills but they misinterpreted their partnership agreements. Uni wanted to develop a system compatible with its...

Development of an Automated Competency Examination Analyzer with Interactive Feedback Mechanism and Its Effectiveness

...Development of an Automated Competency Examination Analyzer with Interactive Feedback Mechanism and its Effectiveness Submitted by: Bensan, Jester L. Chapter I PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND A. Introduction In a regular semester, every teaching department conducts competency exams for subjects that are included from the course outline’s in-semester subjects. A competency exam for a given subject is composed of 50 questions. Every question has 5 choices, in which the 5th choice is either all of the above or none of the above. All questions are gathered in a question bank, which questions have been verified correct and validated before actually using them on actual exams. From that question bank, set of questions will be analyzed and selected to form a subject’s competency exam. A problem may arise if the questions found in the test bank, which are probably just paper documents, or unsecured electronic files, are stolen, manipulated or snooped. Also, there is a high probability that the questions found on exams are just the retake of previous batches, thereby encouraging cheating and disclosure. The process of selecting questions from the test question bank is also troublesome and time-consuming. The task of choosing questions based on difficulty and domain of learning may be quite confusing especially if one decides to select the questions manually. It may require a lot of patience and keen analytical skills to obtain a competency exam in which questions...

...the morning. Most students are not fully woken up yet when they start learning. How are kids supposed to be asked to complete an algebra or history test that early in the morning when their brains aren’t fully functioning? Students would be more willing to learn because they won’t be in a grumpy mood. They’ll be awake and the teachers can get more accomplished. Paramus Catholic Regional High School consists of students from 120 different towns. Students who live a half hour or even an hour away have to wake up extremely early just to get to school on time. Some student’s have to take the public bus. The students at Paramus Catholic get dismissed very early. Instead of making the students arrive to school so early in the morning, the faculty can make school start later and the students will get dismissed later on in the after noon. Another good reason why getting dismissed later on in the afternoon is because a lot of parents work and don’t get let out until five at night. Students have to be home alone by themselves and sometimes have no ride home if their town does not provide a bus. Students in sport activities often have to wait at school for rides for several hours. Teenagers have very busy schedules. After school, most students stay after for sports. They have practice every...

Conflict Resolution

...have come to a complete standstill. Talks, when they do start, become called off rather quickly. Both sides see the other as being intransigent and both sides feel their own perspective has not been heard by the other. In the midst of all of this are the students who have been out of school for a long time. The faculty too is frustrated as they feel caught in the middle between the University and the sessional/part time staff. The union for the instructors has been lobbying both students and tenured faculty to take their side in this conflict. The administration has written a few letters to students and faculty themselves defending their perspective. Some background information:  Last year, the faculty negotiated a pay raise with the University of a 5% increase over a period of 3 years. In contrast, when the sessional/part time instructors’ contract came up for renewal this year, the University offered these instructors an increase of only 2.5% over a period of 3 years. The sessional/part time instructors feel that this difference in increase represents inequity.  The University justifies paying sessional/part time instructors less than permanent faculty on the basis that the sessionals are usually young, mainly women, and are used to working for less pay for equal work because differences in pay based on gender and age are evident in most other jobs in society as well. Most everyone in society agrees that there is nothing wrong with this justification for paying...

College Atheletes Privilaged

...English 1301 07/09/10 The debate of whether college athletes receive special treatment has been an ongoing issue for decades now. College is a very difficult task to complete, especially when trying to balance both sports and academics. With that being said, education should be their main priority. College athletes should have all of the same responsibilities as non-athletes as far as academics are concerned. So should college athletes be exempt from normal class? The athletics department is considered to be one of the most revenue making departments in many colleges. Therefore student athletes are many times allowed special treatment with regard to minimum school requirements. While I do understand that athletics are a very important part of the college experience, it should not be the main priority. The priority of a college is to provide students the opportunity to earn not just a degree but a skill that will help them to succeed in the real world. The cost of living is very high and just keeps getting higher, for a person to be competitive in todays job market it is almost necessary to have a college degree. The number of athletes that actually turn professional are few. Most athletes don’t go pro after college so they should make academics their number one priority in order to get the full educational experience. Those that do make it to pro are at high risk career ending injuries on a daily basis. That is why it is really important that student athletes be encouraged...
