All the above are some of the alarming statistics that we know about the impact of fatherless homes. The brethren of the LDS church have stated, “The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity.” They also warned that, “The disintegration of the family will bring upon individuals, communities, and nations the calamities foretold by ancient and modern prophets. We call upon responsible citizens and officers of government everywhere to promote those measures designed to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit of society.” This statement that the LDS church issued came out around 1995. At that time a lot of people wouldn’t think that the family would be failing, but if you look at the statistics shown there has been a change that can impact and even lead to the family failing in our society. …show more content…
Porter of the Seventy gave a talk titled Defending the Family in a Troubled World. In this talk he makes a very interesting point, he says, “Regardless of what the future may hold, God has ordained that in the dispensation of the fullness of times, the parents of the Church will be given power to help save their children from the darkness around them. As the hearts of fathers and mothers turn to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents, we eventually will witness the rise of a generation refined and prepared to meet the Savior at His coming. The triumph of God’s kingdom in the latter days will be a triumph not only of the Church as an organization but of tens of thousands of individual families who by faith have overcome the

Fatherless Children

...The Impact of Fatherless Children Alexander Ontiverios Essay Report The last several decades have seen an alarming trend of increasing father absence or fatherlessness. Fatherlessness is widely recognized as a contributing factor to a myriad of social maladies in the United States. Father absence has been a subject of heated debate and the center of countless surveys, focus groups and opinion polls. There are some who disagree as to exactly how culpable absent fathers are for many of the social ills we’re seeing in our society today, but there’s no denying it is a problem. This paper will endeavor to show that in spite of often heroic efforts by single mothers to rear their children as productive members of society, there is an overwhelming amount of data indicating fatherlessness as a significant factor of violent crime, educational under-achievement, high rates of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), teenage pregnancy and behavioral disorders and it is vital that children have a father proactively involved in their lives wherever possible. Arguably the most desperate reason for fathers to engage in a positive way in their children’s lives is reflected in the statistics of violent crime. The young men of society today are growing up without fathers to guide them and teach them right from wrong. This has produced a generation of young men who are astonishingly angry. According to a report by Criminal Justice and Behavior, “Eighty percent of rapists motivated by...

Problem Statement

...ASSIGNMENT 4 SECTION 1: RESEARCH PROPOSAL : The importance of fatherhood in children lives. | | Please study the topics and reading material of Quality Circle 2 and complete the following sections of the research proposal: | | 3 INTRODUCTION3.1 Problem StatementThere has been an explosion in research on the benefits of having engaged and involved fathers, as well as the deleterious consequences of father absence. Although the negative outcomes for fatherless children are pervasive and impact all ethnicities, the focus of this qualitative research is on understanding the lived experiences of a particular family that has suffered through the pain of three generations of father absence. The literature regarding father absence is reviewed, and the negative outcomes associated with fatherless children are explored. The father absence literature categorically concludes that the father’s role is essential in child development. This problem statement project aims to develop a program from a Christian perspective that can be implemented in churches or faith-based groups to address the issue of father absence. The ultimate goal of this project is to reconnect fathers in a research demonstrating that children from single parent homes experience disadvantages when compared to their peers. In addition, the pain and emotional longing for the absentee father often persists into adulthood. Jeanne M. Hilton and Esther L. Devall, (1998), 23-54; This paper provides a practical resource...

Drug Traffic

...global/national issue, but when it is effecting the ones you love, It becomes a personal issue. While some feel drug decriminalization does not lead to an increase of drug use, Most Americans do not favor it (Hartnett,E.July,2012 Drug Legalization: Why It Wouldn't Work in the United States). Drug trafficking is a "dead end street" that has entrap a lot of promising young men and women in New jersey. The effects of drug trafficking can be life-changing for the worst for young adults who chose this lifestyle. These were core reasons for why I decided to go with this topic. The purpose of this paper is to show the compounding effects of drug trafficking in New Jersey. Drug Trafficking Drug trafficking or illegal drug trading is a criminal offense that occurs when a person transports, manufactures, and sells unlawful controlled substances such as: marijuana, cocaine, heroin, LSD, Ecstasy, or methamphetamines. Research showed that drug trafficking is a significant problem facing the United States and Mexico and is considered to be an issue of Homeland Border Security. Drug trafficking operations tend to run a large scale basis, either domestically or internationally. In most cases, drug trafficking is categorized as a federal offense, due...

Fatherlessness

...Women | June 16, 2016 BAXTER, BRIANA | History of Black Women | June 16, 2016 CHILDREN WITH NO LIGHT a Fatherless Society CHILDREN WITH NO LIGHT a Fatherless Society For years Fathers have been the back bone of society. Fathers are gods, they not only carry the seed of life they also have the power to create a mini God in his image. An offspring of himself that can make the world a better place. For the past two decades their role is being stripped from them, society not only says but also states that the father role is no longer needed or necessary, because he is the reason why there is complete discord and mayhem running rampant in the world. But society is wrong. Fathers are not to blame. Only society is to blame for the decline of the gods. In fact, I could argue that fatherless girls have a more profound and long-term impact on society than fatherless boys. You see, boys without dads often act out in spectacularly violent and disruptive fashions, whether it’s flash mobs or gang membership or rapes or robberies. When a fatherless boy is acting out his pain, we know it. However fatherless girls are seldom this dramatic. Instead, they act out their pain and suffering in different ways. Fatherless girls are far more likely to drop out of school, suffer from depression or other emotional disorders and mask their pain through increased promiscuity. In short, fatherless girls have babies. Without fathers. Since the 1960s, women have been sold a bill of goods when they were...

Imbalances within the family can be difficult even without outside influences making it even more difficult. We as teachers see more than parents think we do; wemay notice that a child shows up dirty to class, or seems distracted all the time. This is when we as teachers need to find out what exactly is going on with our students and their family. As a teacher we need to discuss how we will deal with children who are struggling, how we as teachers will connect with families and the different strategies that can be used to support students and families within their learning environment. As I researched the why homelessness occurs I also found that these children are a byproduct of the life they were dealt whether by being a single parent, a fatherless home, immigrants or homeless with nowhere else to go. ...1 If a person is writing an academic discussion paper, quoting the book or author he is analyzing means he is using a primary source. On the other hand, if the writer is quoting or paraphrasing an opinion about the book or author from the source means he is using a secondary source. Depending on the type of essay, both primary and secondary sources are acceptable options of any writing. Applying the right type of sources is an important part of an essay to make your arguments more credible, understandable, and clear to the readers. Although primary sources are the first choices to make any paper more credible as well as stronger, using secondary sources in your paper would support the point which is made by the primary source. Divorce

...life I have grown up in a house where all of us kids had the same parents. Where we were required to go to church and sit down together at dinner. Why is it that my family is different from others. Aren’t all families like this? Don’t all kids grow up in loving homes?] – ( Needs to be more creative, Its not good to use open ended questions as an attention grabber. Maybe something a shocking statistic would work better) {As far as a topic sentence ought to be, I think you should summarize a bit more, so that your thesis is a bit more clear, instead of being inquisitive. E.g.: Shockingly, the U.S. has the biggest incarceration (or imprisonment) rate than other nations. The perhaps biggest thing that causes such a catastrophe is the fact that so many children in the U.S. don’t grow up with two moral, strong-based parents. :P} The truth is is that most kids don’t have this privilege. In fact for a lot of kids the importance of the family is not taken seriously and is taken for granted by those who do experience it. Without a strong based family, a child loses key lessons from his or her parents: and when a child grows up with out knowing right from wrong the end result can be devastating. A child that grows up in a dysfunctional{what is dysfunctional to you may not be to others…may want to be a little more specific} family is at greater risk to do drugs, drop out of school, be sexually active, be abused, and live in poverty.((< definitely cite this. Although it may seem like common...

I.Q. V.S. Enviorment

...Lisovich Thomas J. 3-18-2015 Position paper: 2Y I.Q. V.S. environment Does intelligence or environment better determine the likelihood of criminal behavior? Some believe that lack of intelligence or education is the main cause of people committing crimes. While others will argue that a negative environment is a much stronger influence, and that an education can just make it easier to commit such crimes. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, about 41% of inmates in the Nation’s state and federal prisons and local jails in 1997 and 31% of probationers had not completed high school or its equivalent. In comparison, 18% of the general population age 18 or older had not finished the 12th grade. Between 1991 and 1997, the percent of inmates in State prison without a high school diploma or GED remained the same — 40% in 1997 and 41% in 1991. Of inmates in State prisons, 293,000 in 1991 and 420,600 in 1997 had entered prison without a high school diploma, a 44% increase. With statistics like this one could argue that education plays an enormous role in the likelihood of one committing a crime. According to an article published in the “OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS” in 2013, Traditional biological theories state that individuals commit criminal acts due to biological or genetic defects. Crime is a result of these abnormalities, and not a choice made by the offender. Crime can be prevented by isolating, treating, separating, sterilizing, or killing the individual...

One idea which is regaining traction is imprecatory prayers or “cursing” prayers. These prayers of cursing are found throughout the Bible but the most notable examples are found in Psalms. Christians struggle, however, with whether or not praying these prayers is in keeping with the orthodox teachings of Christ whose teachings involved mercy, grace, and forgiveness. So can and should Christians utilize the imprecatory psalms as part of their regular prayer life or not? Full Inclusion: Down Syndrome

...Abstract When a community of followers listens to the heartbeat of God, wondrous things can happen, and it did for The Rock Church & World Outreach Center (ROWOC). God has taught this once exceptionally small group of people to be a Christian church. God told the Pastors to come to a city that was full of sin, pain, in need of the Almighty Savior and filled with poverty. “Pastors Jim and Deborah Cobra had just started the church with a small group of people, and the Lord was already bringing in the broken-hearted, the sick and the maimed” (The Rock Church, 2013). With the promise from Isaiah 12:3, “With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation”, The Rock Church begins a life-long difference in a broken city. Then after many years, a mother and her son with Down syndrome named “Brian” came to service. The church was developing and expanding its structures at the time. The Pastor was preaching about how the members could help by donations to pay off the upgraded church. Pledges were being made, and Brian was only a young child at the time. He wanted to pledge. He wanted to get involved. His mother was astounded by Brian’s need to be involved. At first, the mother did not think of Brian being able to determine his involvement in the pledge; however she did not want to confuse the love of the Lord that Brian was clearly showing. She did not think it was possible for him to get, but she quickly learned she was wrong. This is when RCWOC decided to make a fully...
