1. About 7 years ago, December 2009, my brother and I went to play in the snow. Now normally there would be a very small amount of snow barely enough to make a snow man, but this snowfall was different. This year it snowed so much school was cancelled and I felt like the world was under a white blanket trying to stay warm during the winter months. There was a large field behind our house that looked so barren and empty. We thought we should liven it up. We rushed into our snow clothes like a kitten rushes to milk. After getting into our clothes we hopped what seemed to be 10 foot fence into the empty clearing. My first thought was that this was our kingdom and we were the kings, we could do whatever we wanted here. This untouched snow field was ours for the taking. My brother rushed a pile of snow into a large ball and I started a snow base. In my current state of building I hadn’t realized my brother was busy making snowballs and readying up for a brother against brother snowball fight. As constructing a base I feel a baseball sized ice shard. I quickly turned and saw my brother hiding behind the wall I built for my protection. I rapidly formed bumpy misshapen snow ammunition to retaliate. We start firing, and I end up getting smacked in the nose so hard blood gushed out like the amazon into the ocean. In the moment I pinch my nose and run for home. We get to the towering fence. My brother hopped on and climbed like a spider monkey. I latched on but my cold shivering hands could last on the giant frozen fence. I looked at my brother through the fence for help but there was no use, I knew this was my fight. I took a step back and look at this menacing fence. I cant tell where the top ends and the sky starts. I stand in quiet contemplation and think about my options. “could I dig under it? No the ground is too cold. How about around it? No, its too wide. Well over it I go ” I thought to myself. I rise up faster than an eagle catches its pray. I took a deep breath, felt a fire in me, rubbed my hands and grabbed again. I Instantly feel the cold iron burning my hands. It hurts so much but I know I need to get over. The top was so far, I can barely see the top. I don’t know how but I reach for another hold. Again the cold burns, I feel my heart race. I let out a huff and reach further on, but this time was different. No pain, just motivation. I knew I could conquer this and I’m not about to let it win. I look up and see it, I see the top! Salvation is near, Valhalla awaits! The top seems like 8 feet away but I know I can do it. I reach out for a couple more feet and grab hold like a gorilla. I rise and am now eye level with the top. How could this be? I swear I had at least 8 feet to go. This is strange, but I seize the opportunity and hop on top of the fence in such a way I end up sitting with both my legs on the side facing my house. I look at the ground and something is off. I feel like im only a few feet up. I guess through my fear and hesitation it looked like a much harder challenge. I hop down but can’t quite land on my feet and end up landing on my chest. I roll over and breathe in a mouthful of victory. “im home” runs through my mind. I stand up and head for the warm comfort of my home. I run over as a blood trail follows. I reach my glass sliding door and see my brother sitting on the couch watching a movie (what a good brother eh?). I knock on the glass with my bloody hand pleading to be taken out of this cold cold world. My brother hurries over with a blanket and lets me in. I rush to tissues and stuff my nose and look at the fence through my kitchen window. I think to myself “I conquered you”. I sit down on the couch with the blanket, today was a good day.
