...about problems on the job. On this particular week they discuss performance appraisals, which they recently conducted for all of their direct reports. Each of the managers completed evaluation forms using graphic rating scales on each employee then discussed the appraisal with that employee. Throughout the discussion they give their opinions on how performance appraisals should be conducted and the flaws that exist within the current ranking system. Tom talks about how emotions play into the process and create biases when conducting evaluations, however, he believes that providing true and accurate feedback is a top priority to ensuring that the evaluations are an accurate reflection of an employee’s performance. Jim believes what he learned from a professor in college that when you sit down to evaluate an employee’s performance from a previous 12 month period you will only be able to recall and use about 15 percent of the performance you actually observed. He also thinks fine-tuning is warranted in certain situations. For example, if an employee whose performance has been poor a majority of the year but significantly improves at the end of the year Jim will give the employee a higher rating over the whole year than the work deserves. He...

...1) What do recent developments in cosmology and biology suggest about the role of teleological explanation in the sciences? What implications, if any, does this have for religion? Due to recent developments in the natural sciences fields of cosmology and biology the information suggests that the theistic worldview is easily reinforced through the Anthropic Cosmological Principle. The cosmological principle states that strengths of controlling forces of nature are determined by constants in nature (McGrath, 2010). In the cosmological principle we see through a series of fine structures life as we know it depends on physical constants and out of these constants there is the fine structure constant, gravitational fine structure constant and...

...multiple learning styles, I must make numerous efforts in changing my behavior & thought processes. Taking inventory and fine tuning the stronger learning styles is also imperative in pushing my learning abilities to their limits. Should these steps work, I will have enabled myself with the skills to take in more information and process it in a more efficient manner. I am in total agreement with the VARK assessment. It proves that I have obvious strengths and weaknesses, however, not as great as I suspected. My Visual was a 10, Aural – 11, Read/Write – 13, and Kinesthetic – 14. There is importance in improving on all of my learning styles, but I would like to strengthen the “weaker” of the set, first. Once I handle that, I can then begin to fine tune the rest, and try to keep the learning styles as balanced as I can, creating an optimal learning style and adaptability. As stated earlier, my Aural/Visual styles are in need of improvement. First, I plan on finding alternative methods of study, whether its books on tape, live lectures, seminars, or “how-to” videos. These options force my use of the auditory/visual parts of my brain, thus, helping me learn and reroute some of my thought processes. Rerouting my information intake can help me with the creation of new, abstract and original ideas, and possibly remove some barriers I have with my idea-making practices. Next, I would target the fine tuning of my stronger styles, Read/Write and Kinesthetic. I have always been good with...

...the path of finding their identity in vocation. Human beings are searching for authenticity of the soul that lives within them and Palmer gives each of us clues to help make the process easier. His constant message throughout the book asks, “Is the life I am living the same as the life that wants to live in me?” I personally found this book challenging and it made me think about my vocation as a minister as a whole. I know God has called me to the ministry, but I am still working through the fine-tuning of that calling. In other words, is God calling me to work as a pastor, missionary, youth minister, teacher, or a music worship leader? My seminary experience is helping me figure this out. However, I feel I am called to all of the above in some capacity. Regardless, of the vocational outcome the only thing I can control today is my relationship with God. I appreciate the words Palmer uses to address this and I feel it resonates my own identity. God asks us to only honor our created nature, which means our limits as well as potentials (Palmer 50). My first year of seminary has afforded me to explore what my limits are. It is obvious that I cannot do everything like I Smith 2 used to do when I was younger. Even then, I only thought I could do everything. However, I am in the process of learning what my potentials are. How am I learning this? My nature is finally matched with Gods nature and my vocation is as well. In conclusion, I enjoyed the clear honest...

...they were the most valid way to predict success at the company. More recently, the company has tried to apply its quantitative excellence to the problem of making better selection decisions. First, it set out to measure which selection criteria were important. It did this by conducting a survey of employees who had been with Google for at least five months. These questions addressed a wide variety of characteristics, such as areas of technical expertise, workplace behavior, personality, and even some nonworking habits that might uncover something important about candidates. For example, perhaps subscribing to a certain magazine or owning a dog could be related to success are Google by indirectly measuring some important trait no one had thought to ask about. The results of the survey were compared with measures of successful performance, including performance appraisals, compensation, and organizational citizenship (behaving in ways that contribute...

...into play. This allows object separation to increase faster than the speed of light. Relative to inflation theory, metric cosmic expansion is postulated to have been caused by a quantum field. A field having triggered cosmic inflation would solve the problem of how, in order for our universe to exist as it does at present, the initial conditions during the Big Bang would have had to be very fine-tuned and contrived- this is wholly unrealistic, and not very scientific. Conversely, this theorised quantum field would be what is known as a scalar field that assigns a value to every point in space, driving inflation and allowing the universe to flourish. It has been creatively dubbed an...

...I focused on explaining what diction was and reflected how Shakespeare used it and how it affected this sonnet: “Diction is not always limited to word choice; it can also include things like the enunciation of words”. I explained how pronouncing these two words played a critical role in this: “emphasis can be placed upon the “lie” part of belied. Through “belied”, it helps exacerbate and exemplify how society “lies” about the ideal standards of women”, “Damasked sounds and can be pronounced incredibly similar to demasked”. Through incorporating the role of enunciation in these two instances, I brought to light new points of thought and expanded upon my...

...Something was affecting the soldiers and it was hurting them. I quickly thought about what was happening. The commander told us to blockade the airport, the only way out of this city other than its borders. It must be something highly infectious. Also something that can mutate in a quick state. Thinking back to college, we learned that virus can adapt and can take over the body quickly. The world hasn’t seen something like this since the massive Ebola outbreak in 2014. However, something like this just popping out is surprising. Inspecting the others, they looked perfectly fine. Passing the airport checkpoint, I looked out the window. The airplanes were burning. Wait! The airplanes were burning! I ran to the commander and reported my findings. He seemed calm and...

In fact, the newly introduced Lexus established previously unimaginable initial quality records, and may be said to have been the car that most sparked the quality revolution in the North American auto industry. Today, Toyota is Japan’s biggest carmaker with over $120 billion in annual sales. Toyota is one the few companies that has demonstrated an ability to pursue several directions simultaneously. The traditional organizational identity at Toyota was highly focused and internally directed. Perfecting “lean production” and “just in time” manufacturing techniques, Toyota became symbolized by quality and efficiency which made it a benchmark for automobile manufacturing worldwide. Engineering, extensive product testing and process redesigns are competencies for which Toyota has become renowned. More recently, Toyota became more adaptive in order to respond to external challenges confronting the firm. In the face of internal calls for protectionism, Toyota diversified its manufacturing and assembly plants from its core location in Toyota City in Aichi, Japan, to new plants in many regions...

...Scaling Study Developing and conducting a survey is a very technical process. Any researcher that takes on a process like this must be careful to develop proper and appropriate questions for the survey to collect the most valid and reliable data. Conducting and presenting the survey is just as crucial as the creation of the questions. If either of these areas is neglected or not handled appropriately the entire research process is wasted. The purpose this paper is to critique a survey I created and issued to 10 random individuals. Included in the critique of this survey is a discussion of the reliability and validity of the survey and the results collected. Survey and Content The survey under review is a short eight questions developed to understand general health of individuals through diet and exercise. The survey was completed using two forms of questions. The first type question falls under the definition of a rating scale. “Rating scale is used when participants score an object or indicant without making a direct comparison to another object or attitude” (Cooper, Schindler, 2011, Ch. 12). Under these guidelines individuals were asked to answer questions pertaining to how often they exercise, how often they eat each day, and how often they eat fast food. These questions are created so there can be no comparisons made, but rather a numerical value selection. The second sets of questions are a version of ranking scale inquiries. “Ranking scales constrain...

...to explore diverse dimensions of globalization and its impact on Amazon. Amazon.com is one of the most successful companies for selling goods and services online. This paper enlightens the changes that have been brought to the online retailer of the United Kingdom and the strategies constructed by Amazon to cope with the market’s changing dimensions. The term Globalization is broadly used as the process through which an ever-expanding free flow of goods, services, capital, peoples, and social customs leads to further integration of economies and societies worldwide. This phenomenon is hardly novel, albeit the process of integration has dramatically accelerated over the past few decades. The world has experienced successive waves of globalization (www.informationweek.com). To be ahead of the game they will have to keep up with the forever-changing times. “Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies, and governments of different nations, a process driven by international trade and investment and aided by information technology. This process has effects on the environment, on culture, on political systems, on economic development and prosperity, and on human physical well-being in societies around the world.” Amazon ships too places like Japan, China, and even Canada. They have different fees and limitations for different countries and trade with countries. Globalization goes hand-in-hand with technology; Amazon can see who the leading...

...Design Arguments St. Thomas Aquinas was an important theologian and philosopher whose work on the nature and existence of God and his arguments for a moral code based on the ‘natural law’ God has instilled in the universe have formed the central teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. He sought to bring faith and reason together in order to develop the place of theology in the world. The argument from design finds its origins in Aquinas’ Summa Theologica and is the fifth of his five ways of proving the existence of God. Aquinas’ argument can be explained as follows: “The fifth way is taken from the governance of the world. We see that things which lack knowledge, such as natural bodies, act for an end, and this is evident from their acting always, or nearly always, in the same way, so as to obtain the best result. Hence it is plain that they achieve their end, not fortuitously, but designedly. Now whatever lacks knowledge cannot move towards an end, unless it be directed by some being endowed with knowledge and intelligence; as the arrow is directed by the archer. Therefore some intelligent being exists by whom all natural things are directed to their end; and this being we call God.” Aquinas argued from design qua regularity. He saw the overall order in the world as proof of a designer: ‘this being we call God.’ Aquinas stated that everything works together to achieve order, despite the fact that inanimate objects have no mind or rational powers to achieve...

...Preparing for Academic Success at the Graduate Level Monica Stracuzza COM/600 September 15, 2014 Gracie Aguilera Characteristics of Graduate Writing Writing at the graduate level is a significant part of a student's coursework when entering into a Master's program. Throughout a person's college career, they have written many papers in their undergraduate studies, but writing papers at a graduate level differs from previous styles of writing. There are very distinct characteristics in graduate writing. Following the rules of graduate writing correctly, makes for a clear and precise paper; grabbing the audience's attention, and making the point of the paper undeniable to the reader, while using facts and references to support the thesis. Critical thinking skills are a crucial part of graduate writing. Critical thinking allows the writer to see all the different sides of the debate. The writer will question any assumptions that are made all while avoiding the use of commonplaces. The writer, according to "Graduate Level Writing" (2011*2014) "develops a clear argument from the available literature on the subject. This type of writing establishes a purpose while addressing a particular audience. Often, graduate level writing also provides suggestions for further research and development beyond the limits of the course assignment." Another important part in writing at the graduate level is using an in-depth analysis, of the subject...
