The business has competition because there are some companies that perform similar tasks such as sports corner and Galaxy sports . However, our company will have a better advantage as we will only be dedicated to these kinds of sports and swimming equipment . The owners of the project will be myself , Mohammed and my friend Hassan . The future for this business seems to be promising for great success and the economic , social and legal environment in Qatar helps for that success. The project will depend on a start up sum of QR750,000 and a bank loan so that we can cover all the expenses. The project is expected to generate profits soon after the first six months in the year of start up. All in all, the business is easy to run and is a reasonable idea in Qatar because its market is considered as one of the current emerging markets which is expected to be stable and have more growth.

BUSINESS DESCRIPTION

1 Background

Type of business

FINIS Centre is a business enterprise that is unique of its kind in Qatar. The business is intended to market and offer quality sports cloths and swimming equipment to individuals and clubs. There has not been such a business in Qatar and the idea originated from USA at FINIS sports and equipment. FINIS was founded in 1993 in Northern California, FINIS was founded by John Mix and Olympic Gold Medal Swimmer Pablo Morales. Understanding that improving one's technique is the secret to swimming faster and enjoying the sport more, the duo went on to introduce truly innovative tools to the swimming community. Many of these products are currently used by US and international Olympic teams, elite Triathletes, and fitness swimmers worldwide. Innovative research and design is FINIS' highest priority. This dedication has resulted in truly innovative products such as: the Swimmer's Snorkel which is recognized as the paramount tool to improve a swimmer's technique, the SwiMP3 that uses bone conduction technology to play music instead of using ear buds, and the Z2 Zoomers fins which demonstrate intimate knowledge of swimming musculature, hydrodynamics and engineering.

FINIS is a Latin word that signifies "the end" or "grand finale." It holds symbolic meaning to the company as it not only contains the word 'fin' (our first product), but the word FINIS also represents the true nature of why we, as swimmers, undergo such rigorous training schedules. We continue to strive and improve upon such an unnatural, but immensely rewarding sport. FINIS is, and will always remain, whole heartedly committed to the discovery and development of innovative swimming products that enable athletes to meet that "end" or "grand finale" of a finish line that we as competitors and individuals set as a benchmark to become bigger and better than who we are today. The business format also offers much flexibility to the owners. The company name is also protected and no other business can operate under a similar name and thus the law protects the business name that the members have chosen for the company. In the future it might be possible to have shareholders and investors .

Mission/vision statement

The mission statement of FINIS Centre is “To be the best sports centre in Qatar”. The company wishes to accomplish this agenda by providing all necessary equipment which are original and of high quality. The company has a vision of being a market leader in Qatar in this industry. The company also wishes to move its operations to other regions of the gulf countries after establishing several branches in Qatar during the next five years.

Goals

FINIS Centre wishes to close the gap that exists in Qatar as there is no such centre that provides the same original products in Qatar. Another important issue is that Qatar is now building many new hotels and housing complexes which are all equipped with swimming pools. Qatar also is working quickly to be ready for 2022 games in which many countries will compete. So huge numbers of visitors and athletes will visit Qatar during the competitions and many of these people are swimmers who need our store for swimming clothes and equipment.
The company also wishes to be the most competent company in Qatar and also to see the trend in this new industry.

Business philosophy

The main philosophy held by FINIS Centre is to have the customer demands and preferences at the first place. The company focuses on ensuring that customers receive the best quality products and that they have a say in the company and its products. It is essential to guarantee the satisfaction of the customers so we concentrate on satisfying the customers. We are working hard to keep the customers to be loyal customers as they will be the most important factor in our success.

The other business philosophy held by the company is the quality of products offered. We intend to always provide the best quality products.. This explains why the FINIS Centre brand is given much emphasis. The image must be positive and influential as we will be marketing for reputable products from American company. So we intend to enhance the image of the company.

Core Activities of Proposed Business

The business will mainly focus on sports clothes and swimming. The company will be contracting with the mother company in USA to improve its customer satisfaction and to provide products based on real customer’s satisfaction.

Service description

The service which FINIS Centre will mainly be conduct is providing all the high quality swimming clothes and equipment under one roof. The main focus of our company is to ensure that quality is ensured with the products. Our target groups will be all the sportsmen and women who want to wear and use high fashion and quality products and who are willing to pay for such high quality products.

After that, feedback will be taken from the customers. Based on the Qatari market and our target group, we will be offering the products at a high profit range to cover the expenses and generate profits. There are many costs to be taken into consideration as the cost of the rent , electricity, staff salary payment and inner decoration and maintenance.

Competitive advantages

Finis will be completely focused on providing the best ever products of swimming and sports clothes. The main competitive advantage of FINIS at the initiation stage is the fact that there is no other company providing the same kind of products in Qatar. This gives the company a position in the market as it will attract many customers because it is unique in its products. Therefore, we will put the market prices and thus the company will enjoy the initial benefits in the market including a high demand of its products.

The other competitive advantage is our location which will be in Al- Sadd Club and Hammad Water Sports Complex. This will make it easier for our targeted customers as they will find our store in the places where they practise swimming. This is a competitive advantage as our customers will easily reach us and access our products. We will also have a competitive advantage of hiring the most proficient staff to serve in this company. The company will work hard to improve the staff during the job to ensure the best service. The staff will be well paid to ensure that the workers are motivated for work and serve the customers in the best way.

Marketing plan

Market research

The company intends to conduct more research through primary and secondary research. Primary research will be conducted in this field to check on all the statistics concerning our competitors and the services they offer. This will be done by using some of these researches that have already been done revealing who the main competitors are in Qatar. We have decided to give primary research much emphasis based on the fact that the company is new. We know that it is very important to get the correct information, otherwise it will be a cause of failure for the company. Competitor products will be analysed carefully to assess the customers preferences. When FINIS has the means to analyse the needs of the customers and their preferences , it will be possible for FINIS to compensate for any gap in the market that the competitor companies did not fill.

Secondary research has been conducted about the industry trends. Some data has been collected in countries where this business has already been done as in USA. This has greatly revealed the products and the store management strategies. We had done some contacts with the original company in USA to get information about business strategies. The management of FINIS Centre will also use all the means to ensure that the customer’s preferences are met within the company.

Legal factors

The company must work within the rules that are valid in Qatar including the minimum capital which is QAR 200,000. The company will also have to abide by the regulation that states 51% of the company ownership must be Qatari. The national laws also dictate that FINIS must keep 50% of the share capital obtained annually until the reserve rises to 50% of the company share capital. The company will also be registered at the Qatar Chamber of Commerce as governed by the Qatari rules.

Economic situation

Recently, the income level in Qatar is considered as the highest in the world. So the project prospects are promising to be in high levels and the people have the ability to buy such equipment of high quality to use while they are entertaining themselves at the swimming pools at hotels, Aqua park or any sports club.

Qatar imports most of its needs from outside like equipment, clothes , food and equipment related to sports as well. Qatar has major natural resources like gas and oil and its one of the largest natural producers in the world .Qatar is known worldwide for its gas as it is the best in the world and it has huge resources of natural gas . All these resources will help in building a strong economy in the future and it is expected to grow more and more in the future.

The economic situation in Qatar is favourable for the business as Qatar is ranked among the most prosperous nations in the world. Statistics revealed that the GDP of Qatar grew by 26% between 2004 and 2008. The prosperity of the nation is mainly based on the oil production and natural gases that are liquefied this is proved by the statistics that show that oil and gas production constituted 62% of Qatar’s GDP. Another advantage from the economic feasibility of the nation is the fact many external investors are willing to do business in Qatar. To uncover the market potentials , a market research is done. By doing so, there is a need to have a study of the market and relate it to the social and economic situations in Qatar.

Social cultural factors

Some important social cultural factors in Qatar include the fact that the social life in Qatar is very positive for every category of people to settle down and live a happy and tense - free life and people are free to do many things as if they were in their homelands and everybody is committed to the law, all these reasons help to start the new business. So there is a welcoming environment for expatriates as well as the citizens to have free activities as going to sport clubs and enjoying swimming in different locations both for men and women. FINIS stores will be located at Al- Sadd Club and Hamad Water Sports Complex.

Product

Our service is well received in the market based on the fact that many people are welcoming the original products of FINIS. We will work with customers directly in the selected locations in Alssad Club and Hamad Water Sports Complex and other new locations in the future when there is a need for it. We will provide them with the most modern clothes and swimming equipment to suit their tastes and demands according to age groups, preference and income. We will provide a wide variety of products related to the brand that satisfy all the needs of customers and so they do not need to look for any similar products in any other store as we provide all the equipment and clothes related to swimming in the best design and the best prices with high quality service. The products will include technical equipment, electronics which include stop watches and performance measurement equipment, heart rate monitors, underwater MP3. It also includes goggles, pool equipment, water polo, accessories and the media section which includes DVDs. The benefits that the customers will get from buying our products include receiving sales in certain periods of the year. The other attractive feature about our products is the fact that the staff are aware of the Qatari trends and preferences.

Customers

Our target groups will be all age groups of people who love sport and swimming- sport lovers of both genders than any other age group. FINIS is intended to be established to satisfy the needs of these age groups and help them to find the best quality of all their needs from different companies that produce the best in the sport clothes and equipment. FINIS customers are mostly young group between the ages of 14 to 35 and also the target groups can be found in different places as school, collages, universities, and workplaces.
Competition

The business in quite new in Qatar and has no direct competitors at the moment, however, some of the indirect competitors in the market are some sport stores which provide some swimming suits and marine equipment as Sport Corner and Galaxy Sport. However, FINIS is the first in Qatar to have such a variety of products in the same store. For example Factory Outlet and Galaxy Sports are considered as major competitors. They are located in Doha in different places as in the Market area , the City Centre and Villageo. However, they will only compete with certain products and a small percentage of customers as they do not have the variety of our products in FINIS. Also they will compete with us in these locations but they will not compete us in Alsadd area and Hamad Water Sports Complex. The following table shows the competitors :

By studying the above chart , FINIS has many competitive advantages over its competitors because it is a brand new store in Qatar. So people would like to discover what does FINIS mean and what products does it sell. The opening of the stores is expected to be a noticeable event in Qatar because there is no similar store. The price , quality and company image are globally famous and so it will encourage many customers to change to the new store as they will know more about it through an advertising campaign. The high class brand will attract mostly the well off people who will be happy to pay for high quality items. The other advantage that FINIS has is the fact that it is centrally located in Doha where the customers can easily contact our stores. The company concentrates on promotion as a way to make the company popular in Qatar.

Niche

The niche of the company is related to a world famous brand so the unique products of FINIS with the high quality and diversity of the products would be the factors that would establish the distinct image of the company in Qatar. It will be different from any other sports stores according to the fact that it is comprising the most and highly quality products and equipments in the field of sports and swimming. It has an image that wouldn't be competed by the current stores in Qatar. The niche is also identified as a result of the fact that people are always in need of sports clothes and swimming equipment.

Marketing strategy

Promotion

Initially FINIS Centre will not have to use advertising or other promotional services as our company is at its initial stages of establishment. Our target group is sport people and the best way to approach them is to visit them and offer them the products until they are aware of the advantages of the new product.

The marketing strategy depends on having an advertising campaign at the start of the business in the local newspapers, advertising posters in malls and sport clubs. By doing so the initial start would be completed , then a web site in Arabic language would be established for the company and customers can get more information about the products and promotions as they will be asked to be on a mailing list according to their wish to be informed about new products and events related to sports. By doing so we can establish a relationship with customers that will progress in the future to have more loyal customers.

We will advertise our business in the media as newspapers and TV as well as websites related to our products to create more awareness of the products that we offer. This will be effective as the company will already have built a name for itself. The internet is also among the main promotional tools that FINIS Centre intends to use as a promotional tool. This is especially preferred for it serves the widespread purpose of reaching many people in nearly very little cost.

The company will also promote its services by offering visits for well known athletes . This will attract the hesitant customers to try our products.

The promotion campaign at the beginning will aim at getting people to know more about FINIS as a new store company in Doha. FINIS supports various advertising and promotional strategies to increase the demand in the market and it will use many marketing strategies at the first period to make the people in Qatar accustomed to the new locations. For example, the local newspapers as well as ads in posters in malls and sport clubs will be used for the promotion campaign. The media campaign will be launched at the first three months to stay close to the customers mind and heart at the start of the project. We can also every other month publish brochures about our services and products and distribute it at the local clubs and swimming pools to increase the local people awareness of the new store as the best sports brand store in Qatar. Another method that can be used is trade shows and word of mouth from one customer to another because they will be interested in the unique products and will ask their friends about the store where they got it from. So the word of mouth is very important in the process of promotion.

The company management understands the company image can serve to make or break the company. The image is especially important as FINIS Centre to ensure having more and more customers. The promotion campaigns will try hard to give an image of FINIS as the most powerful company in its field and customers will see the company as the ultimate limit to their aspirations of sports products. So there is no need to look for any other place or store to get these products while FINIS is ready to make available all customers needs.

The logo of the store will reflect the image of the products and it will be attractive and unique from any other sports stores. The interior design of the stores will be very attractive and appealing to customers' needs as it reflects the most modern style of interior design by using the best quality material and elements of design. The loyal customers will be granted a card that help them to get a certain discount for purchases and so retain more customers.

Promotional Budget

The promotional campaigns would almost cost QR 60,000. The promotion before start up will go into the start up budget but the ongoing promotion would be going into the operation plan budget.

|Ads |
|Newspapers advertisements |QR 40,000 |
| Brochures in the malls and streets |QR 40,000 |
|Total |QR 80,000 |

Pricing

The method of pricing that the company shall use is skimming. This will initially be used as the company has a substantial competitive advantage. The management understands that with time this idea will attract new competition and this might lead to a slight decrease in the prices so as to cope with the competition. The pricing policy for FINIS depends on the costs with a high profit margin. The prices would be in average higher than the competitors in many products and that is due to the fact that the quality that FINIS concentrate on makes it impossible to have less prices than the competitors. The customers are aware of the difference in quality, so most of them would not make their buying decision without taking into consideration the quality of the products. So the price strategy will depend on providing high quality with average prices. That strategy fits with the competitive analysis and although it is somewhat higher than competitive companies, the customers will highly value the quality and international brands as well as the credit policy of the company by giving credit points for every purchase over QR 500 to get an item in the promotion strategy. Our prices are slightly higher than those of the companies that give us indirect competition. This is based on the fact that unlike these companies, we offer our products with the highest quality they can ever get for money.

Proposed Location

FINIS is the one of the most known brands . FINIS will be found in populated and easily accessible areas for example, Al- Sadd club and Hamad Swimming Complex. These locations are important to customers as they will help find their needs on the spot. The location is convenient and is equipped with car parks and enough space for customers to go around the products. The location is near to Alsadd Club and Hamad Swimming Complex and it will reflect an image of high quality products. That is a very important aspect to express the image of FINIS. Other competitors are located far away and that is better for the company's growth in the future.
Distribution Channels

The products will be sold in retail stores that provide the needs of customers on the spot in different locations in Alsadd Club and Hammad Water Sports Complex. FINIS will be opened at these two locations because of their importance regarding water sports and they are known for everyone in Qatar. They are suitable location for FINIS sorts of merchandise.

Sales Forecast

The sales forecast for this business shows that the project will be generating profits as it is in high demand especially in the summer months when people want to go out for excursions and swimming in the sea. So the demand will be so high that we expect to generate profit although there are start up expenses. The worst case may be that the sales will not be enough to generate profit in the first two months and that is due to the span of time for people to get informed about the new business by different methods including word of mouth from one customer to another and the means of media discussed in the promotion section .

Supply chain:

FINIS will work with business to customer ( B2C ) which will help to manage all aspects of the supply chain across all the branches to get an effective and efficient system of supply chain.

Decoration

FINIS has a very attractive decorations which goes in line with the international stores. The decorations will cost QR 100,000 and it will reflect the unique image of FINIS worldwide and in Qatar. The decorations will be artistic and have colorful images of the marine life and scenes from the seas and oceans with special lighting system with blue and white colors.

Sales Projection:

FINIS will begin in the first year at a limited scale so that there will be an anticipation for any loss as not to be big for any unexpected circumstances. However, FINIS expects to have a better growth in the following two years at a rate of 30% because of the increase of the demand and the increase of the number of customers.

Operational plan

Production

FINIS must make sure that all the staff know the products of the company. This will require training period and while- the – job training. Moreover , the workers must go into the details of learning all the features of the products. This will help to ensure that the marketing techniques is helpful and suitable for customers . The in – training will be helpful for the company to not lose extra money in training the staff. The aim of the training is to help the staff members to get the basic customer service and be sure that it is better than the competitor companies. The operation plan for FINIS has many factors including the location, equipment, people , processes and surrounding people. The location is mostly suitable for customers and the abundant variety of products will enable them to choose from a wide variety of extra quality products. The staff consist of two salespersons and a cashier in the two locations and two employees in the main stores with a driver at the start of the project. The processes will be computerized to register any selling of items and so know how many of a certain item are there in the store. During the period from July 1st, 2012 to October 1st 2012 , the stores will be rented and the decoration is done as well. In November and December , the equipment will start to arrive to Doha port and then to the main stores where they will be entered to the coding system and the computerized systems will be ready for bar codes. The 1st January 2013 will be the launch date of the project .At the opening day on the 1st January 2013, an opening party will be arranged to inform people about the start of the project.

Quality control

The quality of the products will be kept under check by ensuring constant appraisal on the products. This will ensure that the products is kept under check and it is of high quality to establish a reputation of FINIS as the best quality sports and swimming equipment.

Customer service

Customer service is very important for the success of FINIS . The workers should show that they are patient with customers and listen carefully to the needs and requirements of the clients and help them in choosing the suitable product or the suitable size. They should be polite and honest.

Because we want to be the first choice for our customers, we want them to find the best quality products and the best customer service at our stores.

Location

The company will be located in Doha which is the capital city. The show rooms will be in two places, at Alsadd Club and Hammad Water Sports Complex . Most of Qatar's population lives in Doha so it is the best place and we have chosen the two locations as they are the destination of our target customers. The identified location is two show rooms each one has a total area of 250 sq m. This area is suitable to be a show room of FINIS products. The business hours for FINIS will be 10 hours a day, from 8-12 in the morning and from 4 – 10 in the evening.

Legal requirements

There are many positive sides in the legal environment in Qatar because Qatar has improved its investment regulations according to the world standards. Qatar has improved also its trade and investment laws. There are many positive aspects to Qatar’s business with the entire world. Qatari companies and customers are highly interested in working with worldwide companies. Qatar's currency is stable and is correlated with US dollar .Qatar , as many countries in the world , has some requirement for foreign companies working in Qatar. For example, non-Qataris must get a valid work permit for limited period which can be renewed when it expires from the Department of Labor for any worker. The license will be obtained from the municipality of Doha and the permits of workers from the medical and health authorities after having a regular health check up.
The trade mark law (No. (9) 2002 requires that we register our trademark at the Trademark Office. This will serve for ten years and it will be renewed every after ten years. The Copy right law ((No. (7) 2002 will protect the original literary and artistic work by our company.

Personnel

We are planning to establish FINIS with around eight staff and one manager. FINIS will also hire an accountant. The task will be to control all the management operations in the company. The company standard indicates that the personnel should be highly trained and skilled in marketing and customer service. They should have good appearance and effective communication skills. The company largely considers the customer satisfaction which must be attained as an objective. The company will get employees by placing advertisements on the skills requirements. An interview panel will then be formed and they will have to be well informed on the kind of staff required. Then they will be hired and trained for the job. The workers will be trained at the methods of the job during the first two weeks and then they can start the job and work according to their job descriptions. They also know what benefits they can get every month as a salary and in the case of overtime because there are seasons as Christmas and the Eid as well as during the summer season when there is a high demand for our products. At some peak times we need to hire some contract workers for bringing the staff from the port and storing it in the storehouse. It is expected that there will be no or very small percentage of turnover because the employees get similar salaries and benefits as those in other companies in the same field and we also provide a suitable housing conditions and transport for them. The following chart shows the functional structure of the company:

[pic]

The pay structure

To start with each of the eight staff will be paid QR 5,000 per person. The managers will be paid QR 7,000. The accountant shall be paid QR 4,000 per month for the first year. Each one of the staff is aware of the responsibilities that should be done because they are trained at the beginning phase.

Suppliers

Suppliers are arranged with from the source and original FINIS company in USA to deliver all the goods to Doha. But we need to buy the equipment and decorations of the show rooms from local dealers such as Jaida group which will supply the company with furniture and fittings.

Finally, our continuous supplier will be FINIS- USA as we will keep our relations with the mother – company.

Credit policies

Our products shall be paid on the spot by cash or credit cards, cheques are not accepted. By doing so we can generate the cash needed for daily and monthly expenses and pay for wages and rent of the show rooms and then generate a profit. In the future, cheques can be accepted depending on the customers status.

Management and organization

The business shall be managed by the manager who will be managing the two show rooms and the main office. The manager is a skilful manager who can manage all the details and bring success to the company. He will design the working schedule and all the activities in the company. The manager should be knowledgeable of the Qatari market and customer trends to transfer the knowledge to the other people of the staff. The manager should also be able to motivate the staff to implement the mission and vision of the company. The manager is expected all the time to be optimistic and self motivated to be a model for all the staff in the company. In fact, the manager should have transformational qualities so that all the other members develop the standards of the job.

Solvency ratio

Solvency ratio = (After Tax Net Profit + Depreciation) / Total liabilities

=0.4

Conclusion

FINIS is considered a successful business because it will make profits in the first year and give back the bank loan. The future of this business will be much better in the next years because of the rise of the demand because of the high standards of living for the people in Qatar. Swimmers will welcome the products because they are of high value and of international trade mark in good prices. It will meet their needs in the locations chosen for the business. The disadvantages are limited to a sudden decrease in sales for unexpected reasons or the rise of a strong competitor in the same locations. The chances for implementing the project are high because it depends on real estimates of the economic situation and the available resources.
