Within UREC and really any gym that i’ve been in there is always a set of rules that people tend to follow for the most part. Some of these rules are clearly written somewhere throughout the gym, but other are unwritten rules that people try to obey. On a Monday afternoon in UREC, there was an average amount of students occupying the gym. One part of the gym that seemed to be crowded was the long dumbbell rack that covered up the back wall from end to end and the flat benches in the back by the large wall mirrors.
Over the course of a any workout, it’s a common rule and widely known rule to wipe down the equipment that was used, in this instance it is an unwritten rule and the area of use is the flat bench. A male JMU student in a red t-shirt was using dumbells on the flat bench, after a period of time using the equipment he finished he sets. This male student was doing different types of Olympic lifts such as hang clean and deadlifts and throughout his entire workout that day, you could hear him dropping or slamming the weights to the platform, the noise he was making was much louder than the rest of the people dropping weights. While this male student was slamming the weights you could see that it was bothering others using the gym around him because they knew that slamming the weights was something you don’t do. This male student was almost throwing the wight to the ground, you could hear the slamming of the weights from almost any part of the gym that's how loud it was.
