...Fast Food Workers’ Rights At a glance it is easy to see that the winning formula for the high economic success in the fast food industry is comprised of cheap food and cheap labor. Their ability to sell food at a low price in a matter of minutes caters to families or individuals limited on time or money, and in many cases both of these factors are of equal importance. Inordinately the consumption of low cost labor in the fast food industry has resulted in an underpaid and under protected workforce. In many ways limitations on workers’ rights in the fast food industry have been instrumental in the high profitability of the corporations that dominate it; however, the formation of unions or other sources of support for fast food workers would have implications on the price and/or quality of the final products sold. These implications, in particularly the price of the food, would force a complete restructure of the expectations and needs of customers who currently frequent the restaurants. A key element in sourcing low cost labor has been the excessive employment of teenagers. The fast food industry has exploited the needs and vulnerability of teenagers in order to create a high turnover workforce that is willing to accept low wages and easily taught. The industry has capitalized on assembly line production models, which require little skills from the workers; however, the machinery necessary for these conditions is often times dangerous and violates OSHA guidelines for...

...The current food crisis: The current world food situation is demonstrating the increasing demand for food on a global scale. This food crisis is consequently causing an increasing gap between the rich and poor, developing world and the developed world. This gap includes the amount and quality of food that is being consumed, shown through North America and Europe’s increasing problems of obesity associated with obesity. The European Union Common Agricultural policy enforced in the 1990s and early 2000s an order to reduce food production and reduce leftovers or waste. Once the Cold War was over, Europe had less need for large storage of food as war seemed less likely to happen. At the same time there is an increasing population of those living in LEDCs. These people are poorer and hungrier and as a consequence suffer severe health problems such as malnutrition and starvation. The global food prices rose in 2008. One of the products which had a large increase was rice which resulted in riots in Africa and Asia. Even people in MEDC’s spent a large portion of their income on food and daily essentials. As a result, people either cut down on quality of food, amount of food or spend more money trying to still afford the luxuries of high quality food. However the increase in food prices would have had an effect upon the rest of the global or local economies. Green Revolution, a possible temporary solution? ...product harm crisis and identify the factors that contribute to a product harm crisis. I will compare and contrast the findings of the various studies on the product harm crisis. I conclude by synthesizing my analysis of the research to develop and support a recommendation for an organization handling a product harm crisis. Product-Harm Defined Product-harm crisis can be defined as an occasion when a product or brand is faulty, substandard, contaminated or dangerous to the general public. The crisis could have an effect on the whole product category or a subset of the group. In most instances, this crisis prompts a product recall on a voluntary basis by the organization or forced by external regulators. In today's market, product-harm crises are often global events. The short-term consequences of a product harm crises are lost revenues and the expenses associated with product recalls. The long-term effect of these crises is damaged reputation to the affected brand and organization. The key challenge for organizations confronted with a product harm crisis is to restore consumer confidence. Examples of Product-Harm An example of this product harm crisis involved Kraft Foods Australia‘s peanut butter division. Kraft was notified of a possible link between its peanut butter and salmonella poison outbreak. This brand of peanut butter was recalled and removed from stores. ...Whenever an epic crisis happens or strikes these people are ready and prepared for it. By using the socialism system there would be no red tape to go through because you will be dealing with the government and middle man. In this case wiping out the middle man and politics that a state may have to go through is eliminated. The state would already be dealing with the government and after analyzing the damage and estimating how much the state may need in funding they can go right to the source. The Government also has the ability to speak right with the President of the United States and he is able to declare it a state of federal disaster. When this decision is made it is then easier to know which funding to ask for. In an emergency situation a socialist system would be the best to respond. ...TECNOLÓGICO DE MONTERREY | THUNDERBIRD Production Operation Management TOYOTA: THE ACCELERATOR CRISIS Study Case Report | | 1. What were the drivers of Toyota´s accelerators crisis? Why was Toyota facing a recall crisis? The drivers of Toyota crisis were Strategic, structural and cultural issues. At the strategic level, the cost reduction strategy added with the increasing of the output volume strategy caused a decrease in quality. Furthermore, the structure of Toyota (HQs in Japan and not in the U.S) impacted Toyota’s response to customer’s claims, taking a long time to address Toyota consumer’s concerns, and in fact was one of the most criticized issues during the crisis. In other words, the company took a considerable time before recalling units that meant life losses and significant economic impacts. At the cultural managerial level, there were difficulties driven by how Japanese address the situation vs. how Americans deal with the problems. The company lost its original philosophy due to different cultural orientations between Japanese headquarters and North American subsidiaries. The fact that Toyota was recovering from its last unit’s recall (due to motors leaking oil) plus the beginning of the global financial crisis, ended up yielding a deviation of the original long term plan to look after the U.S subsidiary´s financial performance, triggering a swap in the three main pillars of Toyota (Safety, Quality and Volume). 2.
