...March 16th, 1915, was my 17th birthday. The past couple years my family had been terrifyingly broke, barely affording food, diapers, and let alone a birthday present or two. The depression had hit my family hard, but in the past couple months my father’s jewelry business had made a turn-around. I spent my birthday morning with him working in his story, Charlie’s Fine Jewels and Jewelry, when a tall, thin, beautiful blonde woman wearing shoes with tall heels that I’d never seen before and a long fur coat. The girl’s aura spoke class before she even opened her mouth. She greeted my father with a smile before walking around and observing the display cases. She stopped and admired a diamond necklace for a few minutes before waving my father...

...has been known for its quaint and charming houses and shops and for the beautiful countryside surroundings them, the promise of a park will do nothing to make up for the loss of the local architectural style. Jessica Ramirez does not believe that Toms Green’s idea is best for the town. Jessica thinks that the restoration of the buildings will cost a lot of money, and but “could turn into two-million-dollar debt.” The restorations will be expensive but it would attract more tourist to see new building and also the tax money would come back to the city of east Ville. Unlike if there was a park they wouldn’t get any money back what so ever while creating the park. Jessica and the city would waste money on buying swing sets, seeds, benches, picnic tables and more. The park wouldn’t raise any money so therefore they could never make back the money they wasted. Tom Green has a different idea then Jessica Ramirez. He believes that restoration of the buildings would be better than building a park. Tom Green thinks if the keep the building it would put east Ville on the map and will attract more tourists. Well, I hope everything is going as good as this year festivities are going. I am proud to inform you of our progress report on this year’s annual outreach to our single women and what we can do to make it better. I would like to start by thanking you for allowing this type of event to take place because I know how much work goes into something like this. I mean moving our entire restaurant outdoors can be challenging but with all of the volunteers and staff helping the cause it is very rewarding as well. Ever since I started this job and found out that this is what you guys do every year, I was thrilled to be able to take part in it. I have learned so much from you and your restaurant in these past months and I am sure that most of it will go with me throughout my life, even beyond my job. I hope this year, like all the other successful years, will be just as great and hopefully many will be moved by this event. Let’s get on with the updates thus far: * Half off all menu listings * Our alcohol section will be void but we will serve a dessert wine if desired * Better children’s activities so that single mothers can participate as well ^ (Our whole event is based on this) ^ As you know, I am a very creative individual and I enjoy making pretty much anything...

...party with the music playing with no care in the world, the air was fresh and crisp like a newly ripened apple, all of the children playing in the grass having fun, the adults sitting around the picnic table doing what they do, and in the center of it all was a table and at the center of that table was me and my uncles; Rene, Joel, Henrique. We were just talking, in Spanish, about how full we were with the food and like an anonymous wind blew him in out of nowhere, a man stood in the middle of the party like a statue short on one side, tipsy, and one half of his shirt tucked in and bottle in hand, with glazed eyes he glared at us almost in a panorama. Looking like he was about to keel over he opened his, what I know now as a gaping hole of a mouth, the second he spoke nothing but hate flew from his mouth racial slurs came out targeted at everyone at the party even my youngest cousin got cursed at by this vulgar man. At the end of his tantrum he collapsed on the grass, at that moment I rushed to see who my racial attacker was and before me lying unconscious reeking of booze and other fluids was a white male with a beard, which looked like he never heard of a razor before. Clawing his way through the crowd of relatives my uncle Rene picked up the man on two his shoulder to a lone picnic table and set him down, he told us to get a cool bottle of water for the man, but of course we all refused, why would we want to help a man that so bluntly insulted our elders and our children for...

...Fall - A Time Transition The fall season has many meanings for me. It is a time of transition that takes us from warm balmy days to the more harsh weather of winter. It's a time that takes us from the spectacle of nature in full bloom, to nature in hibernation. The signs of this transition are everywhere. The vivid colors of summer fade away, the color of the sky changes from deep blue to gray. The green fades from the grass and plants lose their blossoms. The leaves on the trees turn color, and lose their grip. Insects disappear. It's the tune of year that signifies the end of summer and vacations. No more picnics, swimming, baseball, tennis, and a myriad of other activities that most of us enjoy in the outdoors. It signals that during the next few months we will have to endure weather conditions that are not conducive to spending quality time outdoors enjoying nature. The knowledge of this seasonal period of transition awakens, in me, a more keen awareness of my surroundings than at any other time of year. The deeper appreciation comes from knowing that the good weather days are coming to an end. The fall season conjures up all sorts of analogies in my mind. For example, football and basketball games are divided into four quarters, a dollar is divided by four quarters, the calendar year is divided into four quarters, and the human life span might also be divided into four 20 year parts, assuming that we live an average of 80 years. In all these examples, the third period precedes...

...outing, almost like a picnic. These days, it has changed a lot. Your kid can probably tell the menu of the nearest food joint faster than he can spell the alphabet. It’s not just about the kids. The entire concept of eating out has gone to whole different level because of our busy lives. Most families prefer to eat out as it saves a lot of work. But, in that process they forget the health risks they might be facing. So, you need to understand why a home cooked meal does more good than the quick meal at a restaurant nearby. The things that go in The reason a home cooked meal wins over the one from an eat-out is because of the good quality ingredients that go in. Firstly, you know where your produce comes from and you also can make sure that it’s completely clean and fresh. At restaurants, the emphasis is on the taste and to make food taste better lot of other ingredients that go in. ...meal you spent hours preparing. You are so excited to finally get to eat after a long day of hard work. Then when you attempt to take your first bite and all of a sudden a housefly lands on the top of your food. Today I’m going to explain to you about my pet peeve about houseflies. We all have had some sort of run-in with houseflies. During the Summer and Fall is when I tend to go to war with them. Preview: I will explain why houseflies annoy me so much, why you should take caution with them, and some possible home remedies to help you fight against them. First, I will tell you why houseflies annoy me so much. It seems no matter where you go there is a nasty fly trying to bother you. You can be trying to enjoy a picnic with your family and then all of a sudden a swarm of flies start attacking, or you could even be trying to eat the last cinnamon roll left in the box then a fly dives right into it. I’m sure you all can relate to me and agree flies are annoying. Second, I will tell you why you should take caution when dealing with houseflies. Did you know that each time a housefly lands it throws up? They do this so they can decompose the food before swallowing it and if you thought it couldn’t get any worse they carry tons of bacteria. So the next time a fly lands of your food you might want to think twice about eating it. Lastly, I will give you some ideas of home remedies to fight these tasty creatures. One of my most favorite remedies is to light a lavender candle. It is said...

...INTRODUCTION A sandwich is a food item, typically consisting of two or more slices of bread with one or more fillings between them, or one slice of bread with a topping or toppings, commonly called an open sandwich. Sandwiches are a widely popular type of lunch food, typically taken to work or school, or picnics to be eaten as part of a packed lunch. They generally contain a combination of salad vegetables, meat, cheese, and a variety of sauces or savoury spreads. The bread can be used as it is, or it can be coated with any condiments to enhance flavour and texture. They are widely sold in restaurants and cafes. Bread has been eaten with any meat or vegetables since Neolithic times. For example, the ancient Jewish sage Hillel the Elder is said to have placed meat from the Paschal lamb and bitter herbs between two pieces of matzah (or flat, unleavened bread) during Passover. During the Middle Ages, thick slabs of coarse and usually stale bread, called "trenchers", were used as plates. After a meal, the food-soaked trencher was fed to a dog or to beggars, or eaten by the diner. Trenchers were the precursors of open-face sandwiches. The immediate cultural precursor with a direct connection to the English sandwich was to be found in the Netherlands of the 17th century, where the naturalist John Ray observed that in the taverns beef hung from the rafters "which they cut into thin slices and eat with bread and butter laying the slices upon the butter"— explanatory specifications...
