...http://www.aksnewarkde.com/StudyHabits.html GOOD STUDY HABITS... ...are the key to keeping up your grades Remember: “If you improve your study habits, improving your grades will be easier…” 1. Make a list. It all starts with ‘planning’. Make a list of all the things you have to do. Break it down into smaller chunks. Then check off your accomplishments as you go. 2. Do the hard stuff first…then the easy. Put your energy into the harder assignments…when you have less energy or your brain is tired, you can then tackle the easier tasks. 3. Proper study space. Make a place to study. When you use the same place to study, day after day, your body becomes trained. You will focus your concentration more quickly there. 4. Snack. Don’t try to study on an empty stomach. If you’re hungry, you’ll be distracted. So grab an apple or some carrot sticks. Just avoid dairy products or turkey, which tend to be natural sedatives (make you sleepy). 5. No distractions. Turn off the stereo, TV or radio. Silence is the best environment to study in. 6. Study buddy. Don’t overlook the value of a study partner. Quiz each other, compare notes and practice testing. You can also help one another from becoming bored. But avoid distracting each other from what you are there to do. 7. Write it down. Experts agree that the more senses you use to absorb information, the better you’ll remember it. Don’t just read about what you’re...

...He instigates that studies serve us by giving us pleasure, by assisting us with self improvement and enhancing our capability in profession. He considers the evils of excess studying as over reading leads to laziness, vanity and precocity. Education extracts the best in us and experience further perfects it because experience teaches us the prudence to consider only the useful information and eliminate unnecessary details. After discussing the function of education, Bacon moves on to imbibe the right attitude towards acquisition of knowledge. Cunning people dislike reading as knowledge might teach them those lessons that might be inimical or contradictory to their self-interests and they are too rigid to change themselves. Destitute people admire education as possessing it is a goal for them. However, the right approach towards studies is to adopt and comply with it which can be possible only after careful observation and experience. Bacon advises to acquire knowledge neither to argue or attack nor to deliberately display it as jewellery, but to train the mind to be logical and sensible. He divides the books into three categories: those to be read in parts (like dictionary, law books), those to be read entirely out of necessity and those to be read with care, diligence and sincerity (holy books). Certain books are to be read out of necessity in order to support an argument or to solve a problem, but these books do not serve humanity at large. Otherwise a good book is like...

...parents for their young children to work just to support their family. But still there are young people who are determined and motivated to continue their studies despite of their undesirable situation. They are trying hard in their studies for them to avail scholarships available in different colleges and universities programmed for deserving students but others unluckily did not avail due to limited slots given. How these students continue with their quest living with quality of life? Are there any options available for them? The most common phrase we heard from common people is: we can continue with our studies later but this time we have to work first, let’s be practical. The focus of today’s students is to enroll for one or two years then apply for work because the minimum requirements is college level but soon they will realize how important is education and most probably the realization came in late of their lives, that’s the real thing. People spend too much in shorter plans and they did not focus on the longer one. Parents also lacks of motivation for them to encourage their students to continue. Why?... because they didn’t have it during their time. So, this time what can we do to resolve this kind of situation? What if there are lots of students who are determined to pursue their dreams. Can they sustain their studies until they have it? It has been observed here in Consolacion Community College since its opening on 2010 that there are lots of students who are poor...

...Theories of Study Habits: INTRODUCTION: Rationale and importance. Learning is very important. As human beings we are expected to learn to be able to cope with the new generation. To be able to learn effectively, one must have a good study habits. Study habits are the ways that you study- the habits that you have formed during your school years. Study habits include being organized, keeping good notes, reading your textbook, listening in class, and working everyday. However, there are factors that can hinder students to have a good study habits, which are the learning environment; socioeconomic status; the teacher; nutrition and students’ motivation to study. Study habits are learning tendencies that enable students to work privately. Azikiwe (1998) describes the study habit as “the adopted way and manner a student plans his private readings, after classroom learning so as to attain mastery of the subject”. According to her, “good study habits are good assets to learners because they (habits) assist students to attain mastery in areas of specialization and consequent excellent performance, while opposite constitute constraints to learning and achievement leading to failure”. Good (1998) define the term study habits as: The student’s way of study whether systematic, efficient or inefficient etc”. Going by 9 this definition it literally means that good study habit produces positive academic performance while inefficient study habit leads to academic failure. Your study habits...

Particular attention is paid to the importance of biases that are potentially present because the number of hours that are worked is endogenously chosen by the individual. A “naive” OLS regression, which indicates that a positive and statistically significant relationship exists between hours-worked and grade performance, highlights the potential importance of endogeneity bias in this context. Although a fixed effects estimator suggests that working an additional hour has an effect on grades which is quantitatively very close to zero, we suggest that there are likely to exist causes of endogeneity which are not addressed by the fixed effects estimator. Indeed, an instrumental variables approach, which takes advantage of unique institutional details of the work-study program at this school, indicates that working an additional hour has a negative and quantitatively large effect on grade performance at this school. The results suggest that, even if results appear “reasonable,” a researcher should be cautious when drawing policy conclusions about the relationship between hours-worked...

...If you’re planning to head off to college soon, you need to know what to expect. If you major in English and take advanced literature classes, you’ll find those classes much more difficult than literature classes you took in high school. You’ll be writing more papers that are longer than what you had to write before. You’ll find test questions harder. Certainly, you don’t want to travel all the way from New York to a university in California only to find that you have no idea how you’re going to make it through classes. Disciplined study habits are essential to succeed in school. Someone who studies for every test at 10 PM the night before and types up long papers the day before they are due will probably not find his grades to be too high in college. You may be attending a college with a world-class biology program, but you probably won’t be passing a biology test if you only study from midnight to 3 AM and take the test at 8 AM. Learn to study in small increments long before tests occur and work on papers early in advance. At the beginning of the semester, write all your test and project dates into a planner (or in your iPhone if you’re cool like that). That you way you won’t be caught realizing you have two tests the next day and a 6-page paper due the day after. Talk with students who succeed in their grades and ask what strategies they use. Also, evaluate the tools that help you best for studying. Flashcards? Mnemonic devices? Crazy songs with terms in them? Take advantage...

...Study abroad plan Nowadays, many people like to study abroad. Studying abroad is often considered as a great opportunity which will lead to bright future in one's ride of passage. Not only can we learn different cultures and knowledge from foreign countries, studying abroad can also enrich our lives. I plan to study the International Business by this program in Korea which last for one month. The program in Korea provides contemporary educational experiences of high quality to prepare students to face the challenges from a dynamic world and to meet their responsibilities within a global society. In my opinion, studying abroad is very important to me. Because your eyes are opened to the world. We often grow up thinking that our way of doing things is the only way, or sometimes the best way. But living in a new culture helps us realize new ways of doing things, and also helps us to see that even though we are different, we are all human. And in many cases, not only will you get to know the natives of the country you are visiting; you may get to know classmates from all over the world. The most obvious personal challenge to overseas study is real-life use of a different language. While a person can study a foreign language in his or her own country, it cannot compare with constant use of the language in academic and everyday life. There is no better opportunity to improve second-language skills than living in the country in which it is spoken. Moreover...

...UNDERSTANDING EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION ABSTRACT The study examined the ranked importance of motivational factors of employees at The Ohio State University's Piketon Research and Extension Center and Enterprise Center. The hand-delivered descriptive survey addressed ten motivating factors in the context of employee motivation theory. Findings suggest interesting work and good pay are key to higher employee motivation. Carefully designed reward systems that include job enlargement, job enrichment, promotions, internal and external stipends, monetary, and non-monetary compensation should be considered. AUTHOR James R. Lindner Research and Extension Associate The Ohio State University Piketon Research and Extension Center Piketon, Ohio Internet address: lindner.16@osu.edu JOURNAL Journal of Extension www.joe.org June 1998 // Volume 36 // Number 3 // Research in Brief // 3RIB3 Introduction to Motivation At one time, employees were considered just another input into the production of goods and services. What perhaps changed this way of thinking about employees was research, referred to as the Hawthorne Studies, conducted by Elton Mayo from 1924 to 1932 (Dickson, 1973). This study found employees are not motivated solely by money and employee behavior is linked to their attitudes (Dickson, 1973). The Hawthorne Studies began the human relations approach to management, whereby the needs and motivation of employees become the primary focus of managers (Bedeian, 1993)...

This study was taken from 17148 Harvard alumni. Every part of the participant’s physical activity was looked at including walking, going up and down stairs and sports play. Highly active participants had less of a chance of developing Colorectal Cancer then those who were moderately active. However, increased physical activity had no effect on protecting rectal cancer. | This is relevant because it shows us that with less physical activity there is a greater chance illness will occur in the longterm. | 1. ...Q: What is the definition of "study habits"? A: The definition of study habits is the habitual practices one uses to help them study and learn. Good study habits can help students achieve and/or maintain good grades. Q: How do you study better? A: Effective studying requires thinking positively, studying in a quiet area, rewriting notes, playing memory games and remaining healthy. Students also need to take breaks and reward themselves periodically. To think in a positive manner, students must think about their talents and skills. Negative and defeatist attitudes must be dispelled from the mind. Students also need to avoid comparing their achievements and successes with other people. Getting away from distractions is imperative. For instance, using a computer when taking notes can lead to playing games or surfing the Internet. Using a notebook instead of a computer helps a person focus better. However, listening to a favorite song on an iPod can motivate students to study better. Libraries and quiet off-campus spots are suitable places to learn. Eating a healthy diet is important because the vitamins and nutrients ensure maximum energy when studying. Certain herbs, such as ginko and ginseng, may enhance memorization skills. Exercise and healthy eating are effective aids when studying. Studying for an hour and taking a five-minute break fosters a more productive study session. Breaking chapters into sections avoids studying for long periods. Rewards can come in the...
