The Right to the Streets of Memphis written by Richard Wright , Forged by Fire written by Sharon M. Draper, and losing my job taught me it's better to be free then safe. It's better to be free then safe ,because when you're free you are unrestricted to all possibilities of life. Being free is something that every individual should experience.
Imagine its 4th quarter in the Championship game, your team is down by one touchdown, with 45 seconds remaining on the clock. Would you rather play it safe or blitz, not letting anything or anyone hold you back? In the book Rights to the Streets of Memphis Richard choose to be free. Even though Richard was scared of the neighborhood bullies, he still stood up for himself. He knew he would never have the freedom to walk the streets if he didn't fight back, he wanted to be safe ,but safe was him hiding and free as him earning the rights to…show more content… Flake, the author of Forged by Fire showed us that freedom was better than being safe.Gerald was safe when his aunt took him in because of his neglecting drug addict mother.He was now safe in that moment until his aunt died, and his mother and new stepfather regained custody.Than the same cycle repeated, with his abusive step father and baby sister in the place they called home. It wasn’t until Gerald got older ,and he was able to break from the stress and pain that he went through his whole life. He was able to free himself leaving him in charge of his own life and happiness. This year in September I lost my job after working there for 6 months as a birthday host. Normally that would have been devastating news, but I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders. By me working it kept me safe, because I was there all the time away from my friends, family, and social life. After I lost my job I realized that I was now free from stress, pressure, and long hours. I had now felt loose realizing from my personal experience, that freedom is the best path for self happiness, and relief
