Georgia O’keeffe was born November 15,1887. She was also the second of seven children. Georgia grew up on a farm near Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.
In Georgia’s young adult years, she studied at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1905 to 1906. She also went to the Art Students League in New York in 1907 to 1908. In 1912, her artistic practice shifted dramatically.
Alfred Stieglitz was an art dealer and internationally known photographer. Then he became Georgia’s husband. Georgia became known for her paintings of New York skyscrapers. She was recognized as one of America’s most important and successful artists.
In 1949, three years after Alfred’s death in 1946, Georgia made a permanent home in New Mexico. At the age of 73, she embarked on a new series
