“GMO’s Aren’t That Bad but Monsanto is Worse” is an online article written and published by Vice and rhetorically argues that Monsanto, a horrible agricultural-biotechnology company, is about unprofessional engineering and is pushing genetically modified organisms aka GMO’s on North America. Vice’s primary point is not only does Monsanto engineer and push unhealthy, hazardous non-organic seeds and foods on consumers, however, manipulatively takes advantage of the market. From the photos that were used, links to more statistics, and informal language is what makes this article convincing and reasonable yet compelling and concerning.

Of course, I held a strong position from first reading the title, but Vice truly exceeded themselves. I read extensively about this case and Vice offered the ideal “first read” to pick from for the attention of someone who has never heard about this issue. As far as “intended audience” goes, I myself believe, along with anyone who reads this piece is the intended audience. This case is such a massive one it affects an enormous part of our economy, well being, and lives, and it seems as if Vice just wanted the public to know. Apart from the data and links to develop the argument, Vice also intensifies the accuracy of persuasion by offering alternatives and encouraging readers to absorb more and make decisions for themselves if Monsanto is in fact is a biased company. “Grow your own fruit and vegetable gardens, support local organic farmers, and educate yourself on the subsidiary company and products that Monsanto creates or has a hand in.” ( Vice) Vice tests the audience, which ultimately encourages the readers. This article could be labeled as a rogerian argument, as it lets the audiences to make their own choices. “Know the facts, decide the root cause of the problems you are trying to solve, and start with yourself—the rest is just lip service.” (Vice) By saying this, Vice is revealed to the audience to do their research and not rely on those who preach but do not practice. Even further, this report is saying that the audience should rely on and believe Vice, as they practice what they preach and can recognize the false
