Gouverneur Kemble Warren won various awards and promotions after joining the military in 1850. After the start of the Civil War in 1861, Warren was appointed as a Lieutenant Colonel and won the battle of Bethel Church on 10th June. His victory earned him a promotion to the Colonel of the Regiment in August 1861. He commendably performed in various battles by defeating the overwhelming Confederate forces. It was after the Battle of Chancellorsville that General Warren received the most of his fame. On the second day of the battle, he realized the importance of Little Round Top position whereby he directed troops to hold Confederate forces before they attacked their enemies to create a strong defense for the Union army. At the battle of the Five
