Assumption: Crime locations for the prior day contribute to predictions of today’s crimes. 1. Using one color/symbol for each of the three sets of points, plot the following points that represent locations of interest. Answer: See attached graph paper 2. A. What points overlap?

(-3,-2) - Places of interest and Prediction of “after shock “points. B. Where would you deploy personnel or focus attention?
I would deploy personnel to points (4,9), (4,8), (4,7), (6,6) and (6,5). It has the highest concentration of all points. All of the other point should be carefully watched.

3. Working in groups, do the following: A) Identify a way data is being collected.
The data can be collected two ways, police reports and street cameras. B) What data is being collected?
The amount of people that visit the area each day. What times are they present? Are they loitering or using the services provided in the area. C) How would you use it to determine an outcome?
You can use it to see who’s in the area around the time an incident occurs, to narrow the amount of possible suspects and who to question. D) Identify the role you are in – police, industry, advertising, etc.
Police officers E) What are the pros and cons of this data set- what about the data might lead you to make an incorrect assumption?
Pros- possible decrease in the amount of time it takes to solve a case. Can list the people that are usually in the area.
Cons- Can cause you to completely lose the suspect. F) What assumptions are you making about the data that lead you to your conclusions?
