...recorded on the front of the Candidate Record Forms. Task Choices The most frequently attempted tasks were those based on Tourism (35% of work seen), Water on the Land (32%), the Coastal Zone (12%), Changing Urban Environments (7%) and the Living World (6%). Centres successfully contextualised the chosen task so that their candidates were able to produce valid investigations. There were some instances of centres attempting a task from the incorrect year of submission or deviating from the task, although not to a degree that invalidated the work produced. The Investigations Many investigations exceeded the guidance of 2000 words and some were far too long. This was particularly evident where very able candidates had access to ICT for the majority, or all, of the time allowed for the task. Centres are advised to ensure that all of their candidates keep to the guidance of 2000 words. Shorter and more succinct pieces of work tend to be more tightly focused, they are easier for centres to mark and they are more manageable from the candidates’ perspective. The more concise style has led, in some instances, to higher quality writing and more attention to detail. It has also been found that candidates who have produced excessively lengthy...

...Analysis of Advice to a Friend on Choosing Mistress Advice to a Friend on Choosing Mistress is a letter written by Benjamin Franklin in June 25th 1745 to his friend. The speech of this letter is essentially communicated to single men. The author gave advices particularly to his friend on which type of woman he should date if he is not ready to get married. Franklin preceded his lustful consulting by an apology for the marriage, recalling his friend how much carnal pleasures are favourable in a legal and recognized union. In his message, Franklin advises his friend that marriage is the best solution not for only sexual desires but also the undisputable source of solid happiness. Having suspicions that his friend would not follow his guidance, Franklin recommends him to choose older mistresses instead of younger ones and lists eight valuables reasons to better support his argument. Franklin commences his essay by presenting advantages of the marriage. He says ‘’ I know of no medicine fit to diminish the violent inclinations you mention…Marriage is the proper remedy. It is most natural state of man and therefore the state in which you can are most likely to find solid happiness’’. Through those sentences, Franklin seems to estimate that from a masculine’ view, one of the main advantages of the marriage is to bring pacification toward requirements of the flesh. The recipient of the letter who was the friend of the author seemed to be looking for a situation in which he...

...Short Paragraph on My Mother for Kids (382 Words) by Anushri Kapur My mother is the most important person in my life. Not only did she carry me for nine months but she continues to support and love me regardless of what I have put her through to bring me up. So far my mother has the greatest impact in my life. Many people have come and passed but she keeps by my side helping and advising me on all the important values of a good life. As I watch her struggle to bring all my three siblings and me up I can only hope to be such a strong and hardworking person myself. She diligently takes care of our family while still running her business. She has shown us that with hard work and determination anything is possible. My mother is patient and when she puts her heart on something, she doesn’t give up until she sees results. My mother runs several successful businesses and is able to juggle between her business and taking care of us. This is something I can only hope to have. My mother and I are close and I normally go to her for advice. She has taught me a lot and has helped me become a better person in life. She is intelligent and knows the solution to almost any problems I seek advice for. I have seen her struggle day to day to ensure we are all ok while still managing to run her demanding businesses. She is a strong woman and doesn’t let any setbacks hold her back. I remember a time when some burglars broke into one of her business and made away with almost everything...

...COLLEGE GUIDANCE COUNSELORS IN CALABARZON: IMPLICATIONS TO GUIDANCE PROGRAM AND SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION M. H. A. SEMIRA Batangas State University Gov. Pablo Borbon Campus I, Rizal Avenue, Batangas City ABSTRACT The study was undertaken to identify and assess the roles of college guidance counselors in CALABARZON and its implications to the schools guidance program and school administration. According to Erford (2003), the transformative roles of school counselors were leaders, advocates, collaborators, counselors and coordinators and data utilizers. Likewise, Kuhn (2004) explained that better understanding of the roles of guidance counselors diminished some of the misconceptions and confusions of the counselors’ roles. The above-mentioned roles were reflective of the American culture that is why the present study utilized the guidance counselors’ roles presented by De Jesus (2006) which was based on Philippine context. Findings revealed that the guidance counselors highly recognized their roles as counselor, coordinator, consultant, conductor of activities, and change agent. Thus, they were contributory to the effective implementation of the guidance programs in every college or university in the region under study. INTRODUCTION The roles of school counselors have changed dramatically over time. As the 20th century began, school counselors did not exist. Instead teachers were using few minutes of their day to provide students with vocational guidance. During...

...Induction Programs 1 Mentoring versus Induction Program Andrea Tubbs AED/201 Breanna Becker June 13, 2010 Mentoring vs. Induction Programs 2 One of the main factors new teachers leave after a few years of teaching is socialization. With all the training and along with additional tools new teachers get before entering into the classroom. They’re faced with so many obstacles as new teachers, that’s why it’s so good to have programs like mentoring and induction programs to help on this journey during the first couple years of teaching. Mentoring Programs are programs organized by experienced or veteran teachers, whose job is to help the new or beginning teacher. Their responsibility is to offer advice, guidance, and support for them to take back to the classroom. Induction programs are programs that are established to first year teachers that provide workshops, internships and the oppourinty for teachers to observe their future peers in the classroom to see how it’s done. These tools will provide aide to them, to use when facing adversity, challenges or any difficult situation that will arise in the classroom. The purpose of the mentoring program is to give personal and long-term individual support to the new teachers. New teachers are assigned to a mentor who will offer guidance and support to them during their first year experience. Even though mentoring is part of induction process it’s not induction. On the other hand induction programs are designed...

... November 23, 2012 There are many programs available in the State of Wisconsin to help prevent juveniles stay on the right path of life, and deter them from a life of crime. For those who do not seem to care about their life or what happens to them and continue to get into trouble there are programs for that as well. This paper is going to talk about two different programs that are available in Wisconsin, one is a diversion program and the other is a prevention program which helps juveniles at all ages and various areas and stages in their lives. 180 Degrees Juvenile Diversion Program: The motto of this diversion program is “Even though you didn’t have a good start….you can still have a great finish”,(180 Juvenile Diversion,2012). This program focuses on changing the way juveniles think, and give them goals to focus on, and throughout the program give them the tools needed to achieve those goals. The age range is 14-20 year old males and females, who have committed a first time crime normally a misdemeanor, or a lower level felony. The program is designed to give a second chance by challenging them to take a close look at their life and the direction is it turning, in this three month program, with six months of following care in case management. Every participant in this program is referred and over 50% are referred by the District Attorney, (180 Juvenile Diversion, 2012). Others that can refer...

...with assault among our youths. This crisis cause our youth to seek shelter either with gang members or on the street. Gangs and youth is another form of control. The gang lifestyle offer the youngster a stable family with a warm bed and a full stomach. Who wouldn’t do whatever it takes to keep a roof overhead? My community in California offer two of many programs geared at our juvenile delinquents. The first program is called Wind Youth Services. This program was started in 1994 by two sisters. The nuns rented a small place to help youth who ran away survive on the streets. They provided classes with basic survival skills and resources to break the homelessness cycle. The program provided more youth than space. In 2001 with the help of a Federal Grant, Wind Homeless Shelter was opened. It provided more classes and more volunteers and community outreach. In 2007, with the help of generous donors and outreach programs, Wind opened up a youth center for young people to come and do homework; get tutoring; job outreach as well as a hot meal. Some of the successful programs have been the life skills program. Today there are more than 3 million kids who are discharged from foster care who will become homeless (2012). In Sacramento, the Wind group has put 237 kids in 2012 through the life skills class. The life skills class provide a life plan for surviving. The young people develop a plan for their...

...Boot Camps and Shock Treatment Programs Positive Boot camps for juveniles can have pro’s and con’s just like anything else, but do these programs actually benefit these troubled teens? Or is it just another whim that collects tax payer’s money in another form of government despair and abandonment? Some may argue the fact that these unruly children bring it upon themselves to get them there in the first place. This author will first explain about the positives of the boot camp and shock programs. Treatment Centers such as The Academy American Addiction Centers and Wilderness Therapy Treatment Programs (WTTP) is one of the larger treatment operations in the United States, the website states “To help parents, families and professionals seeking help for youth at risk and teenagers with depression, anxiety and oppositional, defiant and conduct disorders, alcohol and other drug and substance abuse, as well as school and academic problems”. (WTTC, 2011) To add to this program statement the website is also listed as a non-profit organization with non-profit interests. The parents that are able to see the trends their children are starting to fall in, can call the above program and set up a meeting time to speak to a counselor for advice or set up an appointment to schedule a time to drop their child off. These in this author’s opinion are the parents and guardians that are responsible, upstanding people who care about their children and their futures. The parents might...

...According to the beneficiaries of 4P’s whom I interviewed, they are grateful with the program of the government. For every poor Filipino family, three of their children receive three hundred pesos (P300.00) each while their mother receives an amount of five hundred pesos (P500.00) every month. The amount received by the children is used to pay the fees in the school, used to buy notebooks, ball pen, paper, projects, and other school needs. On the other hand, the amount received by the parent is used to start a small business like a small sari-sari store or buying and selling of vegetables and a partial amount of the money received from the program is used to buy for their personal needs. On the contrary, other parents who are beneficiaries of this program are using the amount of money in sustaining their vices like drinking, smoking, and gambling. Parents who are proven guilty of the said act is penalized by a warning for their first offense and disqualifying them for their second offense. Once the child reaches fifteen years of age, the support from the government will automatically cease. The support from the government is also transferrable to his or her younger sister or brother once the child reaches the said age. The support to the parent will also automatically cease once all of their children reaches the age of fifteen. Conclusion: It is true that the support from the government to poor Filipino families is very visible and is a great help. However, is this support...
