...‘Sales ethics is an oxymoron’ Ethics is a very important and influential factor in interpersonal relationships which involve persuasion and leadership. When one has to rely and relies on the integrity and objectivity of the other person, ethics become all the more important. The correctness and incorrectness of intentions and behaviours in dealing with others, when they are encompassed with morality, are called Ethics (Boldrin and Levine 2008). According to Katalin (2005), ethical conduct involves a person observing established and accepted principles of morality of his /her own profession. Ethics provides the rationale for deciding what is right or wrong in given circumstances. Ethical standards in a society form the basis on which the ethical standards of a profession are built. Sales profession of organisations is no exception to this rule. But growing competition among business organizations and industrial houses prompt them to resort to marketing and selling strategies, which many times appear unethical. It appears that organizations resort to any practice that props up their sales (Dobson, 1997). Even established organizations are falling prey to such temptations. Misleading advertisement about non-existing features in product, wrong assurances on quality and alluring and tempting promises on characteristics like durability have become commonly accepted norms of marketing strategies. Not surprisingly the consumers...

...Immanuel Kant was generally regarded as the last major philosopher of the early modern period and one of history's most influential thinkers. His ethical theories were presented in two works. The Foundations of the Metaphysics of Morals (1785) was Kant's "search for and establishment of the supreme principle of morality." In The Critique of Practical Reason (1787) Kant attempted to unify his account of practical reason with his work in theCritique of Pure Reason. Kant was the major proponent in history of what is called deontological ethics. Deontology is the study of duty. On Kant's view, the sole feature that gives an action moral worth is not the outcome that is achieved by the action, but the motive that is behind the action. The Categorical Imperative was the name of Kant’s moral law and the famous statement of this duty: "Act only according to that maxim by which you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law." (McCormick, 2006). Kant’s notion on moral judgment i.e. the ability to personally determine the motive behind and outcome of one’s action, made freedom play a significant role in much of his ethical theories. According to Kant what makes human beings different from inanimate things and other lower level living beings is that people have dignity based on their ability to choose freely what they will do with their lives, and they have a fundamental moral right to respect other people’s choices as well. It is a violation of human dignity...

...interference in the matter-- the important question, in this case, is not why government should monitor internet content but how can monitoring internet content lead to social equality that will adhere to American values? The new digital age calls for regulation because it is something that the American people-- that humanity in general, has never experienced before. In the face of this debate, it’s important to note that imminent lawless action plays an important role in protecting free speech. Under imminent lawless action, speech that incites a violation of law that is imminent and likely should not be protected by the First Amendment. The Internet allows speech to disperse over many regions of the nation, and the globe, in ways that it hasn’t been possible before-- this allows room for hate speech, neo nazi websites, false news, widespread threats, arguments between political opponents, and violence encouraging platforms. Where do we draw the line? More specifically, how can we draw the line to protect Americans as equal under the law? While government control of internet content-- at levels federal, state, and local-- may seem like the cure for this transformation of free speech into hateful speech on the internet, a glimpse into societal structure and the system of government regulation may prove otherwise. Government, at its federal level, should play a role no larger than compliance to imminent lawless action, as well as state and local governments. Those calling for federal...

...Through the centuries, scholars have been attempting to figure out the meaning of human existence and how they could define the meaning of “good life.” Ethical theories are taught to us each and every day we live. None of these theories are necessarily invalid, and many people believe in at least one of them, but not everyone believes in the same ones. The main ethical theories are deontological ethical theories: rights theory and justice theory, and teleological ethical theories: utilitarianism and profit maximization. Ethical rights theory has incorporated a wide range of ethical philosophies pertaining to the fact that human rights are fundamental and must be respected by other humans. Each individual faces a moral compulsion not to threaten the rights of others unless a greater right takes precedence. Ethical rights theory became more prominent in the 18th century by the philosopher Immanuel Kant. He preferred to think of people as actors free to make choices and judge the morality of an action. To help understand what he meant he created two categorical imperatives. The first being, “Act only on that maxim whereby at the same time you can will that it shall become a universal law,” meaning that anyone can judge an action by applying it to anything in general. The second was “Always act to treat humanity, whether in yourself or in others, as an end in itself, never merely as a means,” meaning that one should not manipulate another to achieve their own personal happiness...

...days, about 4.9 billion barrels of oil had already spread. An estimation of 42,000 gallon of oil is oozing from underwater. From then 75,000km2 was not allowed for fishing.  Apparently, the blowout preventer device had bad managements and operations, and failed. Investigators said, “The problems with this blowout preventer were worse than we understood.†(Seth, 2014) In addition, investigators have stated that the cause of this explosion was because of the screw ups with cement, drilling mud, fluid pressure, mismanaged tests, and poor decisions. Therefore, this device should be improved so it doesn’t happen again. They have discovered that it has been the device operator’s fault in view of the fact that the blowout preventer hasn’t been tested accurately, there were problems in the wiring and dead batteries. In order to clean the oil excess, they used powerful chemicals, which they don’t know the effects of on the environment. It was from 1.6km down to the bottom. After this cause, the British Petroleum (BP) went into investigation, negotiating with more than 50 expertise from within BP and industry. Not only was it the British Petroleum, but also the Green peace and U.S fish wildlife service was involved in this case. After eight days, the government had announced that oil is leaking five times faster than it did before.  First, after the oil spill, the environment was impacted and became unfriendly. ...1. Is Cadbury a marketing-oriented firm? -I believe that Cadbury is more a selling-oriented firm than a marketing-oriented one. Still we can see some market-oriented factors in their procedures. I believe that Cadbury is a selling-oriented company since they follow the concept that holds that consumers and businesses, if left alone, will ordinarily not buy enough of the organization¡¦s products. The organization must, therefore, undertake an aggressive selling and promotion effort. Cadbury is part of an industry in which competitors are involved in which all the competitors are involved in extensive advertising and promotional activities. Consumers are bombarded with TV commercials, newspapers, ads, direct mail, and other activities. Also we can see the pattern of the selling concept, which is: Factory "žÂ± Products "žÂ± Selling & Promotion "žÂ± Profits through sales volume We can see how Cadbury follows this pattern. They first manufacture a product. Then they use intensive selling and promotion in order to generate profits throughout sales volume. Selling is preoccupied with the seller¡¦s needs to convert his product into cash. Marketing focuses in the idea of satisfying the needs of the customer by means of the product and the whole cluster of things associated with creating, delivering, and finally consuming it. Cadbury is not primarily focused in the consumer. They are focused in sales. In the soft drink business all of the competitors are focused in the cash...

By the end of 2008 volume of Islamic banking has reached to US $ 951 Billion with operation in more than 50 countries. Middle East is the centre of Islamic banking with contribution of approximately 80% while 20% share is contributed by rest of the world. In Pakistan Islamic banking is at infant stage although last 6 years growth is marvelous. Islamic banking has grown at an average annual rate of 76% in the last six and half years (12/03 - 06/10) in Pakistan. Although Islamic banking faces multi challenges however three of them are very vital for its existence. First is Sharia compliance in its operations in an environment which is dominated by interest based practices even in Muslim societies. Second is perception of financial industry practitioners about its performance whether the system is able to serve the total needs of trade and industry. Third is the perception of a large majority of Muslims whether existing practice...
