I believe you truly experience a restaurant in the evening, which is the time I went. The sun had already set and as you walked into the restaurant the lights were dimmed, with candles lit on each table. Since my brother recommended this restaurant, I suggested he come along with me and give me some pointers. The restaurant looks as if it was converted from a house into a business. We were greeted right as we walked in and seated right at the front of the restaurant. The night we chose, also happened to be First Friday which is held in downtown Raleigh the first Friday of each month, so the restaurant was a little busier than normal. The waitress then gave us the option of sparkling water or tap water. I chose to stick with tap water because that is my preference but I did notice and know from past knowledge that many Europeans drink sparkling or mineral water with their meals. Lee Griffin spoke to the college of business, faculty, students, and the community at the annual ethics lecture put on by the College of Business. As always, the ethics lecture was interesting, but Mr. Griffin’s personality of honesty, humility, and sincerity made this lecture stand out among some of the others. Married for 54 years, it was obvious Mr. Griffin was a family man, led by his faith, which he said is what gave him the strength to do everything he accomplished throughout the years. He began the lecture by reviewing Louisiana’s fiscal mess, discussing the 900 million dollars’ worth of revenue needed by July 1st, and how this effects the state and higher education. He mentioned that some of the problems were the centralized version of government and archaic tax structure, but that the most detrimental problem was the lack of leadership and ethics in our state. During his career in the 80’s and 90’s, Mr. Griffin, along with a diverse group of other people, led Louisiana into initiatives that saved the state 2.1 billion dollars. Many of these initiatives were torn down by Jindal, leading us to the state of destruction we are currently in, as one of the worst states in the union and facing a huge budget and higher education crisis.
