Introduction
An important role of every nurse is the assessment of the patient, as they are often the ones with the most patient contact. This is used to detect subtle or blatant changes in a patient’s condition to determine if a patient is unstable and requires intervention, such as in the case of a declining blood pressure. Hemodynamics generally refers to “the principles that govern blood flow in the circulatory system” (Porth, do proper citep. 435) such as blood flow, pressure, and resistance. Therefore, a patient who is considered hemodynamically unstable has impairment in one or more of these factors, which leads to an unstable blood pressure and eventual inadequate tissue perfusion.
