...study of law, learning theories inside the four walls of our classroom is a great foundation to start understanding our laws. However, the knowledge we have would be more appreciated and internalized upon experiencing the real application of these laws in the real world. Remedial law, is indeed, one of the subjects that we would appreciate more by letting us immerse into the courtrooms and be able to observe firsthand how the procedural rules of court are actually carried out. In line with this, last March 14 we went to the Regional Trial Court to observe how the presentation and examination of the witnesses are conducted. CIVIL CASES For the civil cases, we went to RTC - branch 9, under Judge Alexander Acosta. I. SPS. In 1973 Martin Cooper created the first portable phone 800 MHz prototypes that could be used outside the home and the car, before the only portable phones were in cars. It weighed about 2.5 lb. and the battery life lasted for about 20 minutes. According to Motorola.com, Cooper is considered the inventor of the first handheld cellular phone and the first person to make a phone call in public on a handheld cell phone. In 1977 cell phones went public. Chicago was the first city to trial cell phones with 2000 customers. Over the years as cellphones became smaller, lighter, and a longer battery life- they have also added new features to expand the way we communicate with others. The new cellphones today, a person can do more than just make phone calls- they can also text, IM (instant message), send emails, and Skype. The two most common forms of communicated though are making a phone call and texting. So texting or calling, which one is more helpful and convenient? Texting or SMS (short message service) is when a person types a short message on the cellular device to another person. Sending a text message is convenient...

...Jack Sisson 11/18/12 Kramer vs. Kramer A film can be interpreted in many ways, and the best interpretations are the ones that talk about what’s underneath each image. That means that the best ways to explain films are to describe what the deeper meaning is of each detail, from the first opening credit to the final end credit. The deeper meanings are combined in order to form themes. There is usually at least one Christian theme in there. The main Christian theme in the film Kramer vs. Kramer is love. Kramer vs. Kramer is a passionate film about a wife who leaves her husband because of how upset she is with their marriage. Fifteen months after the divorce, a legal battle begins to determine who gets to keep their 7-year-old son Billy, which turns into a battle of who believes he loves him more and who should get custody of him. The movie was released in 1979, and was written and directed by Robert Benton. Love is a central theme throughout the movie because of the love that Joanna Kramer, Billy’s mother, and Ted Kramer, Billy’s father, show for each other and for Billy. How much someone cares for another person can sometimes lead him to act without thinking and without the input of that person whom he cares for. This is the case when Joanna leaves Ted in the film Kramer vs. Kramer. Margaret, a friend of both of them, consoles Joanna when she talks about how fed up she is with her husband and that she wants to leave him because she feels so much pain. Joanna shows how much...

These input devices are designed to record and measure electronic signals and convert them into a physical world. In this video, the author-Oliver Kreylos wanted to explain the ways on how our sight respond can generate the change in virtual reality image. This video is divided into four parts, namely: 3D vision, Stereoscopic display, Head tracking and HMD vs CAVE and the author will explain individually how different technique work together with picture. Part I- 3D Vision Humans have two eyes located side-by-side in the front of their head, each eye captures its own view and the two separate images are sent on to the brain for processing. When the two images arrive simultaneously in the back of the brain, they are united into one picture. The mind combines the two images by matching up the similarities and adding in the small differences. The small differences between the two images add up to a big difference in the final picture. The combined image is more than the sum of its parts, and it forms 3D object. 3D object Example: Right eye Left eye Part II- Stereoscopic Display Stereoscopic...

...symbolic of something. Two characters in “Charlotte’s Web”, Fern “Arable” and Mrs. Arable are two characters who are symbolic of their own themes: Inequality & Injustice vs. Power & Control, respectively. Fern “Arable” is the little girl who is introduced in the first few pages. Fern is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arable, and the sister of Avery “Arable”. The last names of the children are in parenthesis because Fern and Avery are not given proper last names in their introductions, unlike their parents. Fern’s purpose in the story “Charlotte’s Web” is to illustrate two important themes: Inequality and Injustice. Within her character development, Fern is shown as someone who feels that the world is unjust and unfair. She is also shown as someone who is not an equal being within her family, which is inferred when she isn’t given the proper title of a last name, whereas her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Arable, are given that respect. Fern isn’t presented as “Fern Arable”, she is merely Fern; a little girl. There are many examples in just the first few pages of “Charlotte’s Web” that show how Fern represents the themes of Inequality and Injustice. The illustrations by Garth Williams on page 2 show Fern pleading desperately with her father to spare the life of the runt piglet. Sometimes, pictures do speak louder than words, and Williams’s illustration shouts volumes of the power struggle Fern faces while trying to make the world a fair place. Furthermore, the...

...Even the Furniture Can Affect Business Attitudes STANFORD GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS—It's pretty obvious that you can tell lot about a person from the way she outfits her home or office. But what you may not know is that your own behavior can be subtly influenced by her choice of items when you're in that space—without your even realizing it. In studying this effect, Christian Wheeler, associate professor of marketing, has found that certain types of objects can in fact elicit very specific kinds of behavior. Wheeler and three other researchers, including Aaron Kay and Lee Ross from Stanford's psychology department, carried out a number of studies in which they exposed individuals to objects common to the domain of business, such as boardroom tables and briefcases, while another group saw neutral objects such as kites and toothbrushes. They then gave all of the participants tasks designed to measure the degree to which they were in a cooperative or competitive frame of mind. In every case, participants who were "primed" by seeing the business objects subsequently demonstrated that they were thinking or acting more competitively. The effect was the strongest when they had to respond in situations that were deliberately ambiguous. When questioned, however, participants denied that being exposed to business-related objects had influenced their behavior in any way. "People are always trying to figure out how to act in any given situation, and they look to external cues to guide...

Social media is transforming the manner in which teenages interact with their parents, peers, as well as how they make use of technology. If not used properly however social media can be used in a negative context. My niece has been a victim of social cyberbullying on 2 of the 3 sites named above. She is a gorgeous 15yr old girl with full potential to take life by storm. Unfortunately, a group of her peers didn’t feel the same about her they not only shamed her at school but would post things on Facebook and Instagram about her. I believe the infatuation today’s world has with posting everything on a social media site is a little out of hand. It causes so much doubt about oneself, questions am I good enough? Could my life be more? Because they compare their own strides to those of others they see on Instagram, Facebook, or any of the other sites mentioned above. My niece dealt with her own struggles believing she was the ugly duckling because of Instagram shaming every time she would...

...“Terrified Woman with Child” by Rico Lebrun. This piece stood out to me because at first I could not tell what it was a picture of. After studying it some more I could see a mother holding her child tightly, with the child struggling to be free from the mother’s hold. As the time passed I began to notice various themes that represents the mother and child’s relationship. One theme that stood out to me at first was included in the Mothers and Daughters film in Chapter 2: Growing Up. In the film the mothers stated that they did not want their daughters to grow up because then they would lose their innocence and they would start to become more independent, this is where one mind starts to become two (Weimberg, 2010). The mother has her feet in a struggling stance, her head pushed back, and both of her arms wrapped around the child. This is conveying her struggle to keep the child in her protective arms. The mother’s left arm is covering the child’s face which can convey that the mother is preventing her child from seeing the world and losing innocence. She is definitely scared of her child from leaving her protection, care, and nurture. She...

...specific. Mama Day, a novel which has won many acclaimed awards and recognition from many in the literature world, was a fictional piece of writing full with many images, sounds, great settings and fascinating characters. The author, Gloria Nylor, uses many intriguing characters of which she places them with many actual realistic settings and situations as she describes the entire event they were faced with. Nylor centers her novel on the characters of Cocoa and George, whom both have to deal with the parallels of life in both the small island of Willow Springs and the large city life of New York. The other main characters of this book are Ophelia, Baby Girl and Mama Day. Mama Day is the most prognostic in the book and often the most outspoken, brave and powerful person of Willow Springs. What would happen if she left the town, since it seems that she is the one with the most authority there? Well as she said it herself, she has no intention of leaving. Mama Day is often symbolized with Eco-feminism, as the author would always place her at scenes in her Garden, or in the forest or with some natural inclement weather. Mama Day also focuses on what will be said the two most important characters of the novel, Cocoa Day and George Andrews. Cocoa Day is torn between two worlds of the nature and city life, where in the city everything is dependent on an explanation. Cocoa’s husband, George, is an engineer from the big city and often cannot except supernatural things the he...

...2004). The story is told through a “notebook” that Noah is reading to Allie, whom has Alzheimer’s disease. Allie has no clue that Noah is her husband due to her disease. Noah has hope that Allie will eventually recognize the story he is telling her and realize it is her husband that is telling her the story. The couple eventually dies, but to signify their loving relationship, they pass on the same bed, holding one another’s hand. Throughout the entire movie Allie is demonstrating examples of the adolescent in biosocial appearances, Erikson’s theories of psychosocial, and Maslow’s cognitive theory. In the opening scene of the movie, Allie appears to be portrayed as an elderly woman. Even though Allie is beautiful with make-up and her hair looking beautiful, her face has obvious wrinkles, she has obvious bags under eyes, her hands seem to be weak, and her voice is deeper than her younger voice. All of these characteristics signify those of a typical geriatric. According to Berger, the characteristics of a geriatric are organ reserves are diminished; skin, hair, and body shape show unmistakable signs of senescence. (Berger, 2011) The Notebook has many of Eric Erickson’s psychosocial stages that both Allie as well as Noah goes through such as, stage eight, integrity vs. despair, stage five, identity vs. identity confusion, and stage six, intimacy vs. isolation (Berger, 2011). When Noah is reading the...
