...feelings on topics. How can I tell you what I feel for you and Beautiful eyes,Beautiful face written by Nicholas Gordon both share their feelings about their crush. Both poems use their own distinct tone to help develop the theme, poetic devices to help the reader understand the narrator’s feelings and rhyme scheme. Gordon uses a very similar tone in both of the poems to help with developing the theme. Two lines from the poem, How can I tell you what I feel for you that help establish the tone is “You won't believe it! Better I stay mute” and “And yet I wish to tell you of my love”. The tone used in that poem is shy, the narrator is scared to tell their crush how they feel for them. The tone helps develop the theme, because even though the narrator loves this person to death, he is still scared and shy to tell the person that they love them. Similarly, in the poem, Beautiful eyes,Beautiful the...

...important in many aspects because it’s the basis of how you understand people’s behavior and the human mind. The reason for studying psychology is different for every person. Personally at the beginning it was just because I have to take this course for my major. I soon came to learn this class is going to help me in a lot more ways than one. I started becoming more excited about it because it will help me with my future goal of becoming a nurse. A huge point in studying psychology for me is because in my future goal of becoming a nurse it will not only benefit me but it will benefit my patients due to an understanding of how their feeling, reacting, and also what they are thinking. Understanding a patient’s brain can be a huge factor in your job. A nurse must always be aware of how her interaction with her patient affects that patient, the patient's family, and ultimately the patient's outcome. For example a patient suffering anxiety over his illness may refuse to get out of bed, which could cause complications such as a respiratory infection or pneumonia. As a nurse if you suspect a patient won't participate in his recovery, you will need to provide emotional support and encouragement while adapting his treatment plan to his psychological health. A way you as a nurse could help the patient is set up a short term goals list where you could encourage them to do something small like attempt to get out of bed four times a day. Then you could progress from there while encouraging your...

...another one opens. You never know when good things might happen to you! The other day, I missed my train into Penn station. I was disappointed, but it was not the end of the world however. Noticing I had missed my train, a homeless man came up to me and asked me if I could spare him some money to buy lunch at Subway. I had nowhere I needed to be for the next 40 minutes until the next train and I always love to help those who are less fortunate than myself, so I said "sure." I bought the man an Arizona Iced Tea, and gave him $10 for lunch. But instead of him going off to Subway, he stuck around and we talked until my next train arrived. From our conversation, I learned that he has an amazing soul and is one of the nicest...

...Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to help you begin responding in writing to texts and experiences different from your own. This essay is an informal reading response. A reading response is your reaction to something the author or character has said, done, or written. Once you understand the work, you can then begin to respond to it thoughtfully. This assignment prepares you to write the documented essay as well as other essays that invite you to participate in intellectual dialogue with others. A reading response should respond specifically to a point the author has made. If you are responding to a character, then the response should respond to something the character has said or done. In either case, you may agree, disagree, or relate the author’s or character’s point to your own experience or use the author’s point as a launching pad for another issue. Because this is an informal response, you do not necessarily have to cite sources. It is important, however, that you refer to the author and the name of the article at the beginning of your response. Please check with your instructor to see what he or she prefers. A reading response consists of: 1. the statement or idea that you are responding to placed in its proper context--this may mean providing background information about the article itself; 2. your reaction to the statement or idea; 3. a connection between what you have read and experienced in your own life The following...

...and hungry. I take drives in the early morning on the weekends frequently into downtown Denver in Colorado where I live and I see our streets crowded with homeless people. As I drive I observe many sitting on the ground in the cold weather, their clothes are ripped and dirty. Beside them is either a grocery cart full of items that they have collected from the trash or bags packed with clothes, food, and other items that they have collected from the homeless shelters or the trashcan that they rummaged through to eat to survive. I noticed some just sit there with a blank stare on their faces wondering off into the distance with their mind. Some are trading the collectibles that to them are of...

...Went To Church The loss of a family member can be a hard thing to deal with, and some people get despaired by whether they should start to believe in something - a religion, to help them get through the rough times. This is what Mike Skinner does in the song “Never Went to Church” from 2006, which is dedicated to his late father. Skinner finds help in his father - even though he is not with him anymore. The loss of his father makes him consider the thought of going to church, and at least he decides to take his advice. He is going to hedge his bets by visiting a priest, a rabbi and a protestant clergyman - he is trying to find something to believe in. Skinners loss makes him go through a thousand thoughts about what he has left to remind him of his father. He is afraid that he has lost him ‘for good’ - that he does not have anything at all left. At first he cannot find anything to remind him, but the more he thinks about it, the closer he comes to the conclusion that he actually does have something; himself: “I guess then you did leave me something to remind me of you, every time I interrupt someone like you used to do, if I do something like you, you’ll be on my mind all through because I forgot, you left me behind to remind me of you” (p. 2 ll. 13 - 14). Skinner realizes that he has himself to remind him of his father, because they have some of the same traits and habits. The whole song trough, Skinner sings about how his father was and what he is supposed to do now...

Sally is feeling that she should have died instead of her son. Sally cannot accept that her son is no longer alive and is telling her God to take her and bring her son back. Kubler-Ross’s Five Stages of Grief When working with someone that is dealing with the loss of a loved one a good tool to use would be Kubler-Ross’s 5 Stages. The first stage is denial and isolation. The first reaction to learning of terminal illness or death of a cherished loved one is to deny the reality of the situation. We block out the words and hide from the facts. This is a temporary response that carries us through the first wave of pain. The second stage is anger. As the effects of denial and isolation wears off anger sets in. The anger may be aimed at inanimate objects, complete strangers, friends or family. Stage three is bargaining. In this stage one tries to make a pact with God. When this no longer holds stage four sets in which is, depression. Depression can be from sadness and regret. It can take over one’s feelings but this phase can be eased with...

...REVIEW OF THE GREATEST SALESMAN IN THE WORLD NUMBER OF WORDS: 5125 “Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time.” ― O G Mandino Born in the USA on the 12th of December, 1923, Mandino was named after his paternal grandfather. Having been the editor of his high school paper, he planned to attend the University of Missouri for journalism. But as destiny would be he couldn’t attend the college as his mother died of a massive heart attack when she was in the kitchen preparing his lunch. It was after this incident that he decided not to go for college and instead joint a paper factory. Mandino was a military officer and a bombardier in the United States Army Air Corps. Mandino’s greatest inspiration was his fellow pilot and movie star, James Stewart. He used to keep a personalized photo of Stewart near him and then wrote his books. After his military services, Mandino found himself as an insurance salesman. But this job did not last him long due to his drinking habit and these habits also made his wife and child away from him. There was a time when Mandino almost tried to kill himself but his various volumes of self help and motivation books helped him leave his alcoholism and become a successful writer and speaker.
