Hiring Decision Paper

During our in class assignment on the Hiring Process I was one of one’s chosen to go through the interview process and be on the other side of the hiring process; the applicant. I will say when I first volunteered I was assuming that I would be the one giving the interview to the potential applicant. So it was a bit of a surprise for it to be flipped on me, but I went along with it anyway. Being a stay at home mom it has been a while that I had to come up with a resume so doing it on the spot was a task itself. And then to walk into a classroom, all eyes on me while I sat through the interview process knowing everyone was listening and judging had me a little lost for words and forgetting basic information about myself. However I do think I made it through the interview with confidence and feeling like a strong candidate for the position. After my interview I had to wait while the other applicant was being interviewed and then again while they deliberated and eventually chose which one of us would be offered the job. As confident as I was and as sure of myself as I was about my interview I was rather surprised that I wasn’t chosen for the position. However after hearing their reasoning I wasn’t chosen I completely understood and agreed with their decision. While it’s never good to not be offered the position you’re interviewing for it was nice to hear it was because they thought I was over qualified for the position.
Taking away from this activity I definitely know that no matter how confident I feel about an interview I might not get it. Since this wasn’t a realistic position I would hire for I do think that David, being the other applicant, is better suited for this job. He is much younger, college student and lack of experience makes him a better choice. He would be easily trained, his availability would most
