Adlai Stevenson Governor of Illinois and Democratic presidential candidate for the 1952 election. Lost election to Eisenhower by a land slide. His weakness and lack of experience and made Eisenhower the presidential nominee favorite.
Dwight D. Eisenhower Republican Presidential Candidate Military hero, commander of NATO was Elected President in 1952 by a landslide victory over Adlai Stevenson with 55% of the popular vote and 442 of electoral votes.
The Modern West. Federal spending and investments caused economic growth in the west. After the WWII usage of the automobile increased, which in turn increased the demand for the petroleum industry and oil fields of the west. More work caused more people to move West which boosted the economy to start bigger cities
Television. Was the most powerful product of mass communication ever. Replaced all other forms of information sources. Television informed America of current events but also caused upheavals to spread.
The Fair Deal. Domestic program submitted by President Truman that raised minimum wage, expanded Social Security System, and passed the National Housing Act of 1949 to improve living conditions of poor and low income Americans.

Society, culture and the economy aided the economic growth of the 50’s and 60’s first with the fair deal that raised minimum wage and brought more money and eligible people to the Social Security System. Thus putting more money into circulation for people to spend and start new businesses. With the money used to make factories in the west to support WWII after the war was over those factories returned to making the items that people had gone without while the war was in effect. The television allowed people all over the country to see advertisements of new products and enticing people to buy and spend money, television also allowed people to learn faster of current events.
Topic Significance for American History
I Love Lucy I Love Lucy was the most watched television show on tv from its first episode to its last. America set their day around the show. The I Love Lucy show addressed the same problems that eh viewers had but made them funny. The I Love Lucy Show was one of the first shows with an interracial married couple.
Interstate Highways With automobile usage increasing America needed more roads to shorten the distance across the country, and make traveling faster and easier. Highways made it possible to build outside of cities where and was cheaper. Highways reduced the travel time and made trucking goods to markets cheaper than railroads.
The Mickey Mouse Club. The Mickey Mouse Club is a children’s show that caused children across the country to want any products that had Mickey Mouse on them. The popularity of the show also made Disneyland amusement parks a huge success The entertainment and success of these shows tuned into beneficial marketing tool.
McDonalds.
McDonald’s restaurants expanded as the highways did to off traveling people a fast and convenient place to eat quickly.
Echo Park. Echo Park was the occasion of where a Government Bureau of Reclamation wanted to build a damn and detour the parks water supply so it could be used for a public lake for recreation and as a hydroelectric power source. Environmental organization fought and won to preserve the park in its natural form.
