Q A theme in the Wednesday Wars is it's hard to please two people/groups/ideas at the same time, which is shown when Holling decides whether or not to forgive Meryl Lee, when Holling is deciding what he should be when he grows up and when Danny gives his signed baseball back to Mickey Mantle. First, Holling confronts Meryl Lee for showing his dad's designs to her father, but Meryl Lee says she didn't know he was going to use the same designs.
