With society gradually changing, parents may consider different options to meet their child’s educational needs. The technology today provides parents with choices regarding what type of schooling their child will be attending. The parent can have their child attend traditional school or resort to teaching their child at home which is commonly referred to as home schooling. Whether the child attends public school or is schooled in their home there are certain things that apply to each type of schooling. Although homeschooling has its benefits, traditional schooling is set in stone when it comes to things like the curriculum, schedule and school environment.

How the child learns is a key factor when determining which type of schooling him or her is going to attend. Depending on the child, one type of schoolings curriculum can benefit the child or hinder their progress. The child will receive the basic skills regardless, whether they are home schooled or attend a public school. These basic skills include things like reading, writing, and math skills. The curriculum of traditional schooling has always been based on the state standards that the school is located in. State required curriculums has the teachers keeping all of their students at the same on the same track for the sake of ease. The traditional schooled student can easily become bored and uninterested because they don’t feel challenged. The student might even fall behind because they require more instruction on a specific topic. The chance of either of these happening to a home schooled student are drastically reduced. If the child is home schooled the curriculum has a chance to take ideas deeper and explore while the public school curriculum takes more ideas and ties them together. The parent can also

...Tinita Johnson Professor: Belles Com/155 June 14, 2012 Home Schooling vs. Traditional Schooling In today’s changing society, parents may often ponder over the best choice for their children’s educational needs. Today’s technological age provides choices for parents regarding the type of school that their children will attend. They have the choice of sending their children to traditional school or teaching them at home, commonly referred to as home schooling, which is often conducted by use of a personal computer in the home. Home schooling provides a more direct approach of educating today’s youth when compared to public schools. Alternatively, public school offers children a greater chance of enhancing their social development and skills. There are many advantages of parent’s home schooling their children. These advantages include individual bonding time with the children, security of knowing that their children are learning, and more access to monitoring their children’s academic progress. Another added benefit of schooling involves modification of the curriculum to accommodate each student’s ability. Within the home school curriculum, a parent has the freedom to filter out subjects that they do not want their children to learn. According to (Kunzman) there has been an increase of 74% in homeschool attendance between the years of 1999 to 2007. It was also noted that this growth is twelve times that of public school attendance. Some disadvantage of homeschooling...

...schools, and home schooling their children. Depends on what the parents choose is best for their children. Since private schools and public schools fall under the category with traditional schooling, lets compare and contrast traditional schooling vs. home schooling. The two are both types of schools. The student can earn a diploma with either way of schooling program. Both of the ways of schooling have the same main courses needed to graduate.Something that might be different is how many credits are needed to graduate. Most are 21 credits with four credits from the main classes like science, English, history, and math. Also a half credit from gym class. For some home school students getting that grade is hard. They might need to go to a park and play basketball or find something to do outside. Some parents don’t want to hire a teacher so they enroll their kids in the online home schooling. The two types of schooling ways also let the student progress through the course. For example if you pass your first year of regular science you have the option to further into biology, chemistry, geology, and psychics. Both ways of schooling offer different classes you can take like computer classes, second languages, art class, Hom-each,accounting, and etc. A major difference is the pace of learning. Home schooled kids can learn at their own pace. This is a major help to those kids that are slower at learning or have problems in a certain class. While kids in traditional schools have...

The Preference for Homeschooling over Traditional Schooling

...Preference for Homeschooling over Traditional Schooling” Kaplan University Preference for homeschooling over traditional schooling Traditional education has been around for centuries. The origins can be traced back to the 1600’s during the time of the Puritans and individuals who were referred to as “Congressionalist’s.” Even after implementation of this educational system, children were still being taught at home by their parents even though it was not a lawfully permitted action in a number of locations. Through the years, the traditional school system has undergone many changes; possibly one of the most noticeable alterations is the preference of parents to re-visit their option to educate their children at home instead of “forcing” them to attend public facilities. Parents are increasingly becoming more aware of the many benefits this type of education can offer to not only their children, but to themselves. Homeschooling is more effective than traditional schooling because it allows parents to design a particularized curriculum for their child/children, reduces the social pressures of the traditional school environment and provides the convenience of schedule flexibility for parent and child alike. The increasing number of parents who are choosing to educate their children at home is due to a number of factors. The following reasons have also contributed to the escalating percentage of children who are receiving their educations at home. Homeschooling is now legal...

...Home Schooling vs. Public Schooling Jill Norris COM155 October 27, 2012 Dr. Melton Home Schooling vs. Public Schooling The grand cartoonist Al Capps once said, “Any place that anyone can learn something useful from someone with experience is an educational institution.”(Capps) This statement evokes thought of exactly what defines a “school.” Can any place be called a school? Certainly the home can be called a school as there are around 1.5 million children in the United States are homeschooled. Home schooled children are able to practice their religion, can have a different curriculum, and different disciplinary actions, but both can lead to a well educated student. Public schools, even with all of their bad press, are still the most popular way to educate a child (Homeschool Or Public School? 2012) According to www.hslada.org, which provides legal analysis of home school laws, someone that is interested in homeschooling their children should follow the law of the state in which they reside. Laws governing home school education vary by state and according to the 10th Amendment of the Constitution the power to regulate all forms of education belong to the states. Homeschooling is included in this protection. The Constitution states that the federal government is not allowed to interfere with or control public or private forms of education. The progression requirements for home schooled children do differ state by state and the federal government has no laws or...

Over twenty thousand Carolinians students attend school at home in 2013 and according to Martin-Chang, Gould, and Meuse (2011), the national number of home school kids was close to two million children in 2010. She noted that while home schooling has become a “fashionable choice” for young urban professionals who want the best education for their children. The subject is still full of controversies about learning and social development, governmental involvement, standards, and safety. Opponents of home schooling believe too much is often left up to parents, who can teach their kids anything they desire and limit contact with other kids their age and environments. Home schooling is often associated with extremism, and potentially abusive situations are harder to identify when the home school students are isolated. Opponents fear that some parents choose home schooling out of fear or displeasure, rather than making a thoughtful choice based on their child’s needs. Proponents of home schooling believe home schooled children are healthy and advanced learners because they receive one-on-one attention and have some degree of control over their learning. Online vs. Traditional Schooling

...Online Vs. Traditional Schooling Sarah Ann Weinkertz COM/170 7/17/2014 Korijna Valenti There is a long standing debate whether online or traditional schooling is more effective. What people do not realize is that online and traditional schooling are actually quite similar once you look at the material, curriculum, and the instructors teaching the classes. The instructors for online and traditional classes teach the same curriculum, using different techniques to give the students the information that they need. Online and traditional classes do of course have their differences such as the environment the students are working in, the time they get to do everything they need to, the communication between the students with the teachers, and financial obligations. Online schools follow the same curriculum as traditional schools do, providing the students just as respectable an education as a traditional school's education. Communication between students and instructors tends to differ between online schooling and tradition schooling. When someone is attending school online they have to realize that the communication will be limited; the professor may not be online or available when the student is actually needing the help. This is similar to traditional school, varying in that connecting with an instructor is through online contact in comparison to the possibility of an in-person meeting that is typically available to...

Home School vs Public School

...Home School vs Public Education Most Americans do not home-school their children. However, those who do, certainly have good reasons. There are advocates on both sides of this educational issue, it is important to understand why some parents choose to home-school their children. Although both can provide a quality education to its students, a student can learn in a social environment therefore leading to his/her overall development. One of the many reasons that home school parents feel passionate about home schooling is their religious beliefs. Since religion is no longer permitted in the public school system, many home-school parents feel that their children have been short-changed in this area. It is their wish to raise their children in an environment that not only allows religion but also embraces it. Having deep religion beliefs, parents who home-school for religious reasons are said to be very passionate people. It is this passion that feeds their children’s educational needs. With the parent in charge, home-schooling can be based solely on religious activities if the parent so chooses. It is also this passion that will allow the parents to teach their children to the best of their abilities. Home-schooling allows the parent to be in charge. Another reason the public school system appears to have allowed a stereotype to be attached to home-schooled children is socialization. This stereotype suggests that home-schooled children are confined rather than social. In truth...

Compare and Contrast

...Christopher A. Serrano Segarra Prof. Bill Jenkins Written Composition I February 4, 2016 Home-schooling vs traditional School I will talk about homeschooling and unlike traditional school. I chose this topic because I lived the two types of systems that are quite different. I chose it because it is something that is education and the issue has much to compare. In traditional school you attends classes at determined times. In homeschooling one do not have determined times and on many occasions do not have a tutor. At school you have just completed a brochure. Taking exams is another difference in school and homeschooling. At school you have the opportunity to meet new friends and have more social life. Traditional Schooling is much better than homeschooling. Las universidades estarán más interesados en los alumnos que fueron educados en la escuela tradicional en vez que el otro tipo de escuela, verán los estudiantes educados en casa como un riesgo. For many parents in society it has always been a concern that socialization may become endangered a child in school linked to home. Many people believe that public schooled children learn about the socialization of the "school of life" in a public place, as they have to learn socialization skills on how to act with other children and teachers, through a process of trial and error. The truth...

Traditional Education vs. Online Education

...Online Education vs. Traditional Education Online Education vs. Traditional Education There are different ways to access higher education, either through online education or traditional education. For centuries, online education could not compare to traditional education. Today, online education competes with traditional education in many ways. Though online education has become very popular, how does one know which is best for him or her? Identifying the pros and cons through flexibility, communication, interaction, skills development, and affordability will help the student decide the best option. Although online education seems to be taking over the traditional means of education, both are great options in different ways. The bottom line is that the world is becoming technologically smart. For one juggling home, school, and a job, it can be difficult commuting to class every day. Online education eliminates the need to attend class. Online courses allow the student to access coursework from an Internet site. Motivated, responsible, independent learners can work at their own pace, whenever is suitable for them. This allows the flexibility that a traditional classroom setting does not provide. However, one who struggles to be self-motivated may fall quickly behind. In a traditional classroom setting the student has to attend class on campus. Traditional education is for a learner who needs more lecturing to understand and also needs to be able to ask questions as he...

Online vs. Traditional Education

...February 2016 Online vs. Traditional Education During the final year of high school, the pressure of going to college is at its peak. Drilling into our heads that, college is the best route to go after high school if we want to have a “bright” future. No doubt majority of students go to college directly after, but some end up waiting to go later on. Fortunately, there are other options available today for those who had to wait to go. Online schooling, the ability to get a higher education online, without the traditional classroom setting. Now the burning question, just how much better is online learning anyway? There are many factors in determining whether the online route or the traditional way is better. The thing today that most people think about before making their decision about which way to go, is the environment that would best suite their current life situations. Parental Influence

...Differences in parental influence on adolescent academic achievement in American and Asian societies (Taiwan, China, & Japan)  A lot of attention has been paid to the roles parents play in influencing adolescent academic achievement. The purpose of this project is to compare differences in parental influence on adolescent academic achievement between American and Asian societies. The Asian countries focus on Taiwan, China, and Japan. The project also offers some explanations for why Asian adolescent students outdistance American students in academic achievement.  If we give a definition of achievement or achievement motivation, we can define it as people wanting to develop a competent self, or individuals having the motivation to succeed, to be good at something, to be independent and competitive, and to do well at whatever they may attempt. We can analyze Weinerís attribution theory of achievement into three dimensions: the locus of control, stability, and controllability. (Weiner, 1986) What students attribute their academic achievement to is a big issue. If students believe a failure is controllable - the result of low effort ñ they may be spurred on by that failure to do better next time. And a significant and important factor that affects studentsí attribution might be parental influence. In different countries, parents have totally different attitudes toward their childrenís academic performance. This article provides possible reasons for why Asian students outdistance...

Home School vs Public School

...Renooka Alummoottil Engl 1302-45400 Dr. Shazia Ali July 1, 2013 Home School vs Public School Education When it comes to education, the choice on what form of education is best for a child should be of the utmost importance to parents. In order to choose the best education environment for a child, certain matters have to be taken into consideration. Parents need to be educated on the advantages and disadvantages of both public and home school education. Having all the information would enable them to make the best decision for their child’s education. One type of academic setting may be suitable for some children and not others. “In 2007, the number of homeschooled students was about 1.5 million, an increase from 850,000 in 1999 and 1.1 million in 2003. The percentage of the school-age population that was homeschooled increased from 1.7 percent in 1999 to 2.9 percent in 2007. The increase in the percentage of homeschooled students from 1999 to 2007 represents a 74 percent relative increase over the 8-year period and a 36 percent relative increase since 2003” (U.S. Department of Education). These facts support the view that the trend of parents moving to educate their children at home is more beneficial to the child. Because each child is different and may have different needs, they would benefit from an individualized attention setting in order to grow and thrive which cannot be provided by the public school system. If a child is in a setting that is not suitable for them...
