...is to clear up some concepts regarding the three types of college students. One group, The Jocks, is the show-off type of people who puts off their homework assignments until the last minute. Once the assignment is completed at the last minute, the assignment is usually scored a low grade. The reason for this is because the jocks are always partying, going out on dates, or having fun with their sorority. The jocks wear anything to include torn jeans/shirts, work down sneakers or boots and cheap, expensive-looking jacket. The second group, known campus-wide, is the nerds because they are obsessed with books, constantly studying and learning about their interests. The nerds are usually annoying with their obnoxious laughter regarding a really stupid joke. The nerds wear a nice shirt with a bow tie, or a tie and a nicely ironed dress pants and always has a pocket protector to prevent ink stains from their pens. The nerd spends their school night with a tight schedule for recreation, school homework, and learning new things that captures their interests. Computer programming, calculator programming, the biology of their pet frog are some of the common things that interests the nerds. The third group is the normal group, they are usually typical college students attending their scheduled classes, getting the homework assignments done and turned in on time. The normal group is usually mothers/fathers that have hired baby sitters to watch their son(s)/daughter(s)...

Productive

...Mindless or Productive? We all enjoyed watching high school sports back in our day. We saw our school beat other schools from around the region, we watched our friends play their hearts out doing the sport they loved, and we even showed off our school spirit by wearing our school’s colors. We thrived off seeing our friends perform and entertaining the crowd with their skills in different sports. However, there seems to be a common trend about what students and everyone else think about when considering the high school athletes: Are they dumb, mindless, and a waste of time and money? Well I believe that high school athletes are not mindless and dumb, but rather very productive, both athletically and academically. The first reason is that the sports they play in keeps them healthy and active. There are numerous reports that show how being active in sports actually benefits you not only academically, but also in a healthy way too. By being active, you can lose weight, feel happier, and live longer. Most importantly, it can make you smarter and help you concentrate (http://www.activecoquitlam.ca). When you play in a sport, your brain is firing neuro-receptors into both the left and the right hemispheres each time you run, catch, or throw a ball. Thus, coordination and communication is improved between the two hemispheres and more receptors grow each time, which is key to learning information through experiences (Oden). By being active in sports, not only are you gaining experience...

Study Tip: Move Before You Study Maybe your mom or dad tells you to do your homework as soon as you get off the bus. Ask if you can shoot hoops or run for 15 or 20 minutes first. Explain that you're not trying to put off your work. It's just that exercising your body may help your brain.Kids in a Chicago-area school do PE first if they're having problems with math or reading. They do much better on tests after they exercise. Moving before you do homework can help get your brain ready to study. Study Tip: Pick Your Study Spot Your parents may have set up a great desk in a quiet room. But you feel better doing homework on the floor in the living room or in your bedroom. The important thing is to find a place where you'll pay attention.Your bedroom might give you privacy. That's great if you have annoying brothers or sisters. But if you start looking at the stuff in your room instead of your math problems, find another place to work. It may even help kids study better when they do homework in different...

Positive Affirmation Paper

...regarding school work. For as long as I can remember, I have been putting off the completion of writing papers and doing homework for all subjects in school. I also procrastinate when I need to study for a test, and I end up cramming at the last minute. I have been using procrastination in regards to writing papers, doing homework, and studying for tests for so many years now that it seems to work for me as I am able to complete all off my assignments by the due date, and do well on tests. The reason I want to change my procrastinating ways is because of the immense, unnecessary stress that it physically, as well as mentally, puts upon me. Procrastination also affects me outside of school. One example of this is the way that I put off doing any of my closing tasks at work until the last ten minutes we are open, which causes me to have to stay at work after hours in order to complete them. Procrastination has kept me up all night, caused me untold amounts of stress, and has also gotten me into trouble at my job. It seems as if it is only a major factor regarding school, but in reality it affects everything. Procrastination is something that I struggle with, but I definitely have a motivation to change the way it affects my life. 3. Specifically I will use this affirmation as soon as we are able to start on the listening paper as well as for my psychology paper that is due in two weeks. I will continue to use this affirmation at work, as well as with my goals and tasks for...

Effective Study Skills and Academic Performance

...Introduction Effective study skills are necessary for a college student to excel academically. The student must develop these skills in order to retain information learned in the present for their future benefit. Study skills can be a combination of several techniques, including time management, note-taking, self-testing, and test-wiseness, to name a few. There is no one best way to study, therefore, techniques can be tailored to the needs of the student to achieve the most optimal result. However, diagnostic testing is also available to assist students in assessing their weaknesses in their learning behaviors and study habits. A rather general combination of the two terms would yield, "learning and motivational strategies considered essential in being successful in college" (Tuckman...

...Chapter 1 THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction Education plays a vital role in our lives. It is important like our basic needs – food, clothes, shelter. It is through education where we can put our potentials in maximum use. It is a precious tool in our lives. It is our key to success. It opens doors of opportunities and serves as our guide to achieving our dreams. It is a preparation for our future roles. Without education, we cannot develop our skills and talents that will help us become successful in our respective careers. It is the only way where we can achieve our goals. According to Manali Oak, “Education gives us knowledge of the world around us. It develops us in a perspective of looking at life. It helps us build opinions and have points of view on things in life. People debate over the subject whether education is the only thing that gives knowledge. Some say, education is the process of gaining information about the surrounding world while knowledge is something very different. They are right. But then, information cannot be converted into knowledge without the catalyst called education.” Information is everywhere. But it’s not enough that we just gain information. We need education for us to be able to understand and interpret it. Through education, we develop proper attitudes, values and behavior towards other people. We learn how to interact using good manners and appropriate conduct with the people around us. “The words ‘cultivate’ and ‘civilize’...
