Hopworks Urban Brewery (HUB), passion for supporting vibrant and thriving communities started back in 2007 with founder Christian Ettinger. For the past ten years HUB has been actively participating in corporate social responsibility (CSR) supporting several bike-and-walk programs, local schools, and providing employees with volunteer opportunities in the neighborhood.

Employer supported volunteering refers to companies supporting their employees to volunteer their time and skills to serve their community. Getting up close and personal with the…show more content… Actively involving employees in establishing CSR procedures into a business' image and culture, from the beginning of the formation of a policy to the exertion and expansion, can also help engage them in it. If a company doesn't already have an established culture, employers might ask employees what they would want to change about the company, or what move could be made to imbue CSR into the company. The article “Giving Workers Paid Time Off to Volunteer Will Help Your Company Succeed” states, “By letting employees guide charitable efforts, the winning companies create high levels of commitment and pride among their teams” (Frauenheim, Lewis-Kulin). When Employees are involved in the allocation of resources, and help in the decision-making process on many levels it gives them a chance to voice their opinions allowing them to feel more involved, making them want to do more overall. Creating a custom volunteer plan is an effective way to find the best ways for employees to put their skills to use. Lindsey LaVine states in her article “Giles recommends that business owners evaluate their business and employee strengths and select volunteer activities that draw upon those strengths. For example, if you own an accounting firm, you could volunteer to help a nonprofit set up their accounting practices or do their taxes.” “Our examination of thousands of employee surveys found that people at the best workplaces were more than four times more likely to talk about their businesses’ charitable endeavors, compared to employees at peer companies certified by Great Place to Work.” (Frauenheim, Lewis-Kulin). There is no 'one size fits all' way to deal with community engagement: what's critical is to discover an approach that fits with your company's culture and method of
