...October, 2012 Too Much? For my Argument Text Analysis, I chose the essay “Do Professional Athletes Get Paid Too Much Money?” by Mihir Baghat. This particular essay is about how athletes make way more money than they deserve and how wrong that is due to the fact that the American society is a place where salaries and wages are based on the value of ones’ work and that a person should be paid according to the economic importance and value to society. By writing “Do Professional Athletes Get Paid Too Much Money?” Baghat is trying to inform the reader about the amount of money professional athletes are making now a day and that they should get paid a lot less. He is doing this by giving examples of jobs that he thinks deserve a lot more money than what professional athletes are getting paid. Teachers are great examples of this. Baghat states that “Teaching is one of the most economically important occupations if you really think about it. Our future economies rely on how well we educate our youth, and yet teachers are paid a mere fraction of what a professional athlete receives” (Baghat). Another example is when Baghat talks about President Obama and how he gets paid a lot less than professional athletes even though the President makes important decisions affecting the entire world. This essay is very one-sided at times but overall it does achieve its goal of convincing the reader that professional athletes get paid too much and that the amounts of money being spent on paying...

...Why should kids get paid to do chores, if it’s their own responsibility in life? I believe kids should not get paid for doing chores, so they can be prepared for their jobs and future. Some people think kids should get paid to do chores and some do not. But when kids grow up, they have to do their own dishes if they want them to be clean and they have to clean their houses or they will be a mess, so why don’t they start practicing now? Basically, kids shouldn’t be paid to do chores because it’s part of everyday life. In the article, it said that chores have to be done no matter if you get paid, or not. The article also said that sometimes we do jobs not for a reward, but because we simply have to do them. All these things are good reasons...

...Many kids in the world do chores, but the majority do not get paid. I think that kids should get paid for their chores. If kids did I think that kids would save their money for things that the realy want. If kids got paid for their chores it would also help teach them responsibility and how to use money wisely in the future when they are older. If kids got paid to do things they could save up money over the years that they grow up and get something they really wanted like a car. If kids spend their money wisely they wouldn't have to wait for his or her birthday or christmas to come around, they could get things through the year. They could have some money to help their parents pay for college when they grow up. Paying kids for their chores...

...Growing up, I was taught to pick up what I got out, or I was in minor trouble. Was I ever paid to pick up my Barbie dolls or my favorite stuffed animals? Nope - but I don’t need to be. Although getting paid may be nice to some people, that’s not how the real world works. The government doesn’t pay you to do your chores. In fact, they’re taking away the money you earned from your JOB to go towards taxes. Everyone has different opinions, but sometimes it’s backed up with evidence. Children and teens think they should get paid, but their parents said they never did when they were younger, and still don’t today! Without chores - paid or not, we would all be living in these filthy pig stys. Say your parent(s) tell you that they agree with you and will start paying you to do your chores. What’s going to happen when you take off one week and you think that it’s worth not getting the money that week? Those dust bunnies are sitting in the corner just laughing at you because you got lazy. If your mom and dad didn’t go to work for a week with no excuse, then they would more...

...Paper: Should College Athletes be Paid? To have a good research paper, you need to have a good topic that has created many diverse points on each side of the debate. For example, it should be easy to create arguments that relate to the topic. I have chosen to do my research project on whether college athletes should be paid. I have always enjoyed sports and i think this would be a great topic for me to pursue. For many years now the NCAA and College Universities have been debating whether nor not athletes should be paid. Each year the debate gets more intense. I picked this interesting topic because over the past couple years I have been hearing a lot of conversation whether college athletes should be paid. This biggest reason this topic is coming about is because top colleges make enormous profits on athletics. In fact, it’s been said that D1 schools make hundreds of millions of dollars. For example, Alabama has made over 90 million dollars in profit due to superior athletics. Because of this, questions have been raised whether or not athletes creating the money should get paid for it. If college athletes were to get paid, a lot would have to happen. The NCAA would have many questions to answer. What sports get paid? Do all athletes get paid? Will Divisions 2 and 3 athletes get paid? How much will the athletes get paid? Paying college athletes would certainly be a difficult task, but it’s defiantly an interesting topic to talk about. In my opinion, I believe paying college athletes...

...you are making the investment in a project, or making an investment in a long-term asset, or attempting to get long-term financing for your own projects or investments – it is not OK to consider the cash flows in terms of current dollars. The existence of inflation means that a dollar today will buy more than that same dollar next year. The year-to-year effect may be small when inflation is low, as it is now, but when your investment horizon is measured in decades instead of months, that inflation effect can get very large. If you are not sure what I mean by “large” – just ask your parents (or aunts, uncles, friends who are 15-20 years older than you) how much they paid for a gallon of gas when they were in college. For me, I graduated from college in 1996, and in that year, I usually paid about $1.30 for the gallon of gas that now costs me $3.50. I paid about $1.00 per pound for a whole chicken. Now that same chicken costs $1.35 per pound. That’s a 30% increase for the chicken, over the last 16 years…and for the gas? It’s a 169% increase over the same period. You can see from this example that inflation is not the only thing that makes prices go up over time, because if it was, then the bread would increase by 30% and so would the gas. This is not the case (30% vs 169%). So there are other factors under consideration. With the gas, the “other factors” have to do with long-term supply of the commodity, as well as the geopolitical situation. In this course, we’re...

...grade class 60 percent of teens admit that they do not spends their money wisely. Should teens get paid for chores a question parents might be asking and this essay will answer that inquiry NO teen should get paid for doing chores because, They might get greedy or mean. They might have trouble finding jobs in the future. If you pay your kid most of the time they won’t spend their money wisely. They need to learn to do chores and not get paid, because no adults get paid for doing chores. A good reason teens shouldn't get paid for chores is because they don’t use their money as wisely as adults. They are adolescents and their brain isn't fully developed, therefore they will not make wise decisions with their money. Teens might be gambling at their age and waste...

...Should College Athletes be Paid? Why should college athletes be paid or not? In this article it says, “Big time college football and basketball programs generate billions a year in TV and marketing contracts, tickets sales, and merchandising.” Why I choose this topic is because If the college players don't bring any money for the TV , tickets, and merchandising then that is wrong. They should, at least, have 10% of what they sell that has the player's last name on it .I am on the pro side why I am is because If a person buys an item that has something to do with them, then they should be paid a little amount of what the regular price is of the item. I am going to tell you a few Pros about college players getting paid. First of all, in the text it says, “ Big time college football and basketball programs generate billions a year.” My question is how does the franchise make billions a year. They make billions a year from the players who, when the games and consistently bowl games and don't even bring a little bit poor because people consider they are amateurs and they will do something poor with the money like use it on things that...

...Overpaid? Have you ever considered how much money does an average person need to be able to have food three times a day, have a house, be able to send their children to school to get an education and even have a car? Realistically, all of this plus a little more can be done with an income of between $45,000 and $55,000 easily. For some reason, it was decided by us, people who labor is harder than the most, like janitors, factory workers, and even factory workers, should be paid less than someone that sits on a desk all day or someone that gets paid to play a game for living. Athletes today are the highest paid people in the world, with the exclusion of Donald Trump and Bill Gates. If you think about it, it is absurd to believe that someone is really worth millions of dollars and all they do is play a sport. Millions of people would do this for free if they had the chance. For that reason, I believe professional athletes are overpaid for many reasons. In USA Today Magazine, under section Your Life it says, “Although many professional athletes apparently still feel underpaid, just two percent of the public agrees, according to a survey conducted by Roper Starch Worldwide. In fact, the vast majority of Americans think athletes are overpaid.”(USA Today) This is ridiculous to hear for these athletes already making millions of dollars which is way more than they deserve. Also, in this article it states that professional athletes get paid what our economy will bear. For...

...Bergantin * This may be goodbye I read all your messages and I'm trying to figure out exactly what I owe you. See here's the thing when you pulled the money from the rent I had paid you, I asked how much and you said around 1200 total. I made 2 deposits of 500 and gave you the money for Josh's stuff which was 280 and I gave you an extra 120 for you to take the kids around. I ended up giving you 1400 to replace the 1200 that had been spent. The money that had been taken was to pay bills and get some stuff we needed. That's fine but since I replaced it that means I paid for all of it. Then in May you said I owed you for May's rent well how is that since I replaced more than what was taken out. I still gave you the extra money in May for rent I didn't actually owe. I ended up up staying up there with you for 7 1/2 months in which I paid you 7 1/2 months in rent. I also paid my part of the bills for May. I also paid for Josh's stuff again, for what? so he would have it for a month and get out and be a jerk? I have letters saying he would pay me back. Yea ok. So let me get this straight then, you say I owe you for June which I don't. Yes I said I would help pay the extra on the water bill and I will, when I get my check. How did we get to this point? Technically I paid for the rack because it was paid for with the money I had to replace. But I'm not going to do what you're doing. You said you would deduct the freezer from what I owed but you're not are you? well keep it...

...with how much they should get paid. In my opinion, I believe that they should get paid a good bit of money. I believe this because, they work hard there whole life at that one thing to have success in life. They are almost the same as actors, and they try hard to get there. So lets give them credit for what they do and who they are. Pro athletes work hard their whole life to become famous and accomplish there dreams. That means they play sports their whole life to be super successful and likely work hard in school too. So basically they try hard and meet their goal through doing things that they like to such as school work and long days of practice, but if they want to be a pro they have to try very hard to get there. All them goals, achievements, and successful things they do should afford them a desired salary. In my research, the players get paid based on the sport they play and what I mean by that is they get paid a different amount of money for each sport which shows some work harder than others but they all work hard in my opinion. So basically, they all work hard during all parts of life to make it there. These...

...that student athletes should be paid. How does one determine who should be paid, how much and where does this money come from? Athletes are amateurs who should concentrate on their education. How does one determine if an athlete is an amateur or a professional? An amateur is one who cannot receive money in the form of salaries or endorsements. They play a sport for the love and desire of it. A professional on the other hand gets paid a salary or money for endorsements. Professionals are also more skilled and concentrate one hundred percent on their sport. Amateurs do not have the time to only commit to a sport since they have to attend classes or work to support themselves. If student Athletes did get paid, college sports would lose their competitive hype. Let’s look at football on a college level compared to the pros. Athletes playing on a college level (amateur) give every play their all trying to do whatever it takes to win with hopes of someday be picked to go pro. Pro football players on the other hand, do not give every play one hundred percent. They are afraid of being hurt and know regardless of the game’s outcome they will still get paid. What if the athlete does not make it to the professional level? These student athletes need to make sure they have an education they can fall back on. These student athletes are students first before the athlete. In the classroom, they are students just like everyone else. None of them are paid for getting an A on a test or for...

...Should Students Get Paid at School? Would you like to get paid at school? The idea of students getting paid at school is very important to think about. My personal opinion is that students should get paid at school because it gives the student a real world experience. I think students should get paid at school because students will learn to be independent. If students get good marks they will earn money. Since the students will earn money, they will rely on themselves to buy supplies, clothes, games and more for themselves. Students will not have to go to their parents to ask for money to buy things. Students won’t have to go their parents to ask for money when there are fundraisers at school or any trips. Since the students have money they will learn to spend money wisely. They won’t spend money on things they If students start to get paid at school they will experience having a job. They will learn that if they do well they will get paid more which is what happens at a job. When you do a good job at work your boss pays your more. Also students will learn to handle money. When students start to earn money they will know how to use and spend the money. They won’t spend the money on useless things as much as they would when they don’t get paid at school. Students don’t understand how much work it takes to earn money and so they keep on spending money. When they start earning money they will understand how to use and spend...

NCAA president Mark Emmert says, “They are not professionals so they should not be getting millions of dollars at all” (Romans). Colleges rake in about 800 million dollars a year in just the sport of basketball so why are not the college athletes that play at a very high elite level not getting paid. CNN reporter say that the colleges make 800 million but they bring in 500 million in endowment (Romans).Endowment is just an income or form of property that has been given.
