From the time that I could understand the English language, I have always remembered hearing in one way or another about the benefits of education on one’s life. Whether it have been watching a
Hooked on Phonics commercial, playing with letter/number blocks or watching reading rainbow or
Sesame Street on television, it seems like the basis has always been on the importance of learning new things. Virtually every job I have ever held or position I have worked in, required some form of education to complete the task. Whether this requirement was a high school diploma, in the case of military enlistment or on-the-job training on how to complete administrative tasks as a brand new
Marine, education has always been of the utmost importance. According to Achieve Inc. (2012) Jobs that required limited skills--but still paid a family-supporting wage--have disappeared and increasingly have been replaced with jobs that require higher levels of education. The reality is that high school graduates that lack additional education/training face mostly dim and dead-end career prospects.
Prospects are much dimmer for those who fail to finish high school at all.
From my experiences thus far, I have seen first-hand just how essential education is for all people. As a Marine Corps recruiter working in Ann Arbor, MI, I had many interactions with young men and women of varying backgrounds who had many different aspirations and life desires. One chief desire that many of these individuals had in common was the need to pursue further education past the high school level. Some desires were to go off to a college or university to earn a degree in any number of subjects. Some desires were

...Past, Present, & Future Paper GEN 480 Celena Hadlock Past, Present, & Future Paper The Past Upon starting my education with the University of Phoenix program I was unemployed and actively seeking re-employment. Prior to losing my job I was running an exceptional sports program at one of our organizations premier facilities in a very affluent community. However, I was feeling as though I had hit a plateau in my career and professional development due to not having my degree. The next areas of professional growth for me in my field involve becoming an Executive Director or an Association Youth Sports Director, but both of these positions require me to possess a degree. Not having my degree completely removed these career options from my reach and left me trapped in a dead position without much room for future upward growth or mobility. I felt that finding time to continue my education and secure my degree was not an option. Continuing my education was very important for my personal growth and development. Experiencing the rewards of learning both as a student and as certified CPR and Lifeguard instructor of several years I feel strongly about the role that learning plays in an individual’s development. Learning new things helps to keep individuals connected and engaged in the world around us and adds understanding and value to our lives. Learning impacts every part of who we are as human beings and increases the potential for who we can...

Importance of Education

...Education “Education is a key to success.” It gives us knowledge of the world around us, while opening doors to brilliant career opportunities. Education builds confidence to make decisions, to face life, and to accept successes and failures. The best way to reach career success is to map out a strategy and set goals.  Education can be a source that could lead someone for a better future. Having seventeen or eighteen years of waking up early in the morning, doing home works and projects and staying late at night to study for exams is not an easy task to do. But, for you, what is success? For some, success is the accomplishment of the goal aimed by a person. But for me, success means that it is one way of proving to others that I have determination and patience with what I am doing. Also, it is telling to others that I am willing to do everything just to reach my goals. And how come education becomes the key to success? In today’s modern and competitive society, we cannot deny the fact that we must equip ourselves with plenty of knowledge, thoughts or ideas and skills in order for us to enhance God’s given talents for us. Also, through education, we can learn more and improve ourselves in whatever field we do have. Professionals like pharmacists, doctors, engineers and lawyers surely gave importance to their education. Why Is Education Important to Me?

...“Why college education is important to me?” Education is important to me because it’s the foundation to my life’s future accomplishments. Education is the process of gaining knowledge which provides both power and freedom. Nelson Mandela said in his speech lighting your way to a better future, “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.” (Mandela, 2003) The world has so much to offer, that I cannot pick just one specific career. I hope someday that my ambitious path will benefit not only myself, but my community and other countries. My goals are to become an SSI scuba diver instructor, a business owner, an accountant, and much more. I know I have to take one step at a time, but I will take full advantage to any opportunity that comes my way with an open mind and joyous heart. Education brings forth multiple opportunities that can help one learn how to value life experiences and form opinions and views of the world, whilst empowering one’s self personally and socially. Malcolm X said, “Without education, you are not going anywhere in this world.” (Malcolm X Quotes, 2001-2014) The world is made up of different races and cultures; we must be educated in order to understand others’ culture, beliefs, religions, etc. We must be educated to make responsible and reasonable life decisions. Malcolm X also said, “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” (Malcolm X Quotes, 2001-2014) In a less broad...

Personal Responsibility

...determine the outcome of the future and the degree of success. Personal responsibility skills are lacking these days with the high rise of crime, especially with teenagers. Often enough, I hear my children’s friends blaming problems or trouble on other friends or on their parents. This is a direct connection of not taking person responsibility. An article clearly stated this as “Parental responsibility is being embraced as an important method for preventing future juvenile delinquency’ (White, Augosustino & Taplin, 2007). I’ve always made a conscious effort to teach my children the difference between right and wrong. This includes making good choices and when they haven’t, they need to face the consequences. Personal responsibility is showing respect to oneself and peers. This is an ongoing life lesson that will need to be continually developed when encountering different types of who will challenge it. Using these skills in college and life correctly will lead to a successful outcome. Starting college and identifying the correct career path is the first start. Achieving the goals set will come if it’s visualized first. According to Cheema and Bagchi (2011) “This research demonstrates that as people approach a goal, external representations, which increase the ease of visualizing the goal, enhance goal pursuit” (p. 109). Writing down short and long term goals will help to stay focused on these dreams. Even breaking these down into shorter goals, such as monthly, daily...
