How Westland/Hallmark Put Profit Above Safety Westland/Hallmark Meat is very well known for a famous case because the beef problem. They not only supply the schools and also the fast food all around the world before everything happened, at the year 2007 the are posted and reported to rebuses the cow ! Everyone is very shocked, and USDA had to recall the beef which had already had entered the market, but it was too late already. The plant would close forever, people who involved in the violation had been collapsed, and all 220 employees lost their job.

In this case, Westland/Hallmark Meat is very well known for a famous case because the beef problem. The key problems are the importance of business ethics and between the owners and staff together with shareholders. Everyone is very shocked, and USDA had to recall the beef which had already had entered the market, but it was too late already..
Who push all the staff to act like that way? In the meat industry, obviously the managers and employers put the profitability of the company above the safety of the employees. The meat packing industry is considered as a high-risk industry. In this industry, employees have to deal with the meat cutting and processing machines in the factory (Moore, 1998). These machines can be very dangerous to use sometimes. Also the workers have to work very long hours. The meat packing industry is a highly labor-intensive industry. Since the supply of meat to the market needs to be constant and steady, the workers have to work both day and night to make sure that they can meet the needs and concerns in the market.
This maybe be different if they take actions
Due to the long time hard labor, workers in the meat packing industry can easily suffer from some diseases such as joints and muscle problems (Paul, 2001). The treatments of these diseases require a lot of medical care. The companies are unwilling to pay for the costs due to profits concerns. To these companies, the profitability is the primary goal and concern of the company. They do not really care much about the welfare of their employees. This is definitely not responsible.
. First of all, the employers should change their opinions about the relationship between profitability and employee welfare. They should value profits, but they should care more about the welfare of the employees as well (Sanders, 1992). Both two aspects are of critical importance. Also, they should purchase insurance for their employees. It is the responsibility of the company to provide adequate insurance and protection for their employees. The welfare of the employees matters as much as profits.

Summary and Conclusions
