HOW TO PLANT A GARDEN Have you ever gotten frustrated at the grocery store over the prices of fresh fruit and vegetables? Or wish you knew how to save some money on your food bill? Well I’m going to share with you my answer to these issues, plant a garden. You can choose what plants you put in your garden so you can have your favorite fresh fruits and vegetables, even when they are not in season and not have to pay those high prices for them. First you need to pick the best spot for your garden, pick a spot that gets a lot of sunlight, the more hours of sunlight the better for your garden. Second make a list of what fruits and vegetables you want to put in your garden and how many. For example if you really like fresh green beans, you might want to plant more of them than something you will not use as much of say like tomatoes. Make a diagram of your garden and plan which plants are getting planted where in your garden, keeping in mind that you do not want to plant vine plants such as watermelons next to your tomatoes plants as to vine plants will overtake standing plants. Third you need to prepare the land by tilling. Tilling is when you turn up the ground. Years ago this was done with tool called a hoe; this required a lot of back breaking labor. Today there are tools called tillers which make the work much easier and faster. Tilling will allow the ground to get more oxygen and also is a good way to kill the weeds. When I am planting my garden I use an organic weed killer at this point to decrease the weeds pulling I will have to do while the garden is growing. Remove any foreign objects that you may find during tilling, for example one year I found several plastic army men and glass, only god knows how long those army men had been buried under ground, you would be surprised at what you will
