Hurricane Irma could have been the first hurricane I would have experienced, It wasn't. On Wednesday September 6, schools where closed on Thursday and Friday due to hurricane Irma. This wasn't the first time a hurricane was approaching Florida but it certainly was the first time since I had come to live here that there was a high chance of risk of it actually reaching and hitting Miami. My family was in chaos, plans for reservations at hotels, booking tickets to go back to my country, worrying if my rented houses old dirty roof would be swept off in the fast 100 mp wind, and if the home owners would sue us for any type of damage. Those three days Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday where a rush of preparation and feeling of anxiety.

My dad put up the shutters in the early morning with the help of my older brother and left to work as always right after. Compared to yesterday the roads where right in comparison to those of a ghost town. I had planned to take that day of and doze off to probably till two in the afternoon in my bed. My mom had other plans. As it turns out last night my parents managed to buy sold out plane tickets to Mexico with the help of one of my dad's colleague's, and that plane was leaving guess when? At exactly 2 in the afternoon. My mom woke me up and told me, "Grab four changes of clothes, we're leaving in an hour!" I reluctantly did as I was told and grabbed my bag which I regularly take on trips and packed it with stuff to entertain myself. Having gotten ready I went to go put my stuff in my car when my mom informed me I could not bring anything but what I can bring by hand which meant no bag. I was furious, what would I use to entertain myself and the trip, and how about the things I wanted to save in case something did happen to my house! I took out my sketch book and my prismacolors I grabbed my red leather jacket with the many pockets and managed to shove in my charger a book and a set of graphite pencils and took my sketchbook and prismacolor tin by hand.
