...everything is an outcome of a previous action or choice. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking how I got where I am today, right now. Where did these friends come from? Why am I wearing these specific clothes today? How did I get here? It’s all because of something. This happens often in the little good and bad things in our everyday lives. One good example of this was when I was going to buy my laptop off of craigslist. My mom and I were driving over to go meet the seller at her house across town so we could negotiate and look at the laptop before we decided to actually purchase it. On the way we got held up in traffic and when we got to the seller someone else had stopped by. They didn’t buy the laptop so the seller might have got a little desperate and decided to only sell the laptop at 60$ as opposed to the original 100$ price tag. We were in great luck, my mom only had the money to buy the laptop; and with the extra $40 I was able to buy a mouse, headphones and a few other helpful accessories. Although this wasn’t a life-defining moment, it still was a great thing and i felt that luck was just going my way. I see things like this happen in variations and on similar or even...

...miss the Saints games. I’ll miss the nice days, but for me, this is the time of year when I’m looking ahead. I’m getting closer to finishing up the software I’ve been working on all summer long. I may actually even get to take a real vacation in a month or two. Plus, with the advent of cooler evenings, I’m actually able to open the windows at home and avoid the noise of the air-conditioner and fans once in a while. And I’ve got a hope that with cooler weather, a break in the work (at least temporarily), and no Saints games taking up my my evenings, I’ll find more time to get out and ride my trike. And it’s been this way since I started my business. I’ve always tried to take on less work over the summers, but every year but one I’ve been working on a project that was originally supposed to be done in May, and ended up finishing around September. It’s a chronic problem in the software field, but being an outsider on these projects, I wonder why companies don’t bite off smaller chunks so they can let their employees take some time off during the summer when the ankle-biters are home from school, and families want to take vacations. And just for completeness’ sake, I should note that the one summer I had off, I was working on a project that was running late, and when hit with completely unreasonable demands on my time in May, I left the project, rather than ruin my summer (there was more to it than that, but the short version is accurate enough for the web). I’d have a perfect...

...Young Adult Prelog I can’t believe I finally received my logging journal, this entry may be a few hours early but no one has to know. Tomorrow is the big day, the fifteenth commemorative day of my birth and the first day of my five year transition to adulthood. It’s been such a long time coming! Everyone says I’m going to miss being a minor and living with my family but I don’t think so, this is going to be fun! All week I’ve been running back and forth with my parents to the young adult center, and finally all of my arrangements are in place. I’ve been assigned to the VERY BEST young adult housing unit (unit 5, the one with a POOL), I was chosen to receive agricultural training, and I even had my first nutrient analysis! I was so tired of that generic slop they feed the minors, but not any more! They...

...Julia. For the short 3 months and 11 days that I knew Julia. I've learned something that no book could possibly ever teach me. On our Journey together I was constantly being moved and touched in ways that I often cannot describe. To live with Alzheimer's and still laugh, love and find joy is nothing short of amazing. I never got that chance to meet Julia when she was full of life and energy. Instead God blessed me with Julia on May 6th of this year. God had also blessed me with the ability to really connect with Julia. I spent many nights by her bedside, I've spent many hours listening, I've shared many tears with her daughter's and I've experienced many lifelong connections. Julia taught me the importance of living in the moment and finding joy in the small things. No two minutes were alike. Things were constantly changing and it put us on the wildest roller coaster ride imaginable. I must say it took a while and I'm sure I'm speaking for a few others when I say this but I came to realize that in order to survive, you must live in the moment and appreciate each and every good thing that happens, no matter how small. Sometimes you really have to dig deep to find the good in a lousy situation. The interesting thing is that bar is constantly moving. That thing that may have seemed completely insignificant a few months ago, can suddenly become the joy that gets you through each day. That became more apparent to me with each passing day. 2 1/2 months ago, the fact that Julia...

...I’ve kept this for so long… was too bashful then. Now lost times haunt me big time (yet bashful still). I’m not expecting a reply for this, no more. I mean, first of all, you hardly know me and I’m not even sure if you still remember me. I just don’t wanna deprive you of the due compliment. The fact that I’ve sent this, it already paid it all actually. The sentiment, the time, and the other ones indescribable, they were given justice at the instant. And so I thank you. As I’ve mentioned in the letter, I hope this serves a thing of inspiration to you (well, at the most). My only prayer is that this crap will hopefully make you more feel good about yourself; even for just a little or even for a single second perhaps. There’s really nothing much I can do now to return the favor back but this. You seem to have all things by far. Ako naman, I got everything to offer that is when pigs fly. I should have given this during the Joy Luck Club time. The original letter is preserved since then, except for the month stuff… you’ll see. A little look back from those times will probably help you understand some jargon. Ooh by the way, if you’re wondering, I got your account from the people search engine via the UP site… and definitely with some help from a friend named Marnie. Hope you don’t mind. Ei just to clarify, I’m no stalker here. Needed to say that, you might be freaked out. Ding! Another offense. Did some net surfing just lately and also found out curly long...

...alternative courses of action to resolve a difficult workplace issue • Understand more fully the implications of "eating time" and "premature sign-off" • More fully appreciate the need to balance professional and personal demands Brent Dorsey graduated eight months ago with a master's degree in accounting. After graduating, Brent began working with a large accounting firm in Portland. He is now on his second audit engagement—a company called Northwest Steel Producers. Working day-to-day with Brent on the audit are two other staff auditors, Scott Olsen and Megan Mills, along with the senior auditor, John Peters. Scott and Megan are both second-year staff accountants and are anticipating a promotion to senior in the next year. John Peters has been with the firm for about five years and has been a senior-level auditor for almost three years. Following this busy season, the partners and managers will sit down and decide which seniors to promote to managers. The rumor around the office is that only four or five of the seven eligible seniors in the office will be promoted in the Portland office. Those not promoted in Portland will most likely be asked to transfer to other offices within the firm that need new managers. Some may even be "counseled out" of the firm. John has done a reasonably good job in the audits he's been in charge of, yet he feels he is "on the bubble" as far as the promotion in Portland goes. He has recently received several performance evaluations that have criticized...

...When I graduated University of Southern California in May of 2014, I was so ashamed of my 2.59 GPA, I didn’t even want my parents to fly to California to see me walk on Graduation Day. I still didn’t know what I wanted to do with my Bachelor’s in Social Sciences; and in fact, I didn't have any further plans beyond that point. I tried applying to this program, months before graduation, but got cold feet. I also tried searching for a job in California, but that also failed and I was forced to move back with my parents in South Carolina. I had no car of my own, therefore, it would be ten times harder to find and keep a job in a small town with my kind of degree, and with no public transportation. My mom recommended a part-time job; she works at...
