...five year old after eating a chocolate bar. I'm more healthy since I choose to have a no meat diet. In fact I don't think I ever could go back to eating meat. I've had more energy. I've made better health choices. I'm more aware of how nutritious the food I'm putting in my body is. I've even cut out a lot of the fast food and junk I use to eat. Going to no meat was one of the best decisions I made. My family may not agree with it, but I'm very happy with being in control of what I decide to eat. I've wanted to be a vegetarian since I was a little girl. One time when I was in second grade I actually stopped eating meat for a few weeks. Though when you're younger it's harder...

...“Earth's Bounty” is a restaurant that severs vegetarian westernized food. The food is kept at a low priced to reach out to not only vegans and vegetarian’s, but also a younger generation seeking to try something different. Earth Bounty will be open 24 hours and mostly populated within the suburban area. Earth's Bounty goal is to attract a younger audience from the ages of 16-24, research shows that this age demographic makes up the largest vegetarian/vegan population. Another target audience Earth's Bounty is tying to market to are people that are looking for a healthier food alternative when deciding to dine out because vegetarian food is known for being healthily. By being located in suburban area’s it’ll make eating healthier an option over the abundant amount of fast food restaurants. Both vegans and vegetarians need more local restaurants to go to so they don’t have to worry about food cross contamination. Knowing that vegetarian food is healthier then most non vegetarian dishes, the market for healthy eaters would likely help the success of this brand. Few restaurants offer vegetarian meals but in my personal experience their is a huge market that hasn’t been fully exploited. With Earth’s Bounty being urban, warm and inviting with the use of toned down greens and warm browns, customers will feel welcoming and come in and try food maybe a little out of there comfort zone. A competitor Earth's Bounty is up against is Nuba Restaurant on 207B West Hastings. This restaurant...

...29 April 2013 Going Vegetarian In today’s fast-paced, modern and practical society people are becoming more health conscious. This includes trying to choose the best available options for a beneficial lifestyle. They are becoming more concerned these days about the increasing health risks of a meat-based diet. On the other hand, others have taken a step further and believed that animal cruelty involved in killing animals and using them for their products is inhumane and should be outlawed. Vegetarianism used to be an unusual lifestyle choice. Today it is becoming more common and accepted by mainstream society. While there are many reasons for choosing a vegetarian diet, the most important are health reasons, environmental and economic reasons, and, above all, ethical reasons. Well as my sustainability project, a lifestyle change that is good for me and good for the planet, I decided to go vegetarian for a week meaning no meat, no gelatin, or fish. I knew I wasn’t going to have any trouble with fish because I don’t like seafood but meat, I didn’t know if I could last a whole week. March 11 was the first day I started the experiment and of course I had no trouble at all since it was the first day. I actually felt really good going into this and … It felt like nothing on the second day also and found myself just getting another César salad. From the looks of it, I thought I might actually be able to do this and accomplish my goal by not eating any meat. But I spoke too...

...pissed off, and food is just awful. II. Body A. International plane ticket is not worth the money because it takes almost a day to get to your destination. 1. I recently went to India for two and half weeks, it was pretty fun but the airlines I took to get there was just horrible. The flight is about twenty hours long and it seriously made me go nuts. 2. I really regretted paying one thousand dollars for this flight, it was just not worth the money. I honestly feel that they need to come up with better service. Transition: After taking the flight I put my luggage up and took my seat which was on the aisle. B. Small seats which you have to sit on during the whole destination really takes a lot out of you. 1. I’m pretty tall so for me to sit in those seats for 20 hours was really tough. I had two old people who were sitting next to me, they kept on distracting me which didn’t let me sleep. 2. I honestly feel that airlines should make their seats little bigger so that people can be comfortable. Only if you buy the business class ticket you get those big seats which is not fair. Nine hundred dollars is still lot of money so they definitely should make this change in their airlines. Transition: As I was sitting in my seat the air hostess bought food for all the passengers which just made everything worse. C. China Southern airlines gives you the worst food you can ever have. 1. I had already gotten enough from the flight but...

...Going Vegetarian Many people believe that vegetarians aren’t able to find meatless items at restaurants. It may seem to be more difficult, but according to the “Vegetarian Times” eight out of ten restaurants in the United States offer vegetarian choices. Although being a vegetarian can be challenging, the benefits outweigh the burdens. Today, there are many healthy, vegetarian choices in restaurants around the world. For example, apples and yogurt can even be found at McDonalds! “Farmer’s Weekly” says that not only is a vegetarian diet healthy but it also helps cut greenhouse gases, conserve water, and conserve land. Today, many people are trying to become eco-friendly and don’t know what they can do to help. Giving up meat is a healthy choice for you, for the animals, and it could even help solve world hunger. Many people, when they think of becoming vegetarian, wonder how they are going to get enough protein and iron in their diet. According the book, The Case for Vegetarianism, people are mistaken in thinking that protein comes from animals. Protein actually comes from plant food, meaning that all animals get protein through the food they eat. When trying to figure out what foods have protein, whole grains, beans, nuts, eggs, and peas are all high in protein, as well as all dairy products. To be the healthiest, one’s diet should include a variety of whole foods. Excess protein actually puts stress on the liver and kidney and is also linked with calcium...

...Research Term Paper Vladimir Duverger Tues, Thurs (11:15-12:30) November 6th, 2014 To begin, Haitian culture is a very diverse and was engrained into me as I grew up, being that I had a Haitian mother. One of the most diverse things about the culture and one thing that many people can agree with, is the food. As for me, that's one of my favorite things about being Haitian-Dominican decent as I get to eat the amazing food. But another culture who's food is a big part of their being, are Asians and their style of cooking and what they eat and what they make, and etc. So I thought, why not visit or get in depth with another culture whose food is a huge part of their being. And for this paper, I've decided to get into Asian food and how it differs from my culture as well as the importance it plays in their culture. To continue, as I began to think of where I can go to try real Asian food to really speak on for this essay, I remembered about my neighbor. My neighbor whom is of Chinese descent owns restaurant called 'Asia Town'. When I approached him about wanting to learn about different Asian foods and taste them, he invited me for a free meal at his restaurant to try some of his popular dishes. He even explained to me that a lot of his food is cooked by himself and though he gets help from his mother, he makes sure to keep the 'Asian style' in his food. A lot of popular buffets make their food 'mainstream' according to him and he mentioned to me...

...although that sounds like a lot it's not they need this to survive a lot of people think that the Amazon is being used for improper reasons this is fair in many ways. but I disagree if people are using the already developed land for good reasons why should we stop them. After all the government to tell them to move and when do all of them a lot. now it may seem like I'm shifting sides But I'm not I'm looking at it strategically if the Amazon is already been developed and we're still debating whether we should use as an. This is a very important concept. as well as Finding out what people need to survive. So when doing this you taken a lot of consideration and I have come to the conclusion that someone should deserve 1% of the already developed like and if needed they shall be granted a little more just so they can recycle and reuse the land I have already in previous time. I will also like to 2 put this idea that Amazonians and settlers should now have a contract or treating showing that they shall not Rob heel excetera from each other this will be a peace treaty between both groups. ...October 11, 2009 The Food Issue Against Meat By JONATHAN SAFRAN FOER THE FRUITS OF FAMILY TREES When I was young, I would often spend the weekend at my grandmother’s house. On my way in, Friday night, she would lift me from the ground in one of her fire-smothering hugs. And on the way out, Sunday afternoon, I was again taken into the air. It wasn’t until years later that I realized she was weighing me. My grandmother survived World War II barefoot, scavenging Eastern Europe for other people’s inedibles: rotting potatoes, discarded scraps of meat, skins and the bits that clung to bones and pits. So she never cared if I colored outside the lines, as long as I cut coupons along the dashes. I remember hotel buffets: while the rest of us erected Golden Calves of breakfast, she would make sandwich upon sandwich to swaddle in napkins and stash in her bag for lunch. It was my grandmother who taught me that one tea bag makes as many cups of tea as you’re serving, and that every part of the apple is edible. Her obsession with food wasn’t an obsession with money. (Many of those coupons I clipped were for foods she would never buy.) Her obsession wasn’t with health. (She would beg me to drink Coke.) My grandmother never set a place for herself at family dinners. Even when there was nothing more to be done — no soup bowls to be topped off, no pots to be stirred or ovens checked — she stayed in the kitchen, like a vigilant guard (or prisoner) in a tower. As far as I could tell,...

...Pollan gives up meat for a while, inspired by an argument of Peter Singer: "No one in the habit of eating an animal can be completely without bias in judging whether the conditions in which that animal is reared cause suffering" (312). Yet he identifies himself as "a reluctant and, I fervently hoped, temporary vegetarian" (313), so it's not at all clear that the experiment does anything to lessen his bias. As a vegetarian, Pollan struggles with the social ramifications of eating differently. He points out that "my new dietary restrictions throw a big wrench into the basic host-guest relationship" (313) and decides, "I'm inclined to agree with the French, who gaze upon any personal dietary prohibition as bad manners" (313). Yet he'll find himself able to justify only a very limited kind of meat-eating, which likewise represents a "personal dietary prohibition." He then proceeds to discuss his alienation from traditions like the Passover brisket, apparently not allowing for the possibility that traditions might evolve over time. This rigid view of tradition is an odd one considering his plans to hunt an unkosher pig. Pollan then moves on to a discussion of animal rights philosophy. He claims to be debating Peter Singer, but he'll quote Matthew Scully when it better suits his point, never acknowledging any significant difference between the writers. Other times, he'll just quote Singer out of context. Pollan eventually argues for meat-eating on the grounds that it serves the...

This is the only present and the most important present that I would be extremely grateful for and I’m sure my fellow us citizens agree. Ironically I know a great bit about spainish cuisine. ...Personally, I enjoy and enormous mound of Mexican four-cheese on my chili cheese fries, a heaping mound of dairy that melts through the chili and leaves strings when you pull off a fry. My cheese, the gooey mound that brings my cultural identity together is the culture I most identify with: the nerd. That’s right, I personally identify as an intelligent, unconcerned with popularity, cheesy nerd. Like the stereotypical nerd, my dancing and singing skills are utterly horrible. I don’t give any thought to how I look or what I wear. I make good grades, I’m obsessed with robotics, I go psycho-crazy for a good book, and everything about my personality is… cheesy… This cheesy nerdiness exists in a heaping mound that runs through and envelops all other aspects of my cultural identity, you can see it as soon as you look at me, and you never stop seeing it, it’s always there. Like all the pieces of my cultural identity, it shows up in the way I talk and the way I look and move and dance and interact with others, but unlike the other ingredients that make up me, my nerdiness is something you can clearly see and immediately understand through everything I...

...Blue Zones are consistently active because of their living circumstances and hobbies, such as gardening. I am most interested in the idea of an 80% rule when consuming meals. Initially, it seemed a bit odd to me. Seeing as the tradition originates as far back as the words of Confucius, it appears that the rule is very serious to those who live by it. As I aspire to be a nurse, I hope to live an active lifestyle because of the conditions of my career. I also enjoy cooking elaborate meals from time to time, and I hope to start getting some exercise by trying out healthy recipes on a regular basis, instead of eating out. I’d like to try the 80% rule as soon as possible, since it’s really intriguing to me. I already try to space out meals, but I’m guilty of overeating on occasion. Now I’ll make a conscious goal to stop eating before my stomach is full. I am most willing to try a Mediterranean diet as enjoyed by the Ikarians. I love almost all new foods, and I have never tried this style previously. Despite not knowing exactly why, I’ve always heard that olive oil was much healthier, and so I’ve tried to incorporate it in most meals as a substitute for vegetable oil. The Ikarian diet is rich in plant-based nutrition, which includes vegetables, beans, grains, and generous helpings of olive oil. This diet is shown to contribute to a lower risk of heart disease among those who follow it, which may result in large part from the presence of antioxidants in raw olive oil, known as polyphenols...

...In high school, I had a problem with eating too much fast food. Also I was against anybody who was a vegetarian. I could not understand why anybody would just want to eat just green food. I always said no matter what I wouldn’t just eat greens over any other food. Around the end of 10th grade, my friend Jason didn’t like how much fast food I ate because he was a vegetarian. Since he was a vegetarian, I would always give him a hard time about it. I called him a punk because of the simple fact that he was vegetarian. So one day he got enough of it and made a bet with me. The bet was that I couldn’t go on a veggie diet for a whole week. Because I have so much pride, I accepted the bet. If I lost the bet, I had pay him 100 dollars and vice versa. So it was a lot on the line. I was telling myself that I wasn’t going to lose the bet for nothing. I couldn’t afford to lose the bet so it wasn’t an option. For a second, I started thinking like maybe that wasn’t the smartest bet to take but my pride wouldn’t let me turn down the bet. Initially, I didn’t think it would be easy but I thought I could just breeze right through it. I soon came to realize that wasn’t the case. The first day of the bet started off well. I started the day off with a salad before I went to school. By the time I got to school, I was hungry all over again. I thought the salad was going to keep me full until lunchtime. But I was terribly wrong. It felt like I had not ate at all. I knew after that point that this...
