Intro

From the fourteenth century to the sixteenth century, illustrated books had become a very significant art form in Iran. *IIkhandis know as the Mongol dynasty which rules over Mesopotamia and Iran had formed the revival of these books. The revival began around 1258 to 1336 C.E, the most know of the IIkhandis was Genghis Khan’s grandson Hulegu. He at the time of 1258 C.E, had conquered all of Iran. However he and his people ruled as foreigners and this was used as inspiration for many of the illustrated books of Iran. The books portrayed IIkhanids as kings and heroes of Iranian history. Most notable of the books is the “Shahnama” which is roughly translated to Book of Kings.

Shelia Blair a shoclar mentions that even though the women was an object to them she could reform a tyrant to a good man.

Seljuk painting style

Selijuk artists who where part of the Turkic dynasty of Central Asia were the main art styles used in IIkhanid illustrated books.The selijuk style was mostly seen in painted formarts like the “Bahram Gur in a Peasent’s House” and “Buzgurmihr Masters the Game of Chess.” These artist appeared during the twelfth and thirteen centuries; it was a time were rulers had been tryancial. The Selijuk grew found of the color gold and used it very often in there paitnings. The color was always used in plain backgrounds to make the bold blackness of ink pop out.
