Final Project MBA 5001 - Illinois Tool Works

Final Project MBA 5001 - Illinois Tool Works As stated in part one of the MBA 5001 final project, Illinois Tool Works (ITW) is a diversified manufacturing company headquartered in Glenview, Illinois. It specializes in designing and manufacturing a wide range of engineered products and specialty systems. Many of the 65,000 employees have specialized engineering or scientific expertise which has helped elevate ITW to being a global leader in the area of innovative thinking and patents. ITW’s current patents and pending patents exceeds
21,000. The business operations of ITW are organized into seven categories: Industrial
Packaging, Power Systems and Electronics, Transportation, Food Equipment,
Construction Products, Polymers and Fluids, and All Other. In part two of the final project I will be exploring the impact of six indexes and measurements on sales at Illinois Tool Works. These indexes and measurements are;
Gross Domestic Product, Unemployment Rate, Consumer Price Index, Producer Price
Index, S & P 500, NASDAQ. Although ITW is a globally functioning company with approximately 50% of the company’s total revenues coming from outside the United
States, for the purpose of this paper I am focusing on the U.S. measurements and indexes and their impact on ITW’s total sales. It would take expansive research to provide information on the indexes and measurements from all 54 counties that currently house ITW’s business units. I have also collected data from the above indexes and measures and will present a multivariate regression explaining how the indicators impact sales. In the final part of this paper I have chosen two sources of economic forecast indicators and will explain what the forecast means for ITW.

...Cultural Competency Assessment Cultural Competency Assessment Cultural competency is a combination of attitudes, behaviors, and policies that creates a system within an organization or among groups. It allows people to work together effectively in cross-cultural, diverse situations. Culture is the pattern of behaviors that includes a person’s actions, thoughts, communications, beliefs, values, language, and institutions of social, ethnic, racial, and religious groups. Competence determines whether a person can function effectively as an individual, group, or organization within the context of the cultural behaviors, beliefs, and needs of clients and the communities in which he or she resides (Sutton, 2000). America is considered the “the melting pot” because of the culturally diverse communities we live, work, and play in. Importance of Cultural Competence America is a combination of diverse race and cultures, such as White, Asian, Native American, African American, Hispanic, and many others. Although every culture has created a new way of life in the 21st Century, each group has preserved values and beliefs from his or her original culture. Human service professionals need to provide services with objective, nonjudgmental, knowledgeable, open-mindedness, and the williness to understand the needs of each client. For example, a human service professional not aware of the Native American Child Welfare Policies may remove a child from his or her tribal family, and place that...

Being able to find someone that they are comfortable with talking to has shown tremendous improvement in their day-to-day lives. Part two of this assignment was to provide a detailed treatment plan for a hypothetical client with schizophrenia and a substance use disorder. The treatment plan needs to include assessment options, goals, interventions, and anything else that is relevant. Gateway Foundation Interview

...name of the person I spoke with was Nick Turner. Nick Turner is an outpatient counselor for the Gateway Foundation in the Aurora facility. The first question that I asked Nick was if he could give a brief history lesson about the company? He explained that the Gateway foundation is a non-for profit organization that is dedicated to helping people that are addicted to drugs and/or alcohol. From the counselor I found out that the Gateway Foundation opened its first facility in 1968 in the Cook County area. Since then they have grown into one of the largest and most trusted providers of drug and alcohol abuse treatment services in the United States. During the interview I learned that Gateway has treatment centers located throughout Illinois and are expanding throughout the United States. From speaking with the counselor I could tell that he was really proud of the history of the company and that he is very dedicated to helping people make a difference in their lives. The next question I asked him was what was the primary function of the program? He told me that the main mission of...

Eni Transformation Model

...ENI’s Turnaround & Transformation Model INTRODUCTION Since 1973, Evans Newton Incorporated (ENI) has partnered with educational agencies to provide custom educational solutions that improve student achievement. Designed in 1988, the TargetTeach* Five-Step Process has been continually adapted to the instructional innovations and performance requirements of the U.S. educational system. Today the theoretical and empirical bases of the TargetTeach design are established by independent research and program evaluations that demonstrate its capability to provide the support that schools need as they struggle to make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) under Title I of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB). These evaluations and research verify that TargetTeach negates the socioeconomic and subgroup challenges that schools face in making AYP. THEORETICAL BASE OF ENI’S TURNAROUND & TRANSFORMATION MODEL The TargetTeach Five-Step Process is a design-based intervention program built upon “a „logic model‟ that describes the „theory of action‟” that determines each implementation (Rowan, Correnti, Miller, & Camburn 2009): TargetTeach Five Step Process instructional practice instructional leadership student achievement TargetTeach focuses on both the short-term and long-term results that ENI customers seek as outcomes of their school reform endeavors. A school‟s instructional leadership interrelates with its patterns of instructional practice to comprise a system of transformation...

Student Assessment Methods

...Until recently we have just assumed, based on the fact that a student has graduated high school, that they are going on to college with the basic abilities of reading, writing, and arithmetic, yet we are finding that 40 percent of students entering college do not have these basic skills at the college level. We also assumed that if a student obtained a Bachelor’s degree, they were qualified for entry level work. Yet surveyed employers are stating that “that they are not pleased with the level of critical thinking, analytic reasoning, and writing skills recent graduates possess”. What is happening in our classrooms that are hindering students from being successful beyond their school years? This paper will discuss two established methods of assessing student learning, CCSS and PARCC, their strengths and weaknesses as well as discuss issues involving the assessment of student learning. Standardized Tests Standardized testing was established under the premise that it would improve teaching practices and methods, therefore improving schools. In essence it is deemed as the “report card for the community” and the efficiency of our schools performance. Besides state specific standardized test, other national standardized tests include: * Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT)- administered to students applying to private secondary schools and some public secondary schools * Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT)- voluntary test given...

Quality and Safety in Health Care Management

...May 2012 passed a resolution that addressed the issue of patient safety and quality in health care (Briš & Keclíková, 2012). WHA called for continued improvements in health care quality and patient safety (Briš & Keclíková, 2012). Therefore, there is a need to evaluate the existent health care systems in order to identify the causes of risks and come up with a plan that can improve health care standards. The plan should also aim at improving the safety techniques applied in other high risk industries, such as the mass transportation, chemical engineering, and nuclear power generation sectors (Shillito, Arfanis, & Smith, 2010). According to the accident causation model developed by Reason in 1990, accidents are caused by many factors that work in concert (Shillito, Arfanis, & Smith, 2010). Such accidents must be prevented by instituting the necessary checks and controls within the system (Shillito, Arfanis, & Smith, 2010). According to Shillito, Arfanis, and Smith (2010), checking behavior can improve the quality and safety of the health care system. ...assignment. In this method, students can produce the individual parts of a larger assignment individually and then “assemble” the final work together, as a team. Whether for a semester-long project with several outcomes or a single question during class, collaborative learning can vary greatly in scope and objectives. Cooperative learning, sometimes confused with collaborative learning, describes a method where students work together in small groups on a structured activity. Students are individually accountable for their work but also for the work of the group as a whole, and both products are assessed. Learning Objectives • To explore various instructional approaches to collaborative learning • To understand team-based learning as an approach to collaborative learning • To practice integrating collaborative learning into a course in a way that aligns with student learning objectives and intended outcomes Participants may have varied experience and a limited understanding of collaborative learning and its potential to enhance instruction. Unit 1 of this workshop guide suggests a poll and activity to better understand participants’ background and experience in this area. Once the workshop facilitators have a better understanding of the group, they might decide to introduce some examples that illustrate various collaborative learning methods.
