At 550BC-300BC, Greek men and women wore ionic chitons. Generally, ionic chiton has longer sleeves, fastened with many small brooches at shoulder. Because ionic chiton needs many brooches to fasten, it was very hard to dress if one did not have someone else’s help. Therefore, we can infer that people who wore ionic chiton might have servants, and they might be rich and have high social statues. Also, the luxurious fabric and elaborated draperies on the ionic chiton could show one’s wealth.
In figure 2, we can see that the pearls on the sleeve look very similar to the brooches on the chiton in figure 1. They both create “holes” on the arms. Therefore, the design in figure 2 is the contemporary adaptation of the ionic chiton. Also, there are
