Personal Narrative-It's Time To Grow Up

...It's 2:25 am and I almost snapped a selfie that involved a bottle, my baby, and half of my face (the good side, of course). Then I stopped myself. "I do NOT feel like having people judge the fact that we have to formula feed most of Aria's diet due to my body's lack of being a milk factory," I told myself. As soon as as I hit the home button on my phone, I remembered how I really felt. "Not like what we care about them anyway. Right, Aria?" And with that, Aria fist pumped and took the bottle like a champ. Well, she's two-months-old and fist pumps are still in the reflex stage. But, solidarity, sister. As she finished her bottle and curled up to take her position on my shoulder for burping, she gave me the shyest smile. This girl had no idea that by being born, she completely changed me and how I react to the world....

Personal Narrative-It's Time To Replace The Radiator

...release the fluid but I figured I would pull a prank on my brother. I told him to get under the truck because I couldn’t reach the hose on the bottom of the radiator to let the fluid out. He couldn’t pull the hose out the radiator, so I grabbed the hose and pulled it out. By doing this, all the fluid in the radiator drained onto my brother as he laid on the ground unable to move. I couldn’t let him leave the radiator fluid on his body because it’s unsafe. So I hosed him off, for his safety. It took a few minutes to convince my brother to let me hose him off because it was around fifty degrees Fahrenheit at the time. Once he finally agreed, I couldn’t believe it. The water that comes from the outside facet is always freezing, so he shivered every second the water hit him. After I hosed him down, he was pretty upset and decided to take a break so he could shower. He also mentioned that revenge was going to suck. I looked forward to it honestly. After his shower, we began to work on the truck again. Since the radiator was empty it was time to pull it out. There were five screws holding it in. We took turns taking the screws out but eventually I ended up pulling most of them out. He struggled with one of the screws for about five minutes. I became very impatient and told him to get out the way so I could get this show on the road. Honestly I think Harrison could’ve pulled the screws out easily but he tricked me into doing them all for him. Once all the screws were out, the radiator...

Personal Narrative: It's Time To Stay In Suburban Flats

...On a storming Saturday evening, and was playing an intense Plants vs. Zombies’ game with my little cousin Alan. After playing this intense game I decided to call it a night because the storm was picking up, and it was getting late. As I was laying down it was hard for me to sleep, tossing and turning. As I was looking at Alan across the room, he was sound asleep. For another hour I lay there listening to the storm, until I saw the closet door cracked. So I decided to get up and investigate. I opened the door it was pitch-black, I felt a hand push me into the closet. In the black closet, I kept on falling and falling I realized that I was no longer in my closet. As reached the ground I fell down in a dirty tunnel. I was so confused how my closet became a tunnel, I sit there for fifteen seconds until I heard whistling that’s where I saw a little flying onion with one eye. I was so terrified but it said “oh a human, don’t be scared” it said. I replied “aren’t you going to attack me”, “no I’m not going to hurt you because we need you for the war. Follow me to our boss crazy Dave”. It leads me down the tunnel I decided to follow him, although I did not trust him he was all I had. We finally made it out the tunnel I was shocked, the place was beautiful. The little onion said that he was taking me to a place called Walnut Hills. So it decided to lead me down this amazing place called Chop town. We are passing though Chop Town, as a Pee Shooter emerges from a gas station called pass...

Personal Narrative-It's Time To Pick-Up Videography

...I got my first microphone for Christmas when I was twelve. I set it up along with my late 2000’s webcam, and a bootleg copy of screen recording software. I spent countless hours staying up late at night editing audio levels in Audacity and removing background noise from nasally monologues. It was bad. Eventually, I saved up to buy a nicer microphone, one better designed for voice. There was a clear rise in production value as time went on and my interest in creating something that I would want to watch or listen to increased as well. Eventually, I realized that even the most dedicated YouTuber doesn’t reach success when they’re an overweight 12 year old. In high school, these same ideals stayed with me. Any time we had an open-ended project, I would choose to make a video. Writing lines of dialogue, practicing them over and...

After debating whether I should do jump or not I quickly decided yes and approached the window swinging my legs over the window sill. I then took a few breathes looked down one last time and jumped. Blank Pages Of Life: Winakur's Analysis

...It means that an ill person is telling his story through someone else’s perspective and observation. (Charise, 2015) Winakur’s love in the time of dementia determines the chaos narrative, which is a type of illness narrative that is used to explain and understand the ill person’s story from his perspective. Additionally, Winakur used figurative language to explain how a person with dementia feels and experiences as well as how his family suffer from his illness that has no cure. Likewise, diseases and the experiences of illness are frequently explained using metaphor. Winakur used a metaphor to describe Leonard’s journey, “the story of his life unfolds page by page. Her voice (his wife and caregiver), his story, spills into the tangled interstices of his mind” (Jones et al., 2014, p. 307). This metaphor demonstrates direct comparison of lived experiences of Leonard’s illness and that is how the readers can understand his...

Readers Theatre Performances

...They are readers theatre, chamber theatre, ethnography, and personal narrative. Each of these possess assets that are interesting to me. Readers theatre is a style of theatre where actors do or do not memorize their lines. The actors use vocal demonstration to tell the story rather than props or sets. It is also known as interpretative theatre because the performer interprets the story in his or her own way and so does the audience. Chamber theatre is similar to readers theatre in that both of them use minimal amounts of props and sets. Instead chamber theatre use the work’s original text and the performer again interprets the work the way that he or she best sees it. Ethnography is a form of performance that conducts research. The performer transform the stage from a place of performance to a place of participatory action. It uses the stage as place for inquiry about one’s own values and views. Personal Narrative is when the the performer uses a personal essay to tell a story. This way the performer knows the story well and can tell it in an interesting and entertaining manner. Although these forms of performance are all interesting and fun, I would prefer to perform a personal narrative. I prefer personal narrative because I would be familiar with the story and could portray it in the best way possible to the audience so they can get the most out of watching my performance. Also, by doing a personal narrative it would be easier for me to tell the story and take away...

Compare & Contrast

...merely just a common misconception though, there are several different styles of essays and the two that are going to be discussed are descriptive and narrative essays. The narrative essay's main purpose is to tell a story using characters and a plot, where perhaps a problem is given, and the events that unfold eventually explain a solution to the problem or issue presented. In contrast the descriptive essay can be very powerful in the fact it is written using the five senses (visual, audible, taste, tactile sensations and smells) this allows the author to bring a scene or object to life in the mind of the reader. While narrative essays are almost like a movie that is played out in the judgment of the reader, the descriptive essay paints a vivid photograph or place the reader can experience and this is why descriptive essays are the superior of the two styles. One of the best qualities that narrative essays are able to offer over descriptive essays is they are structured to appeal to the simplest of mankind's urge to share a good story. There are various forms in which we can find a narrative writing example such as a poem, play, novel and the obvious essay. There are times when the purpose behind a narrative essay is to simply hold the reader, providing an escape from the everyday stresses of work, and then there are times when it is the author's intention to share a valuable lesson learned that might help others understanding of a topic they haven't fully based an opinion...

Which Essay Is Better: a Narrative or a Descriptive?

...Which Essay is Better: A Narrative or A Descriptive?   Ever read a story and say to yourself, “What’s happening?” Whenever I read a descriptive essay, that’s what I would say. In this essay I would be comparing and contrasting two types of essays, a narrative and descriptive. I have chosen “Are the rich happy?” by Stephen Leacock 1916 and “Sister Flowers” by Maya Angelou, n.d. By writing my essay, I want to give my views on each and decide which I would rather write. Narrative Essay A narrative essay reflects a personal opinion that is based on your own experiences. This helps you bring a reader into your very own mind and shows him/her the topic you’re writing about through your eyes. Telling a story or event the way it happened for you. It also could provide a sort of lesson or moral to be learned from the outcome of the story as well as what the writer did that contributed to it or not. It’s more on a personal level that any one reading could say that happened to them or that they learned from the story by not doing whatever it was that the writer did. In Stephen Leacock’s “Are the Rich Happy?” the author writes about his experiences with his friends, with of modest income. Most of it, all in his opinion, points out the problems or troubles those with an existential amount of funds in their bank accounts. He goes on to give some examples that he encountered several of his friends going through. “A friend of mine who has ten thousand dollars a year told me the other...

Capesize Vessel Buying Decision

... The business schools want you to use a certain format when writing your resume. Don't write a "narrative" resume. That is, don't try to explain your background in the form of a story. Instead, use "bullet items" to explain your accomplishments. I actually like the narrative format better when it's done well. It gives applicants a chance to tell their story in a conversational manner. The problem is that the narrative resume is rarely done well (because most people aren't particularly good writers). So it's best to play the game and use the bullet format that business schools are looking for. The Order in Which You Want to Address Your Personal History Don't start your resume with your educational information. Doing so makes you look like a recent college grad who lacks significant work experience. The schools want worker bees, not college students. Start your resume with work, then included community involvement and activities, and finally address your education. You also want to make it easy for the admissions people to find the information they're looking for. That includes the firms you've worked for, the amount of time you spent in each of your jobs, and your accomplishments in each position. Try structuring your resume in the following order. (1) Your Name and Address What can I tell you? Write your name and address at the top of the page. It's becoming increasingly common for schools to notify accepted applicants by e-mail,...

...Maninder Singh Prof. Cushner AMS-1A S21 02/05/2015 Journey of Mrs. Rowlandson in captivity by Indians (1675) In the narrative “A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson,” Mary Rowlandson discusses how her personal life was like in captivity in 1682. Rowlandson wrote this after the attack in Lancaster, Massachusetts when she was held prisoner by Native Americans during King Philip War for 11 weeks in early 1675. Her narrative consists of repeating words such as “food” and “remove” to indicate how it all lead to Rowlandson’s depression and anger. Throughout Rowlandson’s journey with Native Americans, she observes her understanding regarding God and the bible. She also connects her capture to religious purposes that...

How Balance Work and Life

...family, and community. They've discovered through hard experience that prospering in the senior ranks is a matter of carefully combining work and home so as not to lose themselves, their loved ones, or their foothold on success. Those who do this most effectively involve their families in work decisions and activities. They also vigilantly manage their own human capital, endeavoring to give both work and home their due over a period of years, not weeks or days. That's how the 21st century business leaders in our research said they reconcile their professional and personal lives. In this article we draw on five years’ worth of interviews with almost 4,000 executives worldwide, conducted by students at Harvard Business School, and a survey of 82 executives in an HBS leadership course. Deliberate choices don't guarantee complete control. Life sometimes takes over, whether it's a parent's dementia or a teenager's car accident. But many of the executives we've studied men and women alike have sustained their momentum during such challenges while staying connected to their families. Their stories and advice reflect five main themes: defining success for yourself, managing technology, building support networks at work and at home, traveling or relocating selectively, and collaborating with your partner. Defining Success for Yourself When you are leading a major project, you determine early on what a win should look like. The same principle applies...

...into the idea of allowing for time and space between drafts, but she does discuss how much better her work is when she can approach it as an outsider (Toor, 2012). Take a look at the Narrative essay you submitted in week four. Read through it and find a few things you could have done better. In at least 150 words, discuss those changes. While you can mention it, try to look deeper than any formatting or grammar issues you may have had. Look at the way you organized your essay, how you tied everything together, even at your word choice. Could you have benefitted from writing your essay in multiple drafts? About my narrative essay, it could have been a lot smoother and easier if I had my original story. For a month I have been dealing with a failed hard drive and 2 more failed ones that I have been sent to find out it’s my power supply hahaha. Anyway I liked revisiting my past because it made me really happy to write about it and be descripted with the event as a whole. I could have it a bit more organize it just happened a more than 10 years ago. I could have done better if I wrote two drafts instead of one; I’m taking my time with my persuasive essay so it will be better than this one. Also rushing the essay instead of being able to take my time was an issue also. Writing about an older event is kind of hard because things get fuzzy after years of not thinking about the event that happen. Once you start thinking about it comes in a flood and it’s sometimes hard to organize it...
