Elvis Mendoza

Joint Application Development or JAD is a technique that is used to help IT developers build systems and it was developed in the 1970s by IBM. JAD forms a team of members of different backgrounds and are made up of end users, managements, and IT staff. The team discusses the project in workshops or sessions, which are used to define the project and to design a solution. Included in the team are users of the actual system, making the system analyst to have a better picture of what the clients want or expect in a new system. There are different things to consider when working in a JAD. The first thing is that the best people that understand the functions are the people that perform those duties. The second is that it people understand the behind the scenes workings of the system and can answer questions on those topics. The third idea is the difference between business professionals and IT professionals. The fourth idea is to make everybody in the group equal by granting partnership for everybody in the project. The participants of a JAD project include the Sponsor, which is the executive of the organization chartering the project. Business users are the upper management and the end users of the system. The next group is IT professionals, which usually are the IT staff or outside consultants. Lastly is the record keeper, which is the person who documents everything that happens in the workshop or sessions. The benefits or advantages of JAD is that it saves time and run a lot smoother and deliver a better solution with less effort. JAD saves money by having fewer changes during development, leading to a more robust and reliable solution at lower cost. JAD also has the ability of recognizing early high risk projects and brings experts together to share their views and

...different application methodologies. Since the company does not want to remain with SDLC, I am required to recommend either Joint Application Development (JAD) or Rapid Application Development (RAD). Therefore, I will provide information and allow the company president to make a decision based upon my research. JAD is a methodology that uses the design and development processes of an application. It is an information gathering technique used to design and develop computer-based systems. RAD is a shorter version of JAD; it reduces the time taken to develop an application (UMSL, 2014). The disadvantages of JAD are actually strengthening to a project; they just require a lot of accuracy. JAD require significant planning and scheduling to ensure the project is on task in correlation to the project plan. Furthermore, it involves much time and effort of stakeholders. For a successful project, JAD demands experienced and trained personnel (Directutor, 2010). On the contrary, the advantages of JAD are very relaxed and unrushed. It allows time for the gathering and reviewing large amounts of information. In result, high quality work may be produced. Discrepancies can be properly handled. Finally, team communication is increased. Overall, time is the number one advantage associated with JAD (Directutor, 2010). The disadvantages of RAD software development are that it should not be used for complex projects. Since it is a rapid development, teams must be motivated and determined to work...

...SLDC vs. JAD vs. RAD Methodologies of Software Development Kaplan University IT460 – System Analysis and Design From my reading I learned that Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) follows a pretty general process that is used by a lot of project managers. The whole purpose of SDLC is to create a better product than is planned for while meeting time and cost figures (Tutorials Point). the Chief Information Officer (CIO) asked to look at a couple of methodologies. The two methodologies are JAD (Joint Application Development) and RAD (Rapid Application Development). JAD (Joint Application Development) is a methodology where you use the client and end users at different points during the project (Rouse, 2007). By using this methodology some of the advantages are that in a short time frame you can gather and consolidate a big amount of information. Another benefit is that you can look at many points of view on the project and can resolve discrepancies in a timely manner (n.d.). Some disadvantages of JAD (Joint Application Development) it takes a lot of planning and scheduling and this will also require a lot of time from the stakeholders. Another disadvantage is that people that are working on the project have to be trained and experienced with what the project requires. RAD (Rapid Application Development) is a methodology that is focused on producing software quickly. This is done by using prototypes that have been established before and uses tools that are...

System Analysis

...IT 460 Unit 1 Kaplan University Harold Boyd The first thing I am going to talk about is JAD (Joint Application Development). Joint Application Development (JAD) is a development technique used to help IT developers build systems. This technique was developed by IBM in the 1970's. In this technique, a team is formed of members of different backgrounds. These members are made up of end-users, management, and IT staff. This team meets and discusses the current project in a number of workshops/sessions. These workshops are used to define the project and to design a solution. Since the team includes actual users of the current system, the system analyst will have a better picture of what the clients would want in a new system. There are four thoughts to consider when working in a JAD. First, the best people that understand the job functions are the people that perform those duties. Needless to say, these people are the best source of information when a question comes up about a particular process. On the other end, IT people understand the "behind the scenes" workings of the current system and can answer question on those topics. These two points introduce the third idea, which is the difference between business professionals and IT professionals. At times, business professionals do not understand subjects in the IT realm (i.e., they are "computer illiterate"). On the other side of the spectrum, IT professionals have issues understanding subject matter in the business realm (i...

...Requirements The manufacturing plant that the author works for would benefit from complete barcode capabilities as stated in the author’s previous paper. This paper will explain the processes that are needed in to find requirements for new software. What is needed is to find out what a system requirement is by asking questions within the organization. According to Wright, “a system requirement is a property that is essential for an IT system to perform its functions” (Wright, 2007). I will explain these requirements by looking at three areas within the organization. First there is a business requirement, user requirements, and lastly functional requirements. Business Requirements Business requirements are described as the objectives of the business. This answers the questions as to why the company is taking on the project. “The requirements grow out of the vision for the product. This vision is driven by goals and objectives of the company. This is a long-term view of what the product can accomplish for the users and the company” (Gottesdiener, 2008). For instance as stated earlier L-3 receiving area needs a barcode capability for one it will help the department stay on top of shipments that come into the area. Second, it will also allow less mistakes and higher accuracy for inventory. Third, it will increase the staff’s accessibility to other jobs within the department. Last, it will help the customer. These are just a few examples on how it will help the department...

System

...A prototype is a model or a program which is not based on strict planning, but is an early approximation of the final product or software system. This type of System Development Method is employed when it is very difficult to obtain exact requirements from the customer. While making the model, user keeps giving feedbacks from time to time and based on it, a prototype is made. Completely built sample model is shown to user and based on his feedback; the SRS (System Requirements Specifications) document is prepared. After completion of this, a more accurate SRS is prepared. 2. RAPID APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT: Rapid application development (RAD) is a software development methodology that uses minimal planning in favour of rapid prototyping. It is broader in scope as compared to prototyping. The "planning" of software developed using RAD is interleaved with writing the software itself. The lack of extensive...

Bsa Chapter 1 Questions/Solutions

...Chapter 1 Review Questions Solutions 1. What is information systems analysis and design? Information systems analysis and design is the process of developing and maintaining an information system. 2. What is systems thinking? How is it useful for thinking about computer-based information systems? Systems thinking involves identifying something as a system, visualizing the system and translating it into abstract terms, and thinking about the characteristics of the specific situation. Systems thinking is useful for thinking about computer-based information systems because information systems can be seen as subsystems in larger organizational systems, taking input from, and returning output to, their organizational environments. 3. What is decomposition? Coupling? Cohesion? Decomposition is the process of breaking down a system into its component parts. Coupling is the extent to which subsystems are dependent on each other. Cohesion is the extent to which a system or a subsystem performs a single function. 4. In what way are organizations systems? Organizations are systems because they are made up of interrelated components working together for a purpose. They take input from and return output to their environments. Organizations can be redesigned through a systems analysis and design process by which system components are replaced while preserving interconnections between components. 5. List and explain the different phases in the systems development...

...Application Development (RAD) and Component Based Development and Web Services. These approaches can be used for keeping technology current within an organization. In the digital firm environment, organizations need to be able to add, change, and retire their technology capabilities very rapidly to respond to new opportunities. (Laudon & Laudon, 2011). The first approach for system building in the digital firm era is Rapid Application Development (RAD). The term rapid application development (RAD) is used to describe this process of creating workable systems in a very short period of time. (Laudon & Laudon, 2011). RAD can include the use of visual programming and other tools for building graphical user interfaces, iterative prototyping of key system elements, the automation of program code generation, and close teamwork among end users and information systems specialists. (Laudon & Laudon, 2011). By using rapid application development you are trying to input all the information into the system as fast and efficiently as you can. You can also promote the accuracy of the program. Because rapid application development stresses speed, quality indicators such as consistency, standardization, reusability, and reliability are easily overlooked. (Rapid application development (RAD), n.d.). This is because they are just throwing the product together to get it out the door and into the consumers awaiting hands. There are some primary objectives the RAD system uses. The...

Business

...Dwayne Hudson Herzing University Business today are often required to build e-commerce and e-business application very rapidly to remain competitive. New system is likely to have more interorganizational requirements and processes than in the past. This is not restricted to developing and implementing the technology, it is about changing the technology so rapidly to keep the pace with the society and the technological changes in the society. This is the only key to remain competitive in the present world. There are many approaches that are being used for building the system. Some of them are as follows: Rapid application design (RAD) Joint application design (JAD) Companies are turning to rapid application design joint application design (JAD) and reusable software components to improve the systems development process. Rapid application development (RAD) uses object, oriented software, visual programming prototyping and fourth generation tools for very rapid creation of system components based development expedites application development by grouping objects into suites of software components that can be combined to create large scale business application. It is a methodology for the software development that uses the minimal planning for the creation of prototypes and the software systems. Planning phase in this model is interleaved with the software writing phase and hence the integrity is maintained. This makes the complete process faster and the requirements can be changed...
