Both in the notes from her trial and in the film we see folklore and ideas about the supernatural come into play. The supernatural is a common element throughout the stories of her life and the beliefs of the time in which she lived. In her trial notes, Joan is asked a number of questions about the supernatural (Champion, 1932). Those who accused Joan wanted her to be condemned as a witch and false prophet.
