...and was drawn to one sentence: “Jesus was a man and as such could not also be God.” Seeing the puzzled look on my face, one of the men asked me what I thought about the claim. The Biblical basis for Jesus humanity can be illustrated in scripture. John 1:14 states: “So the Word became human and lived here on earth among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory of the only Son of the Father.” When Jesus was born, God became a man. He was not part man and part God, he was completely human and completely divine. Jesus Christ is the perfect expression of God in human form. Another important doctrine of Christianity is that of Jesus deity. In John 10:30 it reads: “The Father and I are one.” This is the clearest statement of Jesus divinity he ever made. Jesus and his father is not the same person but are triune in the nature of the Godhead. On page 158, Towns explains that, “The Biblical basis for Jesus deity is His pre-existence and eternity. Jesus has always existed as stated, John 8:58: “Jesus answered, “The truth is, I existed before Abraham was even born!” This is one of the most powerful statements uttered by Jesus. When he said that he existed before Abraham was born he undeniably proclaimed his divinity. In addition, the Bible teaches that Jesus is both God and man at the same time, (Hypostatic Union). The Bible supports that Jesus is God by showing all the attributes of God. Matthew 18:20 reveals Jesus is everywhere. “For where two or...

...Divinity and Mortality of Jesus One of the important ideas introduced during the course was one that described the divine characteristics of God. Specifically, at least In Christianity, God is noted to have three aspects: omnipotence, omniscience, and omnibenevolence. By having each of those, God is viewed as an all-powerful, all knowing, and all good being. What I want to focus on is God’s son, Jesus. The doctrine in Christianity known as the trinity describes God as being one with Jesus, as well as the Holy Spirit. This union means that Jesus must be a divine being – Jesus is God. Clearly, however, Jesus is also depicted and described as one who is human as well. How can Jesus be both God and a man? How is it that Jesus is seen as having the divine characteristics that are fitting of God, yet has all the characteristics of a mortal? These are the questions I want to focus on and hopefully make some sense out of. Christian theology employs the idea of the Hypostatic union between God and Jesus which means that Christ is in fact one person with two fully complete natures. Jesus is completely human and completely God at the same time. There is no dilution or separation of these qualities. Jesus is simply both with the two distinct natures existing concurrently. However, I find issue with this idea. Is it not contradictory? Jesus obviously takes on the form of a mortal man as evidenced by certain passages in the scriptures. Luke 2:52 says “And Jesus grew in in wisdom and stature...

...Oeste Is Jesus really just a copy of pagan myths? Andres D. Laboy Bible Class September 2, 2015 Introduction A lot of people criticize the Bible, Jesus and Christians, they speak blasphemies and every one of those people are wrong. I’ll be here saying what I think of the video, I’ll do it because it’s sad that they don’t accept the truth and look for other things. They twist things around. Body So is Jesus really just a copy of pagan Myths? No, of course not, Jesus is the real thing. There is history, there is proof that he existed. Pagan myths are myths for a reason. Myths aren’t real. People relate Jesus with pagan myths because they are similar but they aren’t accurate, they are not real. Like one of the pagan gods that people relate to Jesus is Krishna. The myth goes that Krishna was born of a virgin, but her parents had children before her and so the myth goes on. These myths just contradict themselves and different cultures have different views of them. Not like Jesus, Jesus is seen like himself, like a true person. Another pagan god that is similarised with Jesus is Horus. Saying that Horus has the same story, that he was born from a virgin and was baptized. That he became savior of humanity. Horus story maybe similar to Jesus but, its just not real; again myths are myths for as reason. There isn’t any proof he actually existed, there isn’t any actual evidence, but Jesus does. Historians see Jesus like a person of...

...doctrinal system educated by an individual leader, group of leaders, or organization, which denies one or more of the central doctrines of the Christian faith as taught in the sixty-six books of the Bible. Christianity developed out of Judaism as the promised Messiah came to earth. The Christian religion is founded on Jesus Christ who walked the earth as the Son of God. Within the religion there is what the church refers to as the sacraments to the believer. The sacraments are defined as outer and noticeable signs of inner and spiritual grace. They contained baptism, Holy Communion, penance, confirmation, anointing of the sick and lying of hands, Christian marriage, and ordination, Christians are projected and intellected according to the existence of the sacraments in his life. Christianity was founded by Jesus Christ, considered the Son of God by all majorities of Christian denominations. Christians can map out their origin date, within a year or so, to the crucifixion of Jesus and his successive resurrection in about the year 33 AD. Even as Christianity grew commencing Judaism, it is (and was from its very first day) a divided and distinctive faith practice. While Jesus founded only one Church, the centuries have seen schisms that resulted in separate sects, such as the Eastern Orthodox Church in the 5th or 6th century, as well as the founding of the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century, led by previous Roman Catholic, Martin Luther. On the other hand, all Christian churches...

...Historical Jesus INTRODUCTION Over the centuries scholars from around the world have written a lot about religion, its meaning, relevance and contribution to humanity. There have been many speculations upon the nature and historical background of Jesus Christ. Many scholars have tried to dig into the few clues as to His identity and come up with a human side to which we can all relate. The study of Christianity and how it relates to Jesus Christ is very important to the whole world. Concerning the issue of Christianity, for example, the majority of people are taught in most schools and churches that Jesus Christ was an actual historical figure and that the only controversy regarding him is that some people accept him as the Son of God and the Messiah, while others do not. While the historicity of Jesus is the most debated subject in the field of religion today, the most enduring and profound controversy in this subject is whether or not Jesus Christ really existed. This paper will discuss who Jesus is, the controversy and biblical sources based on the views of scholars surrounding the historicity of Jesus. Finally, this paper will give Biblical evidence that Jesus existed. WHO IS JESUS? It is generally accepted that Jesus was truly a man who walked the earth 2000 years ago. Almost every religion teaches that Jesus was a prophet, excellent teacher or a Godly man. The Bible tells us, “I and the Father are one.” This indicates that Jesus was...

Virtually all scholars of antiquity agree that Jesus existed.[11][12][13][14][15][16] Most scholars hold that Jesus was a Jewish teacher from Galilee in Roman Judaea, was baptized by John the Baptist, and was crucified in Jerusalem on the orders of the Roman Prefect, Pontius Pilate.[8][17][14] Scholars have offered competing descriptions and portraits of Jesus, which at times share a number of overlapping attributes, such as a rabbi, a charismatic healer, the leader of an apocalyptic movement, Messiah, a sage and philosopher, or a social reformer who preached of the "Kingdom of God" as a means for personal and egalitarian social transformation.[18][19][20][21] Scholars have correlated the New Testament accounts with non-Christian historical records to arrive at an estimated chronology of Jesus' life.[3][5][22][23] Christians hold Jesus to be the awaited Messiah of the Old Testament and refer to him as Jesus Christ or simply as Christ,[24][25] a name that is also used secularly. Christians believe that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, performed miracles, founded the Church, died sacrificially by crucifixion to achieve atonement, rose from the dead, and ascended into...

...the insipid certainty of rationalism in the pursuit of salvation and portrays the moment of grace as an encounter with holiness and as a moment of epiphany and physical and emotional violence as an essential part of one’s transformation and growth. Hazel Motes is usually deprived economically, emotionally, or both and is dwell in a world which, in Flannery O’ Connor’s words, “the good is under construction”. Hazel is someone who dares to dream but shows no remorse towards the faith and belief that other people may have upon Jesus. Nobody seems to be impressed by the power of his words when Hazel Motes says, “Do you think I believe in Jesus?”… “Well I wouldn’t even if he existed, Even if he was on this train” (7). Hazel speaks to Mrs. Hitchcock in the train letting her know, he would never want to be redeemed; “If you’ve been redeemed, then I wouldn’t want to be” (7). His ignorant and stubbornly attitude is always against Jesus that even if he existed and had him in front of him, he still would refuse to believe. His ignorant attitude is always against god, but ironically shows remorse with the hope he might receive some kind of sign as he walks with stones in his shoes. Early in the story when Haze first arrives in Taulkinham he encounters a traffic patrolman who admonishes him for being ignorant of the meaning of red and green crossing light, “Red is to stop, green is to go- men and women, white folks and niggers, all go on...

...T he concept of the ‘secret teachings of Jesus’ supposedly generates apprehension for various Christians; for a number of folks think the possibility is generally all folly and ‘made-up,’ and feel this terminology provokes negativity. So I felt the following information was a notable case in point; which relates the likelihood of such teachings; furthermore, why the majority of Jesus’ mystical teachings ‘could not’ exist openly. Powerfully, this letter provided gives a window to peer through to understand the time, and apparent problems the early Christians had with some misinterpretations of early text and the apparent fear and cover-up that took place. In 1958, Professor Morton Smith claims to have found a secret gospel of Mark that gives us another example of a ‘sexual tone’ concerning Jesus. It is the subject of the Mar Saba letter, a previously unknown fragment of a second-century document, and claims to be written by Clement of Alexandria. Credibly, Clement endured as one of the earliest and most mysterious of the Fathers of the Church, a...

...The Life of Jesus Christ The story of Jesus begins even before he was born. We may think how can this be, but it’s true and John the fisherman, a disciple of Jesus, puts it this way: ‘In the very beginning, before anything else existed, the Word (Jesus) existed. The Word was with God and the Word was God.’ Mankind had forgotten the existence of God completely and had sinned beyond pardoning. Therefore, God sent His son Jesus Christ into the world to remind us that there is God, to set aside those from doing errant and give eternal life to whosoever believed in Him. The Bible says, ``If you keep on sinning, it shows that you belong to Satan … But the Son of God (Jesus) came to destroy these works of the devil. The person who has been born into God`s family does not make a practice of sinning, because now God`s life is in him``(1 John 3:8-9). Christ Jesus came into the world to save us from bondage and Satan. God chose the right time for Jesus to come God prearranged that the time was right for His Son (Jesus) to come into the world. It was the right time in the world and was also the right time in God`s great plan. From the beginning of the world, God had prepared for this. This should both surprise and impress us, because God showed his love for men. Galatians 4:4, 5 tell that, “But when the right time finally came, God sent His own Son. He came as the son of a human mother and lived under the Jewish Law, to redeem those who were under the Law, so that...

Along with that other areas will also include the way people worship, practice, and different sectors of this religion. We will also discuss the birth and death of Jesus Christ and how his death affected this religion dramatically and why this religion continues grow till this day. Also discussed Christianity alongside Islam and compare and contrast the different between these religions and practices. Jesus born more than 2000 years ago in Israel as many believe him to be the form of god sent to earth as a human being in place for the sins man committed Jesus himself was no different than typical Israeli a working man that work as a carpenter in the town of Nazareth. When Jesus entered his thirties he began to spread his teachings and founded what we know today as Christianity. He toured northern Israel though never recorded traveling more than 200 miles from home Jesus drew followers worldwide he recorded unexplained miracles and teachings of love and strict moral principles in which he was able to accomplish publically for 3 years. With these miracles Jesus began to draw attention from Jewish leaders of this time although never convicted of any crime though being on trial many times. His crucifixion was ordered by corrupt officials for the crime of blasphemy or claiming to be god. This was viewed as a crucifixion of an innocent man as Jesus had not been convicted of any crime...

...In John 1:1-3, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" shows that Jesus has two distinct natures, He is not half man and half God, no, He is fully divine and fully man. All things were made through Him. Jesus is the "Word", the Son of the Father who became flesh and lived among us . He was with God, and yet He is divine- that He was God. In other passages, Jesus’ actions reveal His identity as divine. He heals a paralytic in the Gospel of Mark, and brings the dead to life- Lazarus- in the Gospel of John and through both of these acts He demonstrates His authority and His forgiveness. Paul refers to the divinity of Christ in Titus, " our great God and Savior Jesus Christ" (2:13 NKJV) and also in Philippians...

...One of the things that can prove that you existed in the first place is death for all lives are bound to die. Time is inevitable and each second that passes by is one step closer to death. Just the same, every moment we live is the reality and every moment that passes by becomes part of the forgettable past. We do not own time but on the contrary, time owns us. Schopenhauer would argue that life is pointless, a meaningless journey with one final end which is to cease to exist. What would then be the ultimate purpose of life if we will all die in the end? Everything that we invested will be gone and everything we have built will be worthless? I would like to argue that it is not necessarily the end that matters the most but the journey. Dying in the end should not mean that we have to live our lives miserably. I believe that death and factitious freedom are deeply intertwined with the thesis question "Why did Jesus die on the cross?" In this paper, we carefully examine not just the father-son relationship between Jesus and God but Jesus as both God-Man through the hypostatic union (As given in the thesis question) , its relationship to people and the very purpose of His and generally an individual's death vis-a-vis human freedom. It is very difficult to try to elaborate this issue that has been going on for years without being theological. There is a gap between theology and philosophy in such a way that theology's main ingredients are faith and belief and philosophy is sheer...

...Testament would be totally adequate to prove Jesus was a real person in history. The evidence presented in the New Testament was written by contemporaries of Jesus, four were eyewitnesses, three accompanied Jesus, and all the writings are in remarkable agreement. They stand the tests of genuineness and historicity. Consider this: One may present a case for Jesus by presenting just one of the Gospels, let’s say the book written by Luke to Theophilus. Luke states, 1Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, 2just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. 3Therefore, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus.” That, in itself, is evidence. Then when adding the other gospels our case becomes stronger because we have ‘corroborating evidence.’ ***Corroborating Evidence is evidence that supports, confirms, strengthens or adds to already existing evidence.*** Then, take the NT letters that were written by Paul, Peter, James, & John and you have even more compelling, corroborating evidence. The NT alone is sufficient proof of Jesus’ historical existence. We all know that Christianity is not the worship of the man Jesus. Our faith is in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. If Jesus never existed then it is safe to say, Christianity would cease...

...who is "Jesus Christ". In order to understand who Jesus were, lets look at his life according to the bible. Jesus Christ according to the several authors who wrote the 27 "books" of the New Testament, Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Savior of the World, and the long awaited Jewish Messiah. He was born in the town of Bethlehem to a woman named Mary. His father was a carpenter named Joseph. Little is known of His childhood except that His family lived in Egypt for a short time before returning to Israel and settling in a town called Nazareth. In the Gospel of Luke, chapter two, gives an account of his visit to Jerusalem when He was twelve. At the age of thirty, Jesus Christ began His ministry of preaching the good-news of the Kingdom of God, or the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus grew up to be a man, teaching[->0] throughout Palestine and performing numerous miracles[->1] to validate His claims. John the Baptist was baptizing people for repentance in the river Jordan at this time and Jesus Christ submitted Himself to John to be baptized also. Baptism was a ritual that symbolized spiritual cleansing. After His baptism, Jesus spent forty days fasting in the wilderness where He was tempted to sin by the Devil, aka Satan. From there He returned to Galilee and began to teach people concerning the Law of Moses, and how these related to entering the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus accepted twelve students, or disciples, to learn the truth about God word. Jesus also performed...
