Analyzing a Job in Preparation for a Job Posting

...Analyzing a Job in Preparation for a Job Posting HRM/531 February 3, 2013 Analyzing a Job in Preparation for a Job Posting According to Cascio [ (Cascio, 2010) ], the most common methods of analyzing a job are observation, interviews, job performance, critical incidents, and structured questionnaires. In most cases, it is necessary to use a mixture of methods because they may not be as effective un-aided. The use of an analysis helps to identify the competencies and pertinent skills required to meet the needs of a job position, and the ultimate goals of the organization or department within the organization. Job analysis aids in skill set determination, selection practices, provides appropriate classification or reclassification of positions, and sets standards for performance appraisals. In this paper I will describe the interview process using a job analysis. My job analysis is very close to the job descriptions posted on various websites that host open jobs for the hair industry. The duties that I perform as a salon owner are similar to those for jobs in my field. For example, a duty that is listed to perform the job that I do is the ability to provide exceptional customer service. If I were interviewing a candidate for the job as a stylist I would ask for examples of what the applicant thinks exceptional customer service is. I researched three hair salons; Super Cuts, Hair Cuttery, and Great Clips. Duty Details The ability to provide exceptional customer service...

Zappos Killed the Job Posting – Should You?

...originated the “pay employees to quit” policy adopted by Amazon.com. And now, Zappos will abandon job postings, according to Stacy Donovan Zapar, Zappos’ Social Recruiting and Employer Branding Strategist. The “abandon job postings” policy recalls an earlier era — as Zapar says, “It’s old-school recruiting, made new and fresh again.” So does this mean you should abandon job postings too? The correct answer is “it depends.” Shiny new HR practices should motivate savvy conversations, not just imitation. In this case, organization leaders should demand a conversation about talent sourcing as sophisticated as one about their supply chain. An important piece of context is that Zappos has long used social channels to describe their culture, people, and events. Now, they have added the Zappos Insider program, which Zapar describes as a place “where people can sign up, stay in touch, talk to real people with real names and real faces, get to know us and allow us to get to know them. Our Insiders are people who might like to work for Zappos someday … today, tomorrow or at some point in the future.” It’s an old-school idea common to technology companies as far back as the 1980’s, akin to “we know more about the engineers that work for our competitors than they do.” Another context element is that this policy applies to call centers, which employ a large number of people doing jobs that are similar, easily described, and familiar to most applicants. These are pivotal roles with...

...Sanika Ostalaza English 12th 2nd p.d Dec.19 2012 Topic: Posting on Facebook Thesis Statement: Posting personal information about some on Facebook or any other media sites can affect your future job, lack of respect, and possible termination from current job. Many people express themselves on Facebook. A lot of college students have Facebook pages that can affect their future job and friends. Sometimes people do not think before they write. When someone posts an ugly comment about someone else, it escalates on Facebook and maybe to where you are known. There are times that people will post nasty videos on their wall so others can view. For example I have a Facebook page and someone post up a video of a High School girl doing something that she is not supposed to be doing on tape. Well, I did not recognize the person but someone else did and now everybody knows that it was her. The High School girl was treated like garbage, students call her bad names, and she got teased. That same High School girl know that she as being video tape but she did not know that she was staring on Facebook for everyone to see. Posting personal information about you or someone on Facebook or any other media sites can affect your future job, lack of respect from others, and possible termination from current job. One thing that I would not post on my Facebook page is a rude comment about someone else. When I see others posting rude comments about others, I personally feel that person is trying to...

My student’s husband then called the next day and spoke with my co-worker, Michael, who took all of his information and enrolled him. I received a phone call from my student the next asking why I had told her one thing and Michael had told her husband another. With Michael being new to the job, I thought he made a simple mistake, so I called and left him a voicemail suggesting that we talk about the students to make sure that we were on the same page in what we were telling our students. I then wrote my supervisor an email telling him what I did and said. Michael, upon hearing the message, went to his supervisor because he had the impression that I was trying to take his student from him. His supervisor went to mine asking what was going on. My supervisor explained everything and the matter was resolved. As a result, both the students did not complete the enrollment process or start school. Is Managing Role Ambiguity the Number One Challenge Facing Employers in the Silicon Age?

...director. The participant group was asked to self-report on perceptions of role ambiguity, experienced levels of anger, anxiety and workplace threat appraisal. In this study, participants were asked questions as to whether they fully understood what was expected of them at work on a day-to-day basis regarding particular tasks, or a range of tasks. This data was then compared with responses to questions which probed whether they had felt anxious or angry at work. Threat appraisal was determined by whether the respondent felt it was more or less likely that their work day was going to be a negative experience for them.
