...PART I: Did CARDWARE have genuine Bona Fide Occupational Job Qualifications) in its ad? Title VII of the 1964 Civil Right Act addresses the Bona Fide Occupational Qualifications (BFOQ) that can be used in legal employment discriminations. BFOQs are employment qualifications that employers are allowed to take into consideration while making employment decisions about hiring and retention of employees that falls under the “protected groups of people.” These groups that Title VII protects are race, religion, national origin, age, gender, or disability. (Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, n.d.) To be legal in discriminating against any protected group, it must relate to an essential job duty and is considered necessary for the operation of the particular business. The Act applies to employers that employ fifteen or more employees. (Fundamentals of Business Law, 2013, p. 431) Also, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of age against individuals forty years of age and older. For the Act to apply the employer must employ more than twenty individuals. (Fundamentals of Business Law, 2013, p. 429) In this case of CARDWARE Inc., the business does not have a qualifying BFOQ and cannot discriminate against any one of the protected groups. Because CARDWARE has ten stores and employs three employees in each store, that means the business employs at least thirty employees and cannot discriminate on anyone aged over...

...Unit 1 & 38 – Task 4 To: Neeta Mistry From: Zarafsha Hussain Re: The Global Environment Date: 11/01/16 Political Factors: Enhancing skills of the working population This political factor is used to increase the skills of the working population and also for young adults whom are preparing and adapting for the world of work. The government create the education plan. This includes vocational qualifications, a levels, apprenticeships, NVQ’s and training courses. ASDA and the NHS The government’s choices on education and training has a very big impact on the ways that ASDA and the NHS operate and the level of skills in their businesses. This is to ensure that employees are being trained for new employment in areas that will help the economy. This political factor dictates the type of qualifications that are studied and which qualifications money is invested in. It also supports different types of training such as literacy and numeracy skills that can help train employees that are already working within ASDA and NHS. An important training course that the government regularly provide for free is first aid and health and safety. This impacts ASDA and NHS as this is a key skill for many employees to be educated on when working in modern careers and roles. This will impact on both government and employees within ASDA’s and NHS’s stakeholders. The government will need to fund for any new and updated training within the employees of these two organisations. This means a leakage...

...Teacher: Minh Nhut Tran High-scoring IELTS writing http://www.facebook.com/HighScoringIeltsWriting TOPIC: These days it is neither possible nor desirable for most people to stay in the same job throughout their working life. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? My model answer It is said that labor is glorious. In fact, everybody is in desperate need of having a fulfilling job to financially support themselves and their families. In the past , it was quite prominent for the majority of workers to do the identical job from the time they graduated from their school until they drew their pension, but that has become rare in the bustling life nowadays. First and foremost, most citizens commute their current job with the nurture of achieving further accomplishment in the future. There is a general consensus that a wide range of newly graduates entering on the workforce may have some formidable obstacles to finding a well-paid occupation on the grounds that they accumulate a dearth of practical experience. As a result, on acquiring sufficient qualifications and receiving a higher financial incentive, they may jump into another career in search of getting highly promoted. Secondly, it is crucial for almost employees to alter their job so as to avoid an adverse working conditions and a high pressure working environment. Actually, there is widespread popularity of sexual harassment in office, which may lead to workers’ physical and mental deterioration....

...pursue, and they are happy to spend the rest of their lives in the same profession. While I accept that this may suit many people, I believe that others enjoy changing careers or seeking job satisfaction in different ways. On the one hand, having a defined career path can certainly lead to a satisfying working life. Many people decide as young children what they want to do as adults, and it gives them a great sense of satisfaction to work towards their goals and gradually achieve them. For example, many children dream of becoming doctors, but to realise this ambition they need to gain the relevant qualifications and undertake years of training. In my experience, very few people who have qualified as doctors choose to change career because they find their work so rewarding, and because they have invested so much time and effort to reach their goal. On the other hand, people find happiness in their working lives in different ways. Firstly, not everyone dreams of doing a particular job, and it can be equally rewarding to try a variety of professions; starting out on a completely new career path can be a reinvigorating experience. Secondly, some people see their jobs as simply a means of earning money, and they are happy if their salary is high enough to allow them to enjoy life outside work. Finally, job satisfaction is often the result of working conditions, rather than the career itself. For example, a positive working atmosphere, enthusiastic colleagues, and an inspirational boss can...

...situation before giving any advice. The first scenario involves an employer giving complicated directions for a task that the person must do. When I read the first complaint I could imagine the person complaining about their job being too hard. Before I could effectively assist this person, I would need to know more details and facts surrounding the asker relationship with the job as well as how he or she feels about being employed there. The second scenario involved emotions because my friend stormed in the room clearly furious over something that happened to her while she was at school that day. Since she’s already angry, I wouldn’t want to exacerbate the situation so I’d listen more and speak less by using the Prompting responses to get her to talk about her situation until she finds a solution. I’d use silences and brief encouragements to draw her out of that negative place into a positive one. The third scenario says my brother comes to me about a job offer he’s trying to decide about accepting. I would never tell him to take the job, but I will give him Supporting responses to make him weigh his decision carefully. I would tell my brother how I view him as a worker. I’d magnify his strengths and compare them to the qualifications for the job. I’d show care, concern and interest especially if making this decision seems to be a stressful one. Lastly, the person with whom I want to strengthen my relationship with is my cousin. Using the interpersonal attraction variables...

...What have you accomplished at work and life? Start taking note of it. There is an ancient Indian saying “य: क्रियावान् स पण्डितः” – one who is industrious is the knowledgeable one. It does not matter what qualifications you have, what certifications you have completed. What matters is what you have done with it and can do with it. You may claim 100 things in your resume but what people care to know about are your accomplishments. You are paid to produce results, and what results have you produced in the past is a good indicator of what you can potentially produce. If you cannot show that you can produce results you have no place in the workplace. So, in whatever capacity you are working in begin to measure your results and outcomes, and start documenting your accomplishments. Most people assume that accomplishments need to be large. No. Very rarely do people have significant accomplishments, but there are many milestones (and occasional breakthroughs) that happen in one’s work life. So, ask yourself these simple questions: 1) What have I accomplished (done) in the past 2 years that made a difference in the workplace? Have I received recognition or promotion or appreciations from colleagues, customers, managers or others? 2) Have I done anything outside my job description? 3) Am I replaceable? Why not? What unique value do I bring to the workplace? Why should the company continue to pay me? 4) What are top three areas that I have improved significantly in the...

...Different people have different opinions in the workplace values for their work position. Finding a job which emphasizes on the same values as the potential employee is an ideal situation. But first everyone should have a list of workplace values with rankings before comparing them to what a work position can offer. Next I am going to talk about the top four workplace values of mine and why they are important to me. When I look for a job, the first thing I look for in the job description is whether I am competent to the tasks and what qualifications I might need further development on. If I could only find myself qualified for half of the tasks, very likely I would not look any further on the opportunity. I consider competence the very top value in my list for a work position, because I am a person who is easy to become stressed if I feel I do not have the knowledge or skill to solve the problem on my plate. Many may find ways to handle this type of situation very well, for example, they will do research on their own, ask their co-workers or supervisors, or undertake extra training. These are the same approach I usually take at the end, but being in the initial situation is the part that makes me uncomfortable. My desired environment is to be able to know exactly what need to be complete in detailed steps so that I could make good planning in the beginning. During the progress I can have a sense of where I am and whether I am in control of all bits of details. At the end of...
