The awake and sing play was a fun experience for me. The play portrayed the 1800s period and consisted of 9 main characters. The play was a about a small low income family who experienced daily problems and tried their best to cope with each situation, the daughter of one of the main characters named Hennie, had an unexpected pregnancy while seeking for love, and their son named Ralph, was eager to have his life start with an orphan girl while still regretting his childhood. Each character had their own problems which involved their family. Most plays I have been to throughout my life I didn’t enjoy, but this one I did. The whole experience was amazing, and I wouldn’t mind going to more plays at this theater. I liked the Awake and Sing! play because of the set, actors, and story line. As I walked into the theater I immediately noticed the unusual set, and could tell it was maybe around the late 1800s. All the house decorations fit that time period, the set consisted of an old fashion telephone, old time bed, record player and more. I really loved how beautiful the set looked, I also loved the style, which could be called vintage, and that is my favorite styles of clothing to wear. The arrangement of the set made it look like a real household, the crew that participated in creating the set succeeded in fitting the theme of that time. Each character utilized the set well to make it even more believable. As the play continued I could see the actors were very educated in their rolls, you could tell they took time and worked hard to remember everything because there was no stuttering or pausing from each character throughout the whole play. They spoke very clear, and loud enough for the audience to hear, even without using a wireless mic. Each character was outstanding. You could easily see they were very skilled and talented actors and I enjoyed watching them every second. Their expressions were clear to everyone, it was eclear when they were sad, mad, happy, excited and even confused. The acting was perfect and believable, I believed everything each character said. It was breath taking how vested these actors were and I was amazed at how well the performed. Another reason I liked the play was because of the story/plot. The story was very interesting and kept me entertained throughout the whole thing. Every second I was eager to know more and what would happen next. There were times I was filled with laughter and other times I also felt sad. My emotions were constantly changing as new situations popped up and I liked it because it was enjoyable. The play also had moments where I was mad at a character for being a certain way, that’s how into the play I was. The story kept you off your seat. I even developed questions because the story had me wondering as to, who did what and why did something happen the way it did. As the play ended I was happy because I hate sad endings but this one was a happy ending for almost everyone. Therefore, going to see Awake and Sing! Was fun and exciting. The set was amazing and was perfect for the time period. The actors were outstanding in their rolls and anyone could have believed they were those people in real life. The story of the play was entertaining and was clear to everyone. I would defiantly recommend this theater and play to anyone because it is a nice place to go with your family, and or friends.
